Last month we covered Pauline Ferrand Prevot's new BMC Fourstroke featuring a standout custom design by an artist who specialises in tape and goes by the pseudonym, No Curves. For Albstadt and the first XC World Cup of the season, the current Elite World Champion joined most of the Women's field in running a hardtail and she opted for another custom BMC with the Twostroke. Let's take a look at some of the finer details on Pauline Ferrand Prevot's race machine.

Just like Pauline's Fourstroke, her Albstadt race bike was running the custom design created by the artist No Curves who uses tape to create his artwork.

The artist No Curves and Pauline Ferrand Prevot share their thought process for the unique custom artwork.

Pauline is another rider running SRAM's BlackBox AXS power meter that we have seen on many of the top riders' bikes. Interestingly on her hardtail, Pauline has opted to not run a minimal chain guide setup for Albstadt. We saw other riders running at least some chain protection on their race bikes.

Carrying over from her bike setup last year is Pauline's choice of wheels with the World Champion sticking with DUKE's carbon offerings. For this year she is running the DUKE Lucky Jack SLS3 6TERS rims with a 30mm internal width upfront and 28mm at the rear.

Alongside the custom artwork on the frame the race machine is kitted out with custom designs on the components and a unique Prologo saddle. The design is also created by the artist No Curves and the saddle features carbon rails, a short length and a claimed weight of just 159 grams.

For the flat out Albstadt course Pauline was running Vittoria's fast-rolling Peyote tires. These are designed for XC racing with a tread pattern that is optimised for dry conditions with low rolling resistance and low weight.

 Am I the only one who sees these XC bike checks and suddenly realises that I know nothing about XC bikes?
It's like it is a different world altogether

 I was just in an xc type race this weekend (which I am not in shape for) and was amazed at how many nice xc bikes there were. I guess you just don't see those bikes when you aren't hanging out on those trails.

 @Arierep: Totally. As an XC guy, Nukeproof is the only one of those I've even heard of, but couldn't pick it out of a line up if the name was hidden.

 @Arierep: we do! All I can think is "this looks heavy and slow" when I look at trail bikes.

 @Philthy503: I think a lot of people ride bikes way over-gunned for their typical ride. I know I do. I think 90% or more of trail around salt lake could be done on an xc race bike comfortably.

 @adrennan: because they aren't hanging out at the trails, they are flying by you in a carbon, lycra and no-peak on the helmet blur

 @Philthy503: the fact that I've seen an early-20s black trail guide hijo rip thru half-mile long rock gardens with his walmart xc hardtail (tho upgraded with acceptably entry-level components) makes me look at XC bikes and think to myself: this thing's a fcking ATV

 @adrennan: Ride a fully rigid single speed for a week and you will realize just how over-gunned you are! Although just because a trail can be ridden on a smaller, lighter bike, doesn't mean it should be or that it will be faster.

 anyone else find those bike checks of xc race bikes more satisfying than bigger bikes (though i would never trade my enduro bike for an xc)?
they're just crisper and cleaner and I feel like there's more attention to detail (even though that's not necessarily true)

 Agreed very sexy bikes, I have an XC bike mostly as a show piece, ride my trail bike everywhere but love drinking with my friends and admiring the slender, racy xc bike. Albeit its fun as hell to ride too.

 Pinkbike needs to take some tips from their sister-site when they do pro bike checks. How much does this bike weigh? How long are the cranks? What size chainring? What tire pressure did she use? Does she run inserts?

 These XC bike checks make me (partially) wish I hadn't parted out my old lightweight hardtail to build my son's bike. Part of me definitely wants to build another one with more modern geo. These articles make me want to do it sooner rather than later.

 I don't know why I get so excited when I see brake calipers mounted between the chainstay and seatstay, but I do. I need to learn to weld and make this happen on my DW-link bike. Any others I have it wouldn't even be possible. So cool!

 I does look cool! But it can be a pain to access the bolts, especially out on a ride with a multitool.

 I love bike checks, but it's been getting a bit less interesting over the last few years as all the frames are starting to look exactly the same. I get it, a design works, go for it. But every hardtail looks really similar now, and everyone's dually looks like some variation of scott/giant or specialized/orbea. The new SC highball looks like the XTC Giant has made for years and the Blur/superlight/TBD looks like another orbea.

 I've always loved the Peyote tires, but I wouldn't run them as a rear. The knobs grip great but I've never thought of them as a fast-rolling rear tire. Hope Vittoria keeps them in their line-up.

 What dropper post is that? It's not the reverb AXS I would expect Yosemite on a SRAM sponsored rider's bike.
