Myriam Nicole had an outstanding 2016 season, which (among other things) included a second place finish at the World Championships in Val di Sole and a first place finish at the French National Championships. Myriam's ride received a bit of a tweak for 2017, which may surprise some readers since her previous rig—the Supreme DH V4—originally debuted at Lourdes in April of 2015. This new "4.2" version, however, includes slightly tweaked suspension kinematics, longer reach and a new, stiffer one-piece rocker. Ross Bell caught up with Myriam Nicole a few days ago, just before the 2017 season got its proper start.

Myriam's Stats

Height – 5'4" / 1.64m
Weight – 128lbs / 58kg

bigquotesWe did a lot of testing with the bike already this winter. We did three trips–to Italy, Portugal, and the Alps—and tried the bikes out on all the different types of tracks. I think the bike is perfect.

I know you play with stack height a bit. How do you set up your cockpit?

The saddle is in the middle position—quite neutral. I like that these Spank bars have a bit of how you say, “kick back”, or sweep. They're so comfortable to ride. I really didn’t think I’d like it, but it’s really fun to ride that way. I don’t ride my levers too low.

Suspension

• Travel: Front 200mm / Rear 220mm
• Pressures: Front: 160psi / Rear: 110psi

I see you have the new RockShox Super Deluxe shock this season...

Yes, I’m running air shocks, front and rear, for the first time. This frame is metric, so the shock fits it and I’m really liking it because it’s lighter and it’s working so good. For me, for racing, I prefer the lighter weight…and it’s working like a coil. It has a really good feel to it—I was surprised.

So the bike's weight is important to you?

Yes. I’m not as muscle-y as the men, or even the other girls, so for me it is important to keep it light, although I don’t like it when the bike is too light… it just feels strange then. But how I have it now, it’s just right.

In terms of suspension setup, how do you have it set up?

For the pressures, it varies, but I’m running 160 psi in the front and in the back, 110 psi. Most of the time I have one token in the fork. In the rear, it depends on the linkage we're using, but from one to three volume spacers.

Do you like the bike to sit quite neutral or do you like more sag in the rear?

It depends on the track. For example, when it’s pretty steep and rough I like a little more sag. On a track like Lourdes, there are some steep sections, but it also goes really fast, so I prefer to have a good balance between front and back.

Do you know your compression and rebound settings?

You want to know everything! [Laughing] For the compression on the fork, I like having it quite open. For the rebound I am quite average—I like it in the middle of the setting range. For the back of the bike, I like having the compression quite open as well, but not too much, and I like the rebound on the rear shock almost fully open. It makes the bike very dynamic.

I see you have the Guide Ultimates and not the Codes…

Yes. Maybe because I’m just not riding as fast as the men, maybe I don’t need as powerful brakes. But it also might be my kind of riding. I like to brake a little bit everywhere instead of braking hard at the last moment… I didn’t try them [the Codes], because I am happy with the Guides, but if I feel like they are not powerful enough, I will go to the Code.

You’re running the new Crank Brothers’ pedals as well…

Yeah, I just got them. I will be running them for the first time here.

Did you change any of the bike’s set-up particularly for Lourdes?

No. We did a lot of testing before so I think I have quite the good bike now. Tomorrow we might make just two or three click of damping change, just to make the suspension a bit slower, but nothing major. The bike is already perfect, I think.

She runs her rear rebound wide open.

Much respect Rach, but I'm looking forward to watching Pompon take this season from you. #PomponFTW

Ah, tidy! Not gonna happen tho see.

@DaySleep3r: allow for auto correct, its a nightmare on this site!

Both seem good though haha!

But yeah go the Pom Pon!

Sick bike, sick rider!

Is it just me or does a dh bike just look wrong with a 'trail bike' shock in it?
  • 15 2
Looks a wee bit small compared to the vivid, proof of the pudding is in the eating though!
  • 10 0
I wouldn't say wrong....but coils definitely look the part Smile

Can anyone answer WHY people are opting for the Deluxe over the Vivid Air ?

When the Vivid came out, it was meant to be revolutionary, so how does the Deluxe compare too the Vivid in that regard?
  • 5 3
@Waldon83: The Super Deluxe is meant to replace the vivid air. Also the vivid air might not ba available in metric sizing
  • 3 0
@Waldon83: I never understood why they didn't put a lock-out switch on the Vivid Air. Otherwise it would probably been a lot more popular on Enduro bikes.
  • 1 0
@Whipperman: Oh yeah, forgot about 'new standards'
  • 1 0
@Waldon83: However i'm septic about the lack of adjustements on both Deluxe coil and air. Rebound and compression only seems short
  • 16 0
@Whipperman: You should probably head over to a hospital then.
  • 1 0
Does look wrong and on that track coil seems the best choice, still maybe it's something to with the linkage ratio maybe she can't get a soft enough spring, though I'm sure Ti Srpings would make one for her, multi coloured Ti spring on one of those new deluxe coils of Rs would be schweeet, maybe she just prefers air, maybe it's the sponsors pushing air, maybe the world will end!! But coil ftw imo fwiw
  • 1 0
@Waldon83: how many years ago was that now dude! Like 08 or something, Vivid ain't new anymore! Lol

Btw before the butt hurt, dosent mean the Vivid ain't any good any more either, just better options now!
  • 1 0
@Maverickdh00: I run a Double Barrel coil CS, the Double Barrel is older than the vivid.

RS are the only company not going with high and low Speed Compression and Rebound, even if the vivid is 'old', the Deluxe brings two things - metric and bushing overlap to decrease heat build up... still don't have full control of Compression or Rebound

160 front 110 rear? Is that backwards? that seems like an awfully stiff fork!
  • 5 1
I would run my fork noticably stiffer in the front. Some people have a foward charging style and the fork needs to be PUMPED!
  • 9 0
My first sentence I kind of look like a moron. Just forget that. Im very tired
  • 2 1
I reckon it's supposed to be 60 psi, that would make sense especially with the low pressure of 110psi in the shock.
  • 1 0
 160 is too much
  • 1 0
@mudmandhbrazil: That's close to what I use, but then I weigh 256 lbs.
  • 1 0
Stiffer in the front softer in the back that's what she said!! Anyways!!
  • 6 0
Anyone know what happened to that Commy V4 that snapped at the end of a WC race last year?
  • 3 1
@Eneite: to be fair thats the kind of failure i like. There is still a chance of you not turning into a ragdoll but ride it out with some dignity. the frame is trashed bu you are not.
  • 1 1
@Eneite: looking at the picture that's just at full compression at the rear, it pivots from the top and the shock is almost coilbound.
  • 2 0
@hollowalex: Look at the kinks in the top and downtube. Also see the hole from the downtube starting to tear directly below the shock.
  • 6 0
I love reading "custom" on the frame size. It reminds me of the old days.
  • 4 0
 that's a g2 rotor....don't they squeal?
  • 1 0
Yea that's odd, figured they'd have the centerline rotors on.
  • 1 0
is it just me? or do they look scorched??
  • 3 0
Don't know why but it reminds me of the Nico V-Process. Nice bike BTW
  • 3 1
Damn that is a hot lookin' bike! So looking forward to the season...especially the women's field tho...
  • 3 1
Outstanding season? Not by her standards and she missed the first 4 races of the season do to injury.
  • 3 0
She just spoke Suspension, Im in love lol
  • 1 0
Love this bike. And yeah, for a light lady, why not run the superdelux, although it looks a bit slim on a DH rig.

SHUT UP AND TELL ME HOW IT STANDS ON ITS OWN

Nice Bike! Lets go Myriam Smile

I think Greg Minaar explains this really well if you can listen and not judge, it suits some riders better than others! And that's a good thing! I've ridden 26"27.5"29" and for my size it makes sense now things have caught up, wheels geo tires, design etc but its not a forgone conclusion smaller riders aren't going to make it works as well as bigger riders at these speeds and skill levels, for muppets like us yes big wheels can give more confidence and speed when you ride like a slug, but what I've seen so far of the track runs, the track will be the winner here not the wheel size! It's going to come down to like it always should, who can hold it together and make it over the finishe line in one peace fastest! That's racing dawg!!
If it comes down to wheel size then tracks have to be questioned and Lourdes is not one of those tracks, if Minaar does win it won't just be because he was on 29" wheels!
But if he wins every round this year, I will eat my socks! One pair, not all of of them! Haha..

 Those wheels are so cute.
