It is annoying, but I'm not sure what the answer is. One really hopes they will allow Tom to continue his mix of disciplines, but it goes against what Ineos normally do; however, reading between the lines, he will be allowed in the short term to continue his mixed career.
I wonder what's their output. The men's finish was pretty intense. Pure adrenaline rush.
It was interesting. My Instagram feed kicked off this morning with a chipper picture of Pauline with a quote about never giving up and trusting the process. Followed immediately by Kate saying she struggled, followed by Jolanda Neff slumped over her handlebars, covered in mud, lamenting that she couldn’t get over her sickness. It covered the spectrum of emotions in theee photos.
Wtf?
Cool to see him winning a race!
Mountain bike festivals don't have anywhere near the same caliber of competition, nor the same impact on rider's status and career implications.
Also, fyi MTB festivals used to regularly feature pretty decent fields of highly ranked XC racers.
"Pretty decent" isn't world class.
Cape Epic isn't World Cup.
World Cup is the highest level of racing with the highest stakes. This is why racing is spread out over several months instead of crammed into a few days.
I haven't heard any of the athletes complaining... They all seem pretty happy that they can finally race and they found a way to survive those 6 days.
Sure, it is not comparable to a normal season but it's better than nothing. And I am pretty sure both athletes and their sponsors would agree.
This "season's" winner is basically whoever is least burned out in 6 days riding the same track over and over again.
This is not an XC season, it's a cram course.
Also if you look at the results, pretty much same people did good in both races. Burning out had nothing to do with it. Some people just came with a better form and they managed to sell it. It sucks for people who did not have a good form as there is no time for adjustmens, but that is sport and that's how it is sometimes...
Not sure if by "seasons winner" you mean overall World Cup ranking. Because there will be no overall points given to anyone.
The same top riders in both XCO's doesn't mean that you would have similar results over 2-3 months, however. As I have stated, and as you have confirmed, this is not a true World Cup season, more like a one week exhibition where many riders did not even have the opportunity to race a single race prior to the "season's" start.
No one in their right mind thinks a week of riding constitutes a "season" in any meaningful sense.
Wrong.
Prevot, Neff and Richards CX, but only Richards recently.
Prevot road 5 years ago. Stigger in juniors.
Random strokes on your keyboard.
The world championship has a bit more legitimacy since riders have at least had some organized elite level racing coming into it.
Beggars can't be choosers.
