EWS Cancels First 3 Rounds of 2022
Tasmania's unique terrain made for an excellent EWS race in 2019. The series hopes to return soon.
The Enduro World Series announced today that the first three rounds of 2022 will be canceled, hopefully to return in 2023.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, the EWS and local committees have decided that the three Australia and New Zealand rounds scheduled to take place in Maydena, Derby, and Nelson cannot take place.
 | We’re obviously disappointed not to be visiting New Zealand and Tasmania in 2022, but it’s the right decision in light of the current situation. I personally thank the hard work and support of our Nelson and Tasmanian organisers and we look forward to bringing the EWS back to those venues as soon as possible. |
Nelson built new trails for the event and the whole bike community was looking forward to hosting riders from around the world, so the Nelson Mountain Bike Club plans to figure out when a Nelson event is feasible in the future, club chair Melanie Schroder said.
Depending on how the Covid situation changes between now and the end of 2021, a decision will be made in January 2022 as to whether the EWS can visit those venues in 2023.

All that said, I’m all for the localities deciding when it’s safe to have to get back to normal. This sucks all around.

That shows that that part of Oceania cares about its people while the USA cares about the fvcking dollar.
Vax doesn't make you immune, but it sure betters your odds of getting so sick you end up in hospital or under the ground.
NZ and Australia are so far behind the rest of the world on vax because our governments both thought we didn't have Covid, weren't going to get Covid, so no need to worry about Covid, so vaxxing was not a priority. That is why NZ locked down on 1 case...now at 277...we only had 18% of the population with a jab at the time of that first case. Our govt, and Aussies, both seriously dropped the ball.
NZ has a chance of returning to zero covid as we had nothing before this latest outbreak, and we moved swiftly to a lockdown (unlike NSW), that we may, just may, squash it again.
As mentioned above, both countries will put you in quarantine for two weeks; spaces that are hard to get for normal citizens for literally months (NZ is booked until next Feb)...unless you're an All Black, forget about having any reasonable access into NZ.
UK is showing how a high vaccine rate (70+%) works while USA is showing still that a rate around 50% is not enough. Israel is also a good country to watch for vax v death rates.
If people choose not to get a jab, that is their choice, but they do need to accept that their choice has consequences, and their consequences will be very different to those that did get vaccinated.

Not to mention we wanted the arguably most efficient vaccine (Pfizer), had much less buying power and as mentioned weren't really getting 'fisted' by the rona at the time..
The PR to the world is strong with Ardern, but they haven't hit a single policy yet....promised 10000 new houses a year to solve the housing crisis...from 2017...current total 600ish built....banned gas exploration and further coal consents, pushed the EV car thing by taxing new vehicle purchases and subsidising EV's and now we're importing more coal from Indonesia in three months than we have in three years just to power up our one and only coal electricity generator...but it's all ok, because her oft spoken "be kind" message is what will get everyone through covid, climate change, housing crisis', and no workers to pick the fruit now rotting on the ground.
This has to be the worst government since the 1970's.
Being virtuous is one thing, but not helping your own citizens is a black mark.
We gave all our Astra-Zenneca to the Pacific Islands, and CoVax as well. That's more than admirable.
There are plenty of countries in the world that are still worse off than us by the numbers. Should we stop all vaccines until they are all 100% sorted out? You can chose to believe the spin if you want, but accept that you may know someone (or multiples) that gets very sick or even dies because Ardern was worried about Rwanda, for want of another nation in the world to use their name for the point...
And at least the current government acknowledge there is a housing crisis and climate change, the previous mob were intent on denying both or doing anything about them. Better to be subsidizing EVs vs the previous (effective) subsidy we had on double cab diesel utes!
a) no different to how they look now, as there's a good chance they'd have made the same decisions with the same information and advice (just with these moronic differences in public perception of competence - even Simon Bridges acknowledges this, or
b) see NSW for how we'd look if the Nats took a different path

Every mortality under the sun will somehow find its way into the Covid statics. Thus, to hyper-inact the manipulation of control and loss of liberties.
All kinds of governments of all sorts of persuasions and cultures the world over have dealt with it in different ways and there are very few stand outs. In the passage of time, countries seemingly doing well have had circumstances completely flip them.
We were doing bloody well until the emergence of Delta which has changed the game emphatically.
The slow vaccine roll-out is partial the government's fault but not entirely. People say we "should've ordered more Pfizer". We ordered as much as they could give us which wasn't much when Europe was blowing up. And AZ looked like an absolute master stroke when Europe started preventing vaccine exports because we could manufacture it here.
It's only when everyone went hysterical over isolated blood clotting that our program stalled.

We are seriously behind in vax rates and we have to get them higher before things can be reopened. Otherwise the health system will be overwhelmed.

Kids are least susceptible to covid, and likely most at risk of side effects from the unproven jab; so why are you stressrd out about having an unvaccinated child in public?

If everyone wanted to save lives There would be better ways than FORCING lockdowns, face coverings and experimental drugs. We should be putting these efforts into reducing environmental toxins, war, and especially climate change... but its not about upholding value of life its about money power politics.

In Tasmania, we haven't had a locally acquired covid case since May 2020. We are only about 35% fully vaccinated and just over 50% with a first dose, so I had hoped that we would be around the 80-90% by the time the EWS came around, but I suppose it's the uncertainly that has led to this decision.
Oh well bring on 2023!
Legally we are in a State of Constitutional moratorium while the power has been gifted to the State Police Commissioners, EVERY STATE.
