A little about Isaac

How I got into Biking:

Well it all started in the early 80’s, I was a young boy probably 3 or 4 when my Dad brought home my first bike. It was a really great bike, however it had training wheels on it, for me this was not the way to go. One day while my Dad was at work I grabbed his tools and hucked them. According to my Mom I just jumped on the bike and started riding, within a week I was trying to pop wheelies and running through the ditch in front of our house. After that I just rode bikes like most kids do, building little jumps and riding on playground equipment, up to and through out my teenage years. I did not really get into Mountain Biking until I was 16, that is when I worked all summer to buy my first front suspension aluminum cross country bike. At that point I began riding cross country, I even thought about racing, but fate intervened. I noticed while riding at my local mountain biking area, the Delta Watershed, these intriguing wooden stunts started popping up all over the place. It felt like their main purpose was to challenge my balance, skill and guts. Shortly after the learning all the stunts, the eight foot drops and log jumps took their toll on my cross country bike and basically broke it in half. I then bought my first full suspension bike and was hooked. I have been riding (and playing) and progressing (and playing) ever since. Pretty much I’d rather ride than breathe.

My favorite thing about biking:

There are so many things I love about biking. I love the fact that it is acceptable to go out and play in the mud and get as dirty as you want. I also love being in the outdoors. I think it’s great that biking has no age group, a fifty year old and a fifteen year old can ride together and have fun. The adrenaline rush can not be beat. I have met a ton of super people through out my years of biking and have made some really great friends. Definitely one of the best things about this sport is that most riders are super friendly, and they are almost always willing to share a ride and some stories with you on the trails. However I would have to say my absolute favorite thing about biking is the personal challenge. I really get a thrill out of going out and doing something I’ve never done before or learning how to do something new.

The thing I like least about biking:

That would definitely have to be crashing. It usually hurts…. the body and the wallet.

What I do when I’m not biking:

Although mountain biking takes a huge majority of my time, I still have time for a life. I work in the construction industry for my day job. I am also a volunteer Fire fighter for the city of Surrey. During the winter I snowboard, when I’m not biking. With the other time I can find, I like to spend it camping, working out or just hanging with my friends.

Types of riding I do:

I mainly free ride, I race Downhill, I dirt Jump a bit, and I do a little Urban riding.

Goals this year for biking:

1. Build up my trick repertoire.
2. Film a lot.
3. Win a Downhill race.
4. Travel around and ride a bunch of places I’ve never ridden before.
5. Have fun riding.
6. Ride! Ride! And Ride some more!

Notable mountain biking accomplishments:

First place 2004 Bear Mountain BC cup race, Men’s hard tail category

Appearance in West Coast Style, freeride fundamentals. This is an awesome video for people who want to learn how to ride more confidently on any type of terrain. It is definitely worth taking a look at. www.westcoaststyle.org

People I would like to thank for my success in mountain biking.

I would like to give Devinci bikes a huge thanks for setting me up this year on an Ollie. I have had a few rides on it since I got it and I am very impressed thus far. Stay tuned for complete review and pictures through out the season.

My parents for supporting my decisions with riding; and for their financial help when I bought my first few bikes.

Derek Roque from Fracture Products.

Fransico from Trailside Physio He is always there when I need a little therapy after a crash. www.trailsidephysio.com

Radek and Tyler from Pinkbike.com
