WHISTLER, BC, June 16, 2005 – Two leaders in the historical evolution of mountain biking in Whistler are collaborating to further encourage the growth of youth development in the sport. STORMBC and Whistler Blackcomb have announced a partnership to incorporate STORMBC’s programs into the Whistler Mountain Bike Park program lineup.

“We are really excited about this season,” says Chris Colbeck, founder and head coach of STORMBC. “Running programs with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park will enable us to provide youth with access to the best downhill mountain biking terrain and skill development programs in North America.”Through progressive skill development, quality coaching and a friendly club atmosphere, STORMBC’s programs have provided children and youth with a balance of training and recreation since 1998. Although STORMBC has produced national and provincial champions and is coached by two national team members, the programs are designed to meet all abilities and skill levels focusing on delivering a fun, positive learning environment while maximizing development.

“This partnership with STORMBC makes a lot of sense to Whistler Blackcomb as we continually strive to open the sport of mountain biking up to a greater range of riders,” says Rob McSkimming, VP Business Development at Whistler Blackcomb. “Chris (Colbeck) has built a phenomenal program and we intend to add to that with our marketing strength to make it even more successful.”

STORMBC’s successful programs range from the Weekend Warriors designed for 6-18 year-olds from BC and Washington State, to the locally-focused mid-week Epic Ride for beginner to intermediate riders, to the DFX program for the many young rippers in the corridor. Programs run throughout the summer between June 18 and October 9.

“Participants in the STORMBC programs will benefit greatly from the access to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and its myriad of beginner to expert trails,” Colbeck reinforces. “This access, when combined with the great mountain biking that our programs offer throughout the Whistler Valley, exposes the kids to so many more possibilities within the sport. They’re stoked to get out there!”
