Bike Check: Danny Hart's Saracen Myst

Feb 22, 2018
by Ross Bell

We're at the iceBike* Show where Madison Saracen have been proudly making everyone well aware of their new team rider signing - Danny Hart. He's here in person with his new team colours and fresh Saracen Myst, a bike he says has been a painless transition for him to get used to as he gets up to speed before the race season kicks off in Croatia at the end of April. We got the lowdown on Hart's Myst and what the process is like changing bikes at the top of the sport.

Danny Hart Saracen
Danny's new colours for 2018. He runs a medium 27.5" Myst frame, although hints were made at something fresh in the works. Our guess is a 27.5" version of the prototype 29er Matt Walker was riding towards the end of the 2017 season.

Danny Hart Saracen
Overview on Danny and the Myst

• Height: 5’10” (179 cm)
• Weight: 70 kg
• Frame Size: Medium
• Wheel Size: 27.5"
• Suspension: Fox 40 Fork and DHX2 Coil shock
• Drivetrain & Brakes: Shimano Saint
• Cockpit: PRO 9.8 Components
• Wheels & Rubber: DT Swiss EX471 / Maxxis Minion DHR II

The Switch to Saracen

So obviously you’ve switched teams to Saracen this winter, how’s that process been?

Yeah it’s been really good, a really easy transition. I’ve been riding a lot and taken to the bike really well, we haven’t had to change much. I’ve been really enjoying riding and I’ve been riding at a lot of different places to normal.

The Myst you are on seems like a completely different bike to the Summum you’ve been on, what are the major changes you’ve felt with the move?

The Saracen I’m riding is a little longer, the wheelbase is a bit longer. I was a little sceptical at first but I’ve ridden at Innerleithen and out in Portugal and Italy. The bike handled really well at Innerleithen and at my place in Hamsterley and then when I go out to Italy and Portugal it was just amazing how comfortable I was on the bike even in places that are polar opposites. That’s been a big thing for me that I’ve struggled to understand why, it’s not really normal for that to happen, but it’s just awesome that is what has happened!

Have you got anything you are wanting to experiment with or change going into the season?

Just getting bike time really. We’ll be going out to America to do our suspension test with FOX, I just asked if I could try a carbon bar if that means anything! We are running the PRO stuff and I’ve been on an alloy bar but I wouldn’t mind trying a carbon one because that’s what I’ve been using in the past. So just small things really. Honestly, I’m really happy with the bike, it’s weird to get straight on the bike and not really have to change anything… I’ll go riding and come away thinking, ‘that was brilliant’, I haven’t had to change anything, I haven’t even had a flat tyre. It’s great.

You’ve been able to retain Fox suspension in the move, how much of a help is that for you?

To be fair I haven’t actually had to change much apart from the frame [he rode Fox, Shimano, DT Swiss, and Maxxis last year] so that made for a really easy transition just being familiar with all the brands and everything. We’ve done a little bit of work to the frame to get it to suit me better. Everything has been really easy, it’s a bit annoying as I’ll go ride and think 'right let’s try to think about something here and whether I need to change anything' but there never is anything!

Saracen have a well-developed 29er, your new teammate Matt Walker had great success on the bike at the end of the season - you tried the wheel size last season and ditched it, have you tried the 29” Myst?

I haven’t been riding any 29ers this winter. With changing bike manufacturer I just wanted to straight onto the wheel size that I am used to and get comfortable on that, because I know that will be a bike that I race. Whether it's a 29er or 27.5, worst case it’ll be a 27.5, well not worst case, but you know what I mean! I haven’t ridden a 29er this offseason.

Talking Suspension

Danny Hart Saracen
Danny was coy to not give too much away about his suspension setup, but he said it was a similar setup to last year which would mean a fork pressure of somewhere around 70 PSI.

Danny Hart Saracen
Retaining Fox has made the transition painless, he runs a 350 spring.

How much of your suspension setup did you carry over from last year?

Yeah with the fork and stuff like that, the fork is very similar. The bike is a little bit longer so it maybe changes it a tiny bit but we are always keeping in touch with the guys at FOX and it’s been really easy. I’m on the Fox coil again this year, I haven’t even tried the air actually. I think if you can run a coil you should always run one. I can't believe how easy it has been changing bikes, we haven’t come across any issues or hurdles, I’m really happy with how things are going.

Do you have any figures for your suspension setup you could give us?

Not really, no. I have my setup but it’s not really relevant to anyone else and we are always trying different stuff. We have a good base setting. I don’t even know how many tokens I’m running, but I know I’m on a 350 spring. I just ride and I come down the hill and say ‘it’s doing this or it’s doing that’ and we change it. I have a lot of faith in my mechanic Dave Garland.

Ah nice, you’re back with Dave? He was your mechanic at Giant before.

Yeah Dave is spannering for me, I was with him for a couple of years at Giant before I moved on. It’s good to get back together with him, it’s almost like we have a bit of unfinished business...

Okay in terms of the suspension setup front to back, does the bike sit fairly neutral or do you like it to sit into the rear a little more?

I don’t know! I’m not very good with all these terms. I know what I want and I tell my mechanic ‘it’s doing this or it’s doing that’ and we change it to feel rather than having it ‘I like this and I like that’.

Cockpit, Wheels & Rubber

Danny Hart Saracen
Swapping over from Renthal to PRO for 2018, Danny runs his bars at 780mm. He also plans to try a carbon bar before the racing starts because that's what he has been running over the past few seasons. He said he experiments with bar height depending on the track, steeper gradients will see him lifting the bars.

Danny Hart Saracen
Danny was unsure what stem length he was running for the moment although he said his Myst is actually longer in length than the Summum he was on last season.
Danny Hart Saracen
Shimano Saint stoppers are another crossover Danny has been able to take from Mondraker.

Do you have any details on your cockpit setup?

My bar width is 780mm and I’m actually not sure on the stem length I’m running. Like I said, for somewhere like Andorra I’ll maybe raise the bars a little, for anywhere steep I’ll do that.

You’re on Maxxis rubber again this year, I guess that familiarity helps?

I’ve been on Maxxis for a few years and it’s the only tyre I would use now. I have used others in the past but Maxxis have done really well with their ideas and tires, I wouldn’t use anything else. I just have a go-to tire for every condition. I use Minion DHRs front and rear the majority of the time, but if it’s really really dry, dusty, and steep I’ll use a Shorty of if it’s muddy I’ll also use a Shorty. I’ll maybe use a Minion DHF if it’s dry and not so steep, like at Fort William.

Can you give us any tire pressures? Do you run any foam inserts?

No, I like to keep that stuff to myself. Nah I don’t run any of that stuff, I think if you’ve got the bike setup right then I’d like to say touch wood that you don’t need to run anything like that.

Danny Hart Saracen
Hart prefers 203mm rotors front and rear.
Danny Hart Saracen
A full Shimano Saint drivetrain is a familiar feeling for Danny.

Danny Hart Saracen
Maxxis Minion DHR II's have been Danny's go to rubber choice, he wouldn't let us know the pressure he was running but did say he ran no foam inserts and didn't see the need to if the bike is set up correctly.

Would you say you are quite particular on bike setup?

I think once I get it to a specific place we change it here or there, but we never go and change it massively.

How often would you change your setup depending on the track?

With most of the World Cups varying in tracks, we’ll change it probably most weekends but never dramatically. We’ll add clicks here and there but we’ll never go mental with it.

Would you rather search for the time on track?

I think you’ve got to do both. You’ve got to do both as with the track changing week to week, let’s say you’re racing Andorra… You won’t have the same setup as you might have in Leogang. You’ve got to do both, it’s not just one.

Do you demand anything specific from your bike setup?

I just need to have grip, without the grip I can’t really go. There are a few times over the past few year I have struggled that like, particularly in Lenzerheide where I felt like I was battling a lot. Hopefully, this year we’ll figure it out.

How important is bike weight to you?

Yeah I like it to be light, it’s nice to pick up a light bike. I know nowadays people are tying one thing or another but I like it to be nice and light.

Danny Hart Saracen
A DT Swiss wheelset is yet another crossover Danny has kept.
Danny Hart Saracen
EX471 rims, no carbon to be seen here.

Danny Hart Saracen
New colours for Danny in 2018, how high up the podium will they be seen?

Why is it I'm reading Danny's answers in his accent? Same with the Rat! Good luck Danny! Give 'em hell!
  • 241 1
I did that for a while but I couldn't understand what I was reading so I just switched back to my normal internal reading voice.
  • 22 0
@GeeHad: Best line of the week! Two thumbs up!
  • 4 0
Oh man, it took 3 words to realize his voice was in my head. I can't read now.
  • 2 0
Always doing that and spend 3 times more than when reading with my voice
  • 1 0
He said he doesn't know already. Leave him alone.
  • 4 0
I read your "Good luck Danny!" comment in Rob Warner's accent. nice
  • 56 2
I never would've thought Danny was 5'10". Is he sure? Wink He looks like one of the smallest dudes out there.

Welp, sales on Minion DHR II are gonna go through the roof now that people heard about someone killing it on something other than Minion DHF's.
  • 88 0
He is 510 when standing on his balls , rather than having them tucked into his socks.
  • 6 1
Might be a math error from metric to imperial? I've seen him in Whistler a bunch and he looked more like 5'8" to me (I am 5'10"). Regardless: go on Danny!
  • 2 1
Danny's always ridden DHR II's, this is not new news.
  • 1 0
right, judging by rotor size and the bricks on the wall i would guess 5'8'' hahaha
  • 4 0
 He’s not 5’10” and that’s not 180cm either lol
  • 5 3
DHRs are already popular. They're often run on the back with a DHF in the front.
  • 2 2
 @rezrov:

Uh... Height: 5’10” (179 cm)?

178.99 = 5.8727.

Google lists his height as 1.78m.
  • 1 0
 @rezrov: haha /sarcasm
  • 5 0
@Larkey1: 179cm when converted correctly is 5' 10". The 5.8727 you have there is like saying he is 5' and 8/10ths of a foot which equates to ~ 5' 10".
  • 1 0
@Leppah I think I read somewhere that Greg Minnaar's go to tire is the Minion DHR II for back and front..
  • 1 0
@NorthCoastZack: I'd say 5'4" even. These are 8" rotors (8" exactly would be 203.2mm) and it seems like the rotor is as bikg as a brick. He's eight bricks high so 64". 60" in 5' so 4" left. Seems about right with how big I thought he is judging from pictures only. Never met him.
  • 1 0
@vinay: he's not actually that small to be fair, met him a few times
  • 1 0
@vinay: yeah but you're discounting the cement, that adds up to about 0.5"
  • 1 0
@Grouty2505: Oh yeah, you're correct. So that means they were about correct from the start. That said, I like how we can argue about this kind of stuff (instead of merely about the size of his balls or the way he rides bikes).
  • 33 0
EX471 rims. I believe they have a "normal" 25mm internal width. So I guess pros are not on the soooper wide rim band wagon, or is this more DH race related?
  • 11 0
Right! Next, coil back AND front on most bikes. Its a thing now ! Ask Bruni..
  • 2 2
Right! Next, coil back AND front on most bikes. Its a thing now ! Ask Bruni..
  • 21 1
They’re just very good rims. A good balance of strength, weight and profile. It may be that the slightly narrower width (than is currently popular on trail bikes) works better with DH casings that don’t necessarily need any extra sidewall stability that the thin trail tyres need.
  • 4 2
Dh casings and 70kg weight won't suffer the same as my fat arse and none dh spec rubber.
Can wreck/flop my 25mm rim and tire combo at will even with higher pressure. 30mm it's a unlucky accident and I'm going way faster with it. Same maxxis tires.
Simply everyone different. It's not rubbish marketing ect. Just a solution to a problem for some people.
  • 10 0
 Exactly right Thom.
Any elite level pit walk / race report pics will show you just how popular these rims are. It's not always about super expensive carbon bling, or the latest widths. Well proven, strong and reliable will always have it's place.
  • 6 0
Best rims I've ever ridden. Same rim that Gwin road down most of Leogang with in one piece. I just sold a bike with a pair of those and I was sad to see them go. They are utterly bombproof, incredibly reliable, not too heavy, and generally just cool.
  • 11 1
@markg1150: rider weight is probably the top factor in how any bike part works/lasts. That and ability. If you're fat and fast, good luck basically... A lot of you are easily 50-60% heavier than me, and I keep stuff forever and get away with flimsier stuff. Anyone who bitches about equipment needs to provide their weight in brackets.
  • 4 0
 @BenPea:
Had my 471's built in 2015, they are almost immaculate, never faltered ,105kg
  • 7 0
@pigman65: I think there might be a consensus on 471s. T-Mac Rampaged with them too. No further questions.
  • 6 0
@BenPea: weight is just a small part of rim longevity. Seen lite guys that destroy rims and heavier guys that tip toe around and never blow up rims. Rider style! ! !
  • 2 2
I do love a good rim
  • 1 0
@MX298: Totally right. Weight on the y axis, speed on the x.
  • 2 0
@BenPea: It is the load in the z-axis that's demanding on wheel components.
  • 1 0
@vinay: I wasn't talking literally! But yes. F = MA in all four dimensions
  • 18 0
Such a downsize! How is it possible that Danny at 5'10'' rides the frame with 420 reach? While people at Canyon suggest 460 reach for the same height. Should an average Joe downsize too?
  • 7 4
Seems strange he would go from a 445+ reach at Mondraker down to 420mm now but its not a huge alteration realistically, the comment about this bike being longer than his Mondraker seems to dispute this too though this could be in chainstay / head angle - Is it possible he is on a Large and the info is incorrect?

Not sure, but guys at this level run what they consider fast and dont pay much attention to fashionable reach numbers (I run a 445 reach and im shorter than Danny so im not bashing longer reach bikes, just making a point)

Super long 500+mm reach numbers are a little idiotic though, unless you are a giant of course but I know of two local riders who have both sold ultra long bikes (geometron being one) to go back to a more convenitional (480 reach back to 440mm) bikes as they just found them too much outside of super demanding riding.
  • 7 1
I think it's only his preference. I know it is important for us to have guidelines when we choose a bike for example (me first to be honest), but I think often we try too much to imitate what pros are doing / Setting up when it's just your feeling on the bike that is important. Numbers will remain numbers and will not always justify how you feel on the bike!
  • 5 0
@Racer951: hmm yeah obviously it’s all just personal preference but somethings not quite right...even if he’s on a large Myst (though it states twice he’s on a medium) the wheelbase would be shorter than the Mondraker wouldn’t it?
Or does he mean HIS Saracen is longer than the stock one?
I’m not sure if the geometry has changed or which size Mondraker he rode but the reach of the two bikes is actually very similar size for size. But the Mondraker has longer chainstays - maybe he’s got a longer rear end on it? Seems unlikely, I’m just not sure how this bike is longer than the Mondraker.
Not that any of this matters. We all know long bikes are stupid Razz
  • 18 0
Aparently the bike shown above isn´t even the bike he´s riding atm, as he´s been spotted aboard a black aluminium prototype with different linkage placement.
So much for feeling straight at home on the frame, while immediately going for a different design! Not hating on Danny, but always take what sponsored riders tell you with a grain of salt for various reasons.
  • 3 2
@ThomDawson: I very much doubt this is a non-standard carbon frame at this point in the season / contract with Saracen, especially as it runs a 56/56 headtube so you can just use +-10mm headcup you are inbetween sizes.

EDIT _ looks like @Loki87 could have cleared that one up and he is on an aluminium proto.

He does state twice it is longer than his Mondraker though so something isnt right, as you say though not like it actually matters!

'Long' bikes are starting to be stupid, the Airdrop bikes blog is a pretty good read on this, a 440mm reach for a guy of his height would have been huge years ago but very normal today as the industry has played catch-up. Some 'companies' (loose sense of the word) seem to think they are pioneering forward with 500mm+ reach and that this is 'innovation' but fastest riders on the planet dont seem to agree with them.....
  • 26 0
Skeptical that Danny is actually 5'10"
  • 10 0
Dude you seriously believe he is 5'10"???

Do a little research on height of those bricks if you want "truth"
  • 29 1
@Macca400: he's clearly not arsed about numbers. Stem length? Dunno. Pressures? A bit squidgy. How tall are you? I'll call me mam.
  • 5 0
 It is his shoe sponsor!!
Great marketing Danny
@Macca400:
  • 3 0
@Loki87: ah yes of course. The proto may well be longer. Doh!

I’ve seen his height reported as 5’10” before...he got in the gondola I got out of (as I nervously said “good luck Danny” in my best 12yr old voice) at fort Bill last year and he definitely didn’t seem that tall. I’m only 5’6” and he didn’t seem to be that much bigger than me. I guess he knows his own height better than I though!
  • 3 0
 510
  • 3 0
@Macca400: Aaron Gwin is 5'9" so I agree with you. Something is off
  • 1 0
@Racer951: it's not a medium on the picture. It's a large. For sure Wink
  • 2 0
 @H3RESQ:

We know the wheel diameter so it should not be so hard to get the truth.
  • 1 0
@BenPea: Seems to be 45mm, in case anyone is wondering. At least it would be, if the bike pictured is the one he's riding.
  • 1 0
@Macca400: +1,that was the biggest news of the article.
  • 1 0
 @KrazyKraut: that's the best length
  • 1 0
@H3RESQ: Easier to plot the height using the dhr as benchmark. Looks like 2.4s.
  • 4 0
@AlexS1: those are probably 9” tiles, cross referencing with the wheel diameter and ~180cm seems correct. Can’t believe I just sat and worked that out lol
  • 7 0
@H3RESQ: If those "bricks" are normal size, that makes him just over 2ft tall !
  • 6 0
@MickT13: what is this? A DH bike for ants!?
  • 1 0
@MickT13: Don't confuse bricks, and cement blocks covered in slate...both in the picture
  • 4 3
@Racer951: Racers are a conservative bunch, in general, so I would't make claims like so and so rides a short bike fast therefore short bikes are faster. Also good riders can make pretty much any bike go fast so there is that too.
As for 500mm reach bikes being "silly", "too long" or just more marketing BS, I say go out and try one before making those claims. I have one and it is by far the best bike I have EVER had. I'm 5'11" (180cm) and thus not a giant. Personally I find we have all been riding bikes that are way too short for us for years. Riding off the back is a clear example of that. Look at motorcycles and you can see how the bikes fit the riders. The new generation of "long" bikes are not really long but just the right size and frankly it is about time.
  • 2 0
@H3RESQ: I think it is you that is confused, that was a joke,a poor joke yes, but a joke all the same.Anyway who cares if he is 5ft 10 or 2ft 10 he has massive BALLS
  • 1 0
 @ThomDawson: I agree also
do the math and compare his height to the tiles in the background in the first pic.. hmmmm
I see 6"x12" tiles x 7 stacked ontop of each other then 3 2" tiles. hmmm doesn't work out. but either way. BALLS are big for short little fella
  • 1 0
@ThomDawson: From the dhr and the rotor, his 5'10 includes 4" of balls.
  • 13 1
One of my all time favorite riders but this wasn't a really informative interview since he sounded a bit like John Snow (I don't know anything) and on top of this a bit confusing when he mentioned that the Myst is longer than the Mondraker! Anyway, "stay on your bike Danny" and please ride fast and consistently and give us a great season!
  • 2 0
I kinda like that this incredible rider just dgaf about a lot of particular numbers.
  • 2 0
@trmcl24: I found that interesting. Knows f*ckall about how to set up his bike, yet rides like a madman. Just imagine if he knew how to tune it...
  • 3 0
@Poulsbojohnny: It's tuned by a pro mechanic who knows what Danny means when he says "it's doing X". As a pro he doesn't really need to get into the technical stuff himself, but I'm positive he can tell when something isn't to his liking, and his mechanic knows how to fix it.
  • 9 0
lol - i love Danny and other Pros that just ride their bike by feel and passion and cant be arsed with all the numbers, standards and BS that the general consumer are forced to endure ... this interviewer, so desperate for numbers and Danny just chillin'' !!!
  • 8 3
I got NOTHING out of that article except the following:
Danny Hart - 5'10" 155lbs (thanks google)
Stock Saracen frame feels good with all my exact same parts and setup from last year.
I run large rotors
I don't know shite about the reach on this frame (why don't you Danny?)
I'm NOT riding this bike for World Cups
I have a new/old mechanic
Carbon bars - tryin' em
DANNY HART IS RACING FOKKING WINDROCK FOLKS!!!!
  • 1 1
 Danny Hart - 5'8"

( Uh... Height: 5’10” (179 cm)?

178.99 = 5.8727.

Google lists his height as 1.78m.)
  • 6 1
Gwin tells us how much he gets paid and Hart won’t even say his air pressure. A real shame because if Hart told me his air pressure I could have put that in my tires and been faster than him and won.
  • 2 0
Gwin doesn't tell how much he is paid, and also doesn't share his air pressures lol
  • 1 0
@ibishreddin: you are out of the loop on this one, he did google it
  • 7 0
A medium sized guy on a medium sized bike frame. Imagine that!
  • 5 0
I scrolled too quick through that post - I Myst the content! On a side note - looking sharp!
  • 6 0
can't wait to do this again in two years when he has a new bike sponsor
  • 2 0
technically, they're all just frame sponsors unless the bike is a Hope. Then it's a "bike" sponsor with only a couple of parts like fork and shock & derailleur/shifter/chain/tire .
  • 3 0
Wondering if it's the same stock linkage...Normaly it should ride with a #375 or #400 and not #350 to be the same he rode with the #450 summum. Strange...
we will see when he will push the limits...
  • 1 0
Can you please explain what you mean? Because of the lower leverage rate at the beginning of the travel?
  • 4 0
@nieroc: On the Myst at 33% (sag) leverage ratio is 10% less than Summum. If he rode with #450 on Summum, it will need +/- #400 on the Myst. BUT the Myst is less progressive than Summum after 70% travel. With #400 on it, he probably bottoming-out a lot more than the Summum...
With the #350 it's totaly impossible for his level and weight...Or it's not the stock linkage...
Strange, but we don't see the spring, and he's talking about a medium and it's a large on the picture.

#conspiration ha ha ha

But seriously. How does he sit down with balls that big?

Gross dude - is that still a remark over there? Thanks, Rob.
  • 3 0
The clue is in the pictures. Do you see him sitting down in them?

He NEVER sits down.
  • 2 0
I don't get why all riders don't just share their setup numbers, let's say he runs 76.4psi in his forks and has his brake levers angled at 23 degrees down, who in their right mind at a pro level would do it just because Danny does?
  • 1 0
If he knew that the game is truly afoot, he'd give out his numbers, but slightly off. Then everyone would be truly screwed.
"I run 42psi mate. Not gonna chance a flat" and just listen for the "pong" trackside of the lemmings suckered into following. Big Grin
  • 1 0
I’ve never understood this either. It’s not as though there are secret pressures his mech. Could be putting in his tires that nobody else has. Pressure being such a personal preference anyway, I’m also a bit lost about why interviewers even ask. Seems like an irrelevant question asked for the sole purpose of getting a bashful abswer
  • 2 0
One of the worlds fastest not on the longest or slackest frame available?! Doesnt that mean hes going to be slow?!!! Bike industry tell him he should be on a longer frame to go faster!!
  • 2 0
He´s on a prototype aluminium frame already ;-)
  • 2 0
@Loki87: One which I imagine is not: shorter, steeper, and higher.
  • 6 3
Why so secretive about tyre pressures? It's just a f*cking number and chances are there are thousands of people out there running exactly the same pressures
  • 7 1
Buuuutttt - what if I weigh 165Lbs, am 5'10" tall and start running the same tire pressure as him - and then I'm as fast as he is? He'd have more competition! Totes top secret information.
  • 1 0
@nouseforaname: 100% agreed, even run to run at the same track as tires warm up, altitudes change etc etc the pressure changes, the number is completely irrelevant, I dont get it.
  • 3 0
"I haven’t even had a flat tyre. It’s great." ....jinx or what ?
Great looking bike , i had it's predecessor, it was very long.
  • 2 0
If he was on a Specialized he'd be done

Definitely a prelude to him flatting at every single WC event this year. You never say stuff like that out loud! The universe doesn't appreciate it.

Mate, I have disagree with you there. There are some DH rigs that look damn sexy, e.g V10, M16C,and Demo to name a few, but to be honest this isn't one! Also what happened to Renthal that Danny had so much success with?

@MancAndy: Saracen are owned by the UK distro of Shimano and as such its not suprising to see the bike covered in Shimano / Pro gear - Plus so long as the bar is the right shape and feel its not going to matter

Guys, explain to me. In the picture on the tires there is no inscription TR - tubeless ready. Does this mean that he is on tubes? Or it can be installed tubeless?

5'10" .. musta been on his tip toes haha
  • 1 0
What is the rationale behind not wanting to give fork pressure away? Anyone can see your sag and you just told everyone your weight so?
  • 3 0
 Why give anything away ever?
  • 3 0
5' 10" !!! WE TALKING ABOUT HIS SHOES RIGHT?
  • 1 0
No way is he 70kg he must be way more. I’m 510 and skinny kid who works out to keep mussel and I’m like 71kg

I've always liked the look of the Myst. Too bad it's almost impossible to find one in my part of the world.
  • 2 0
I like his no-nonsense approach to what he rides. We need more of that.
  • 1 0
He didn't mention if he was still running a coil in his fork although he did mention tokens so maybe it is air this year?

I wonder if certain pros play dumb when asked about bike setup so that they don't reveal their secrets for speed...
  • 1 0
All this long reach talk and one of the fastest riders in the world is on a 420mm reach bike... go figure
  • 1 0
No matter how big the bike is, Danny has been ridden a prototype for weeks. This bike is just for the show
  • 1 3
You know when a chick says she is 120 lbs when she is really 150 lbs ? Well Danny is not 5'10. I am 5'10 and he was much shorter than me when we spoke at a DH bike park mountain I manage . I just thought it was funny that he would lie about his height like women do sometimes about their weight. Ha insecurities !

The Myst is awesome. Pretty bike.
  • 1 0
it's not a medium on the picture. It's a large. For sure Wink

Those saint levers don’t look like saints! More like the old xt. Maybe that’s the cure to the wandering bite point.

Trump is 239lb's and Danny Hart is 5'10.

Very informative interview, proving danny knows f*ck all about his setup
  • 1 0
 Wish I was 70kg
  • 1 2
 Uh... Height: 5’10” (179 cm)?

178.99 = 5.8727.

Google lists his height as 1.78m.

Carbon bars are way too stiff for me. Maybe for a one-off race, but not day-to-day riding.
  • 8 0
Stiffness is a property of shape as well as material.
  • 12 0
Try a different carbon bar - many carbon bars are designed to be exactly the opposite and take out trail buzz in a way that most aluminium bars cannot do.
  • 2 0
Not only the material propertys determine a carbon bars feel. With carbon it´s even more about layup and construction/diameters.
What you´re saying is like saying "steel springs are too hard for me since they´re made from steel" ;-)
So maybe try another carbon bar, there´s certainly really flexible/well damped carbon bars out there and you may happen to like one of them :-)
  • 1 0
the P.R.O Tharsis carbon bars are very flexy, to the point i got rid of them out of fear of breaking them.
  • 1 0
@Loki87: I can't afford to try other carbon bars when they go upwards from £100. Renthal claim their carbon bars are identical in feel but I switched out my carbon Renthal for an aluminium one and it was instantly noticeable how the alu bars are more forgiving.
  • 4 0
@Racer951: I agree. I found them lots more comfy and reduce vibration a lot more than alloy bars.
  • 1 0
@dubod22: Were they the same rise, same width, same diameter? etc etc.

You may not be able to afford different bars but its wrong to tar all products with the same issue, its like saying you wont ride a carbon frame because they are too stiff - not all carbon frames are the same.
  • 1 0
@dubod22: I have to agree with @Racer951 here. Try for example a Renthal Carbon Fatbar, they have such a nice controlled flex, taking away much more then some of the Aluminium Bars I rode before, like for example the Raceface Atlas, which was stiff af! Big Grin
  • 2 0
@doe222: Ya, um...flex is what helps a lot of materials not break.....
  • 1 0
try Reverse. They've got a lot of Flex. I've got no armpump riding them

"Yeah Dave is spannering for me".

Sounds steamy.
