Oisin O'Callaghan has been one of the fastest riders during his time as a Junior on the World Cup DH circuit and, with the move to Elite in 2022, he has announced he will be sticking with his tried and testing setup at YT. During the offseason, he has been doing a lot of training for the shift up to Elites and plenty of time has been spent out on his bikes. Check out how he has his YT Capra enduro bike setup for his winter rides.

Oisin is running the size large Capra frame which has enough room in the front triangle for a decent sized water bottle.

photo
For 2022, the team sponsors stay largely the same for Oisin. This will be a big help with the step up to elites as he won't have to learn how any major components feel when racing.

photo
Oisin has TRP's full drivetrain and brake setup on his Capra.

photo
A full Renthal cockpit upfront and Oisin has even opted for the push on Renthal grips rather than lock-ons.

Not sure how you can call this a bike check.
  • 28 0
First thought for me to. I could have pulled this off and i have no journalism ability what so ever

HEADLINE: Sponsored rider chooses to run parts from the companies he is sponsored by. Reports they are all amazing.

All "journalistic" efforts behind Outside paywall from now on.

 Bike? Check.

Writing "articles" for the PB frontpage is getting easier by the day.
  • 12 1
 Full spec sheet on beta
  • 14 1
@PinkyScar: Is that actually the case? Honest question. If I were a subscriber, would I actually see more, or just have access to Beta articles?

Kaz, and the gang (from what I can see) are mostly absentee. Maybe it’s just slow because is the off season here in NA, but truly, there’s very little that interests me at PB as of recent times and I visit this site less and less. At least if I want to read an article that’s not behind a paywall Freehub is still free.

Yeti HQ will be calling up the lawyer. "So, like anyone can just use OUR teal blue!?"

 Poor man’s Yeti
  • 15 13
 That orange fork tho..gross.
  • 6 1
I have the feeling we'll be looking back at that color 10 years from now and say that's so 2022. Yeti, Ibis, Evil, now YT. I don't get it.
  • 21 0
@andelinc: Yeti has been rockin turquoise since '85?
  • 2 0
@TCarl11: I know, but just recently everyone else started with the turquoise.
  • 10 1
 @andelinc: And Bianchi before them
  • 3 0
@TCarl11: and isn’t it an odd POD for a product… just a color. Yet they have been consistent enough to pull it off.

I see this as a weird trend - so many colours have been similar across brands the last few years… is there only one paint shop in Taiwan? Or is there an infustry Color consultant that is the poo?

@darren853: More like former Middle Class member's Yeti

@crussell: Bianchi's 'Celeste' rules them all.

Does it bug anyone else when they put the frame travel in the shock specification? There is no such thing as a Fox X2 Float 165mm, it is a 230x65.
  • 4 0
Both would be nice to know. Leverage rate and shock specifications are both relevant. Maybe they show the other at Beta?

 My bike check

I have a bike
Boing boing bits front and rear
Tires that go shralpy shralp
Brakes that go sshhhstop
Steering that goes twisty twist

End of check

Can I be a columnist now?

No grasshopper, because you entirely forgot the gears that go clickedy click. You have much to learn.
  • 22 5
Must be a pain removing the shock to get your bottle back out trail side
  • 9 3
The brace is only on one side I think
  • 1 0
@CustardCountry: yep only on one side… yet they prioritised left hand bottle grabbers as they are clearly the majority????
  • 2 1
@JosMaple: chainring on the right side…
  • 3 0
Right hand stays on the throttle.
  • 16 0
What's up with that (poorly) glued on brake pad cover?
  • 1 0
 Looks like shoe-goo
  • 2 0
Cant imagine it helps much, might even trap a greater amount of debris.
  • 16 1
So he swam out to the supply ship and got it off himself?

Some of my favorite content on Pinkbike during the race season! Except ones that actually have list of components and settings...

Do most Enduro racers use full DH Casing? I have used a DoubleDown casing at several bike parks and have yet to get a flat. However I'm definitely not riding as hard as they are...
  • 3 0
DH casing tires are just a bit stiffer so they dont squirm as much through rocks and fast turns which leads to more confidence in my eyes.
  • 1 0
@eljefe1: makes sense. What kind of weight penalty would that be? I don't count grams on my bike, so I wonder if that would negatively affect the ride characteristics at all. Confidence gains vs. Weight penalty ... on a DH bike that is one thing, but on a Enduro bike you have to pedal all day..... who knows!

On his"ask anything " Jack Moir said " 2ply all the way".

In my experience (which is well below enduro racing) the 2ply Minions are way more supportive and give a very planted feel that inspires one to go full speed into rock gardens - which is definitely not the case with EXO, and also DD feels less secure. Riding uphill with 2ply Maxxgrip is no fun.
  • 3 0
@t-rick: The DH DHR 2 is actually pretty light, about 1280 g or so in the 29 X 2.4 configuration, which is way lighter than a Magic Mary in SG. I would also be running those if only the maxxgrip rubber would not fail below 6 degrees - which is the temperature around here at least 1/3 of the year.

 @optimumnotmaximum: Very interesting!

 Seems sparse...

 Ed,

What’s that on the saddle? What’re the brake pad covers? Is that a slipped derailleur cable plug?
  • 3 0
 Are those titanium bolts?
  • 3 0
Is that a Bike Yoke post sleeve?
  • 7 0
Are we looking at a Stiffmeister?

P.S. I'm going to keep on throwing out questions, even if they're way off base
  • 6 1
Always surprised by some pros tyre choices, appart from that we don’t learn many things in this article
  • 10 0
What is surprising with 2x DHRII 3C? Great tyre front and rear.
  • 1 0
@lkubica: any downsides to the DHR2 in the front?
  • 3 0
@Svinyard: not for all the world cup racers who do extremely well with that setup. So no for you too
  • 1 0
@Svinyard: best front tire ive used apart from the assegai
  • 1 0
@Svinyard: Also it doesn't have the great big channel of no confidence between the middle and side knobs like the DHF, or at least less so...
  • 2 0
@Svinyard: Dhr has only one downside for me - it easily breaks traction if you get sideways. So basically it forgives no mistakes in the front, especially in slippery conditions on clay etc. But otherwise it's much better than dhf, great cornering traction, great braking.
  • 2 0
@lkubica: that is good to know, seems like a badass setup. I want less of that channel-of-the-unknown on my own DHF lol. This would be for my grom son (26”). He is sideways often, tho on purpose. Maybe he’ll likely that feature lol. Have you ridden a magic mary? I’m considering the 2.35 26” magic mary or the 2.4 DHR2. Caveat is that it’ll be on 25mm Arch mk3 rims. I’m a bit worried the 2.4 DHR2 might not have a great profile I guess since they are WT..but maybe that’s marketing BS? Magic Mary should theoretically mount really well on that size and is about 75g lighter in this size. (Rotational weight is a thing for kids).
  • 2 0
What’s the point of listing tire pressure if you don’t list the riders weight and the tire casing?

24psi in a Double down casing for 180 pound rider is radically different than 24 psi in EXO casing for 150 pound rider.

I desperately want some of them cable clips for my bike. Not nessesarily from yt, any manufacture would do. Very upsetting seeing his just hanging off one cable not in use.

I like this bike check as it is a good balance. Of all the things to complain about with PB and Outside this is not the thing that bugs me at all. Sure the article could have been more technical but equally many people want a level that suits them. You can be sure the rider and the author have as much or more technical knowledge than the vast majority of the people on here. As regards snarky comments about a sponsored rider using sponsors parts, that may have sounded clever but unless you are suggesting that we never have an equipment check from another athlete or motorsport ever again then maybe say nothing. I once asked PB to delete my account as I could not see how to do it, such a pity it never happened.

I wonder if he had to wait 6 months to get it like the rest of us
