"1st. Thomas Pidcock" for the second time this week is equally fantastic and depressing in the knowledge, that next year he will be going to the most boring road team in the world, Ineos Grenadiers. Where interesting riders go to become drones. Don't do it Tom don't.

It is depressing. We’ve lost so many great mountain bikers to road racing over the years. I’m holding out hope that they might let him carry on with CX and MTB to fit in with marketing of the new Grenadier 4x4 they are promoting. Maybe that’s why they signed him.

@rsbromley: let's hope they take a leaf out of EF's book and do something more interesting with their riders.
  • 2 0
 @rsbromley:
It is annoying, but I'm not sure what the answer is. One really hopes they will allow Tom to continue his mix of disciplines, but it goes against what Ineos normally do; however, reading between the lines, he will be allowed in the short term to continue his mixed career.

@Starch-Anton: I guess the dream would be the UCI introducing some kind of all around rider prize. Best performance in CX, MTB and road. Either world champs positions or season points in each category.
  • 2 0
@rsbromley: all Ineos cares about is winning the Tour, so I highly doubt it.
  • 2 0
@rsbromley: no they have signed him because all the belgium teams have signed up the rest of the CX big hitters to act as engines. His interesting career is over (until he gets sacked for being a gobby shite towards Emperor Palpatine/Dave B)

Pidcock was a cyclocross racer first, a road racer second. he only started racing MTB's this year. Hard to fault him for heading to the road and the paycheck. Cross riders are getting no start money this year and are living off very small salaries, same for mtb racers that aren't from countries that have financial support for mtb racers as it's an Olympic sport. GB Cycling ONLY cares about track racing so there is NO money allocated to mountain biking which is really odd, Olympic gold is Olympic gold who cares what cycling discipline?
  • 2 0
@OnTheRivet: There's only two gold medals for mountain biking; there's 12 for track cycling. It's a better investment if all you're interested in is medals.
  • 3 0
@axcooper: @OnTheRivet: Much of the funding for national cycling bodies comes from allocations granted by each country's overarching funding agency. The politics at that funding level know that the public pays more attention to Olympic medals - preferably gold - than almost any other events within the typical 4 year funding cycling between each Olympic games. The powers that be know that their own positions depends on how well they fulfill that expectation. Loading athletes and resources into a track program in which creates a much higher likelihood of medal performances, as has already been noted with the much higher number of medals awarded, and also the fact that some of the track riders can aim for medals in more than one event. The folks running the funding show behind the scenes may be mercenaries looking to cover their own asses, but they aren't stupid. They understand how their bread gets buttered.

@OnTheRivet: I totally understand why he's gone to the road, it's a much better place to be to earn a living. It's sad from a british xc point of view that having any hope of winning/placing in the men's category will have to wait until some of the juniors are a bit older (if they stick with it) but my main point is why Ineos? They are the dullest team, almost any other road team he would be an exciting prospect but more than likely he will just be a worker bee that occasionally gets to fly, if he's lucky. Hopefully not but so much talent gets sucked up by Ineos (Skys) check book to do little but work for someone else, it's a bit depressing.

@cowsincars: To quote yourself: «it's a much better place to be to earn a living».
  • 1 0
@magnusc: oh I can see on a personal/ making a living point of view but from an outside/spectator point of view, teams like ineos don't seem appealing at all, excitement killers! But again I am sure Tom has good reasons for going there.
  • 1 0
@cowsincars: like @magnusc said, if you want to get paid then road is the place to go. Within the world of the pro road tour, if you want to get paid well and paid on time month after month, then Ineos is the team to go to.

@winko: such an incredible race, and tactics by Henrique. Perfect adjustments from him after the first XCO this weeks. I’ve been cheering for this guy for years, so jacked to see him finally get the win.
  • 5 0
It was an awesome win given how close it was and how bad he wanted it. Super entertaining too, I'm really enjoying the Rd Bull TV coverage.
  • 1 0
@tunnel-vision: I just started watching this week. What a race! Really enjoyed the coverage and I’ll be watching a lot more in the future. Great ride by HA and great coverage by RB.
  • 2 0
Big congrats! That was well deserved, and so beautiful to watch the emotions unfold.
  • 18 1
Congrats to Avancini. Always great to see so much emotion from the winner. The finish to the men's race was incredible. Everyone should watch the replay of the final lap. That has to be the closest XC race ever, with five people practically dead even going into the final sprint.

It couldn't be any more 2020 than the Women's Elite race looking like the atypical Men's Elite race, spread out and dominated start to finish, while the Men's Elite race looked like the Women's Elite, full of drama and uncertainty til the bitter end.
  • 12 0
 Nice work Christopher Blevins!!!
  • 3 0
Can't wait to cheer this dude on in the Elites! So great for the sport and for USA cycling

Henrique Avancini, epic win!! We are so proud of you here in Brasil!!

I think Nino is a top champ, unlucky at the end of the race but all smiles and polite at the end of it. I hope he gets his 33rd WC win one day, but super happy for Avencini to take it today.

Is it possible to get some riders metrics? Avg. Power, speed, cadence?
I wonder what's their output. The men's finish was pretty intense. Pure adrenaline rush.
  • 4 0
Simon Andreassen posts on strava and shares all of his power and heart rate data.

@dindillion: Thank you! I'll check it out!

A lot of big names outside the top 20

On her Instagram, she said she just had a bad day and struggled to make it to the finish. No excuses — it was just a bad day.

It was interesting. My Instagram feed kicked off this morning with a chipper picture of Pauline with a quote about never giving up and trusting the process. Followed immediately by Kate saying she struggled, followed by Jolanda Neff slumped over her handlebars, covered in mud, lamenting that she couldn’t get over her sickness. It covered the spectrum of emotions in theee photos.

No love for Anne Terpstra. A pair of second place finishes in XCO! It sounds like she's hungry for a win at Worlds, too.
  • 4 0
Lol so basically Ceylin Del Carmen Alvarado is already leading in the main roster?

Wtf?
