Leaving SRAM is a tough one for me. I have been with RockShox for 16 years, so you could say the brand is engraved in me. But like most things in life nothing lasts forever and it has been a great time over the last 16 years. I want to thank each and every person at RockShox and SRAM who have helped me achieve my goals in my career. I have made lots of friends and had some fun times. Thanks guys! -Steve Peat |
Since joining the Syndicate in 2008 your support has been incredible. Thanks to all the crew that work hard behind the scenes making sure our Black Box equipment was keeping us ahead of the rest. -Greg Minnaar |
I've ridden SRAM since I started mountain biking and I've come far using their products. Times change and so do sponsors, thanks for 4 years on the Syndicate without a mechanical in a race run. -Josh Bryceland |
Our partnership with SRAM over the years saw many milestones achieved, Steve Peat's 2009 World Championship in Canberra, Greg Minnaar's win at Maribor in 2010 aboard the first carbon bike to take a World Cup win, and countless podiums over the last 8 years. I would like to thank the whole crew at SRAM for the great memories and support. -Rob Roskopp |

Just my two cents.
that would be interesting.
But... Just plain aesthetics, imo V10c's with DLC Boxxers look sexier than Kashima 40's. Yey or ney?
The best equipment for a racer? Sram derailleurs, Marzocchi Fork, CCDB ammo, Formula Brakes... IMHO
Sad to see the breakup, but things to change, that's just life. All the best to both parties.
That being said, is there any other athlete sponsor relationship that has been as long as Pete with Rockshox?
I should have made it clear that my comment only applied to the people who make blantantly stupid comments about sponsorship changes.
So redrook you're not one of the kids who comes in here and makes stupid comments about sponsor changes. And even to me it will seem "off" to see them on non SRAM stuff. But I'm not going to come in here and flame.
I like how I'm getting neg props for this yet kids who flame about sponsorship changes will get double digit likes. This thread has been strangely civil, I remember when (was it martin?) went to Specialized and all the pinkbike kids where saying crap like "wow what a dumb move". Oh an how people neg props gee as well...
Saying that I've been running new gen Saint this past 8months and while it started out well and I like some of the benefits, it just reminded me why I have a love hate affair with Shimano the top jockey wheel is too far away from a close ratio cassette to be real effective and will be going back to Sram, I've never had a DH mechanical on Sram and over the last few months nothing but issues on Shimano. currently running an Ultegra road RD, I would go 10spd XO DH, but I know Sram have been working on a proper DH close range cassette and RD so wait to see if this happens soon, 10spd so OTT on a DH bike. the Ultegra also blows away the Saint for performance and speed and crispness of shifting still using Saint shifter though, I know its not new idea but its night and day.
Fox will be cool to see on the V10c the 2012 Kashima is hot, but once a Boxxer is setup right dam its hard to beat, did the shim stack recently and blown away by the forks control, everything still stock except the oil seals removed and use fox 36 foam rings to keep oil from leaking, so smooth in initial stroke, just kills the factory setting.
Good luck to em, both Peaty and Minnar still some of my fav riders even on Fox and Shimano, word is full Shimano too heard this before Xmas, bet they don't run stock Saint either, mix of XTR and Saint like Sram do with X0 I bet, no way would they stay with Saint drive train as stock its so bad, especially once its gets on the Dirt, mind you a mechanic to sort it after every run does help..

Second, even if SRAM dumped them, I do not see any other marketing activity (including having a winning horse in the gravity circus) from SRAM coming . That being said, I presume some other changes will come (like GHerbold moving to Troy Lee - Joke) at SRAM, since looks like they are rethinking they Marketing budget.
On the other side , Shimano is pushing to get the image of premium producer (without BlackBox) but with IceTech and XTR 4 the people = XT - price placement technic , what at the OEM business is quite important to win a traditional share of market that as major for SRAM.

I think maybe that this was a good move and gives them a chance to use other components with the bike. Who knows? Maybe they'll have a Syndicate rider win the wc this year?
