Jordie Lunn is no newby to the mountain bicycle world, but for many, it may seem so. More recently, Jordie has been popping up more and more with his ridiculously large and crazy lines to match his obviously ridiculously largeā¦ well. For many of us it started in the winter with the below and progressed to his Rough AF 1 and Rough AF 2 episodes. Now we have this amazing deep dive into the person that is Jordie Lunn, and looks are very deceiving.
When I first heard about Bear Mtn DJ Park was from a friend who works in the bike industry... so before there were signs etc, I went looking for it. After some time I roll up to the park and to my surprise Jordie was there doing maintenance on the jumps... he stopped what he was doing came over and introduced himself and then proceed to show me around the park, offering tips for various obstacles etc. On subsequent visits to the park I'd see him hosting a kids camp and the guy just rocked. He was so good with the kids and got them stoked! The bike industry, no, the world needs more people like Jordie. #roughAF
so crazy to relate to this man, in the way that with my wife we sold everything and moved to this island in Chile, where we practicly introduced MTB and i've been building since in a very similar environment, only about 5% of the gnarlyness he's got in his trails hahaha
I hate it when my personal biases are proved wrong and thrown in my face. After watching the "Rough AF" vids, and of course, looking at Jordie's appearance, I made all the assumptions about a reckless, living-hard adrenaline junkie that will flame out in a "tragic accident" brought on by his own craziness. "Wouldn't want to expose my kids to someone like that!"
Apparently I am an a$$hole. Man, what an awesome dude. Hope my 3 year old boy finds values and work ethic at this level. Looks like I have some growing up to do at 43 years old.
Not to take anything away from these athletes but now as a parent too I realize how important it is to inspire your kids, give them opportunities and allow them to actually take them. So many of our heroes have had parents, siblings or parents' friends who were already deep in the sport or in something related or at least have been very, very supportive. Stevie Smith, Anneke Beerten, Atherton, Manon Carpenter, Loic Bruni, Lunn here "... so eventually I bought my own excavator... ". And of course it takes the right kid to grab those opportunities and make the most of it. It doesn't mean I'd only be happy if my kids excel at "my" sport nor if they do at school or business. I'm happy if they develop a true passion. If your kids live their live (or have lived) their lives like those mentioned here and you've had your part in it, you know you've done well.
See, it takes a while until fathers day again so we need some half term (or well, 1% term) recognition to get by in the mean time.
@UncleOrmo: I actually judged his roughness based on his all in riding style and general badassness. I only gave him an extra 9/100ths of an advantage based on looks. But I'll bet he deserves more.
Woah! Hearing his voice in regular conversation makes me think of the interview with his Pops in ROAM. They sound so much alike now that he is older. That DJ scene in his backyard is what got me confident to start getting my bike off the dirt and into the air.
I started riding serious in about 2001! I only know jordie from movies and magazines but he is and was my alltime favourite rider! Such sick style and riding. It motivates me totally! So sick to see him being still top of the game!
I remember 10 years ago watching Jordie and thinking how dope he was. Then he kinda disappeared until now. Cool story, stoked to see him doing well. As the first poster said, the world and MTB need more people like this.
NIce! met Jordie waaay back in 03 I think at Summer Gravity Camp. He was killing it then and great to see him getting more exposure. First time I had ever seen someone go big live...
Back in the late 90,s/early2000,s we would head to Hammerfest ever year and the Lunn brother,s where just on the scene tearing up the trails and jumping .
Was hiking Mt.Finlayson with my lady friend and noticed this bear-like man. Turns out it was Jordie! Said hi and he was super cool - if approachable is what you're going for, you've achieved it dude!
From a guy who grew up watching you in MTB movies, that was a really cool moment in life. All the best!
keep inspiring people Jordie!!!
