Video: Whistler Mountain Bike Park Opening Weekend

For many riders, the opening weekend of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park serves as the unofficial kickoff to summer, no matter what the weather may be. It's a chance to get reacquainted with familiar trails and lift-line friends, and to dial in the downhill bikes that lay dormant over the winter when they were put aside in favor of skis, boards, or shorter travel bikes.

The weather for opening weekend was a mixed bag – dark clouds and rain were engaged in a tough battle against sunshine and blue skies throughout the weekend, although the sunshine prevailed in the end. With a record number of trails open for the first weekend of the bike season, it was easy to find a trail to suit the conditions. Sunshine and semi-dry dirt? Hit up A-Line and Dirt Merchant to start racking up those frequent flyer miles. Foggy and rainy? Brush up on the technical skills and take a lap down Schleyer or Angry Pirate for a dose of wet weather fun.










Jay Louden, of Loudenterprise, was manning the booth for Pinkbike, offering up free mechanical support for riders in need.
