How amazing is this collection of videos for the “Ride Giant. Ride Whistler” contest?
A month ago we asked Pinkbike.com readers to show us the people, places and things that inspire you to ride—and, wow, did you deliver. More than 150 awesome videos, incredible!
Today we begin the process of selecting our winner. Every video here is worthy in its own right, but take a spin through all of them and you start to get an idea of the ones that resonated the most. These are the truly special works, the elite group that will make the cut and be named finalists in our contest.
Each of the finalists is now in the running for the grand prize. Over the next week our guest judges - Giant rider Jeff Lenosky and filmmaker Clay Porter - will review the top-20 and choose the winner.
As a reminder, here’s what’s at stake: a brand new Giant Glory frame plus a free trip for two to Whistler for the world-famous Crankworx event. Giant is covering airfare, accommodations, lift tickets and free Giant bikes to ride at the most amazing bike park on the planet.
Plus the winner will get to hang with the Giant Factory Off-Road Team and enjoy full-on VIP status at some super-fun Crankworx events and parties.
To everyone who took the time and effort to create a video, and to show us what motivates your “Ride Life,” we send a huge thanks. You showed us that it’s a big world with a ton of amazing places to ride—and endless reasons to get out and do it.
And for the top-20 finalists listed here, best of luck! Be sure to check back next week, July 3, when we’ll announce the winner.
Stay tuned to Pinkbike for more contest updates in the coming weeks. View all the video entries

Happy 50th Paul Neve - Todd Madsen Giant Ride Life Special: Paul Neve is a West Oz MTB legend, he has built many of the trails in WA and ridden downhill for over 20 years. To celebrate Paul's upcoming 50th, Todd Madsen heads back to where DH all began in WA, Paul's Snake-Run Trail. Music: Dramatic Romance - Touch the Sky. Cameras: Sean Lee, Leon Fry Edit: Leon Fry.
"Plain and Simple" Ride Giant Ride Whistler Contest Entry: I was inspired making this video with my good friend Colin, I hope it inspires others to get out and ride
Sunday - Ride Giant. Ride Whistler. No mountains. No epic sunset. No evergoing trails. No slide shots. No color correction. One slomo. Hippie music. NO DUBSTEP. No flashy racing action. Just a personal look into our usual sunday riding on our 20 metre high hill here in Holland. Feeling absolutely free for a few hours is what keeps us coming back every Sunday. Enjoy!
Lukasz Rajzer - Ride Giant. Ride Whistler: My submit for the Ride Life Gravity Edition contest. Answering the question what inspires me to ride and showing all those great people, places and memories. Downhill is a big part of my life and that's what this video is all about. Hope you enjoy it!
Kurt Shimada - Ride Giant, Ride Whistler - Ride Life Gravity edition: My name is Kurt Shimada and this video was made to show you my real inspiration to ride. Filmed by my friend Tyler Hatton. From Tyler: ''Kurt linked me to the contest even though I hadn't filmed anything in 5 years. Seeing his passion for the sport inspired me to rediscover my passion. It's my first time shooting MTB and I have a lot of respect for you all. Thanks to Kurt, Giant & Pinkbike.''
Alex's Recovery Ride Giant Ride Whistler: Two months ago, Alex, a dear friend, was riding around with some buddies testing some of his new features. Alex was hitting a 25’ kicker and got the speed right on the in-run but leant too far forward upon hitting the lip. From what friends have told me, he took one of the mightiest digs anyone's seen. I wasn’t available during the session and couldn’t video it. Enjoy the video! Rest up Alex!
Tom Anticich - Ride Life Gravity Edition: Tom Anticich, 16, shreds the Mundaring downhill trails in Perth, Australia. Song - Signs by The Sessions. Filmed and edited over 3 days by Sean Lee, check out

Ride Life Gravity Edition - Supermarket Bike: Filipe Perestrelo, the supermarket bike rider gives us the brief story about his passion for this sport and the dream of, one day, owning a downhill specific bike. During filming for the contest Filipe nearly broke his neck and left the frame in three. Filmed by: Miguel Freitas at Madeira Island, Portugal.
The Cabin | Ride Life Gravity Edition: The three things that inspire me to ride are: family, friends, and freedom. This video shows all these things. Watch the video to see 20 foot drop ins, pumptrack shredding, and more. Thanks to my parents and Oak Bay Bikes/Lavan. I am 13 years old.
Jeronimo Paez - 14 years old. Ride Giant Ride Whistler: My dream is to go to Whistler and ride with Danny Hart!
Ride Life Theo Erlangsen: Our entry for the Ride Giant Ride Whistler Competition. All film equipment is home built. We have put a huge amount of effort into this video as going to Whistler has been a dream for us for 4 years. The song is: Blue Jeans by Lana Del Ray (Count Ninjula Remix). Video by
Break Line Media.
Ride Giant. Ride Whistler. "Ladies Do It Best" People say they mountain bike for many different reasons. A few even ride for love of the sport. I mountain bike for myself. I ride because when I'm in the saddle, the world drops away & I find my rhythm. I ride because sometimes, the only thing that makes sense in the world is the connection of rubber to dirt & rock. I ride to find my truth, to find myself and to find peace. I ride for me.
What was your favourite? Who will win? Who should win?
Not only that, but I can relate to Philipe's video. 3 years ago I started bumbling about on a supermarket bike before taking a year off from riding. I think we all started on one. Now we scoff at anything under 1k deeming it incapable of even jumping off a street curb.
The whole; "So THIS is what a bike feels like!"
I hope to see more about him.
This is what I think they should do. Make Filipe the Grand Prize winner winning a full Glory. Then they should take another video etc either Josh Lane or the Luca Lucas experience and give them some other prize.
@Elbs can you link that post? I got some parts that I'd be willing to send to him. Anyone thought of doing a kickstarter promo for him?
Great riding from all of you, especially Kurt Shimada! But still, Supermarket bike dude..... NEEDS.........THIS..............BIKE!
'' Thats a quote to PINKBIKE on BEHALF... You have neg propped my comment supporting a person who has nothing who clearly loves the sport.. Community of pinkbike once again showing how bad it is now !
This contest has nothing to do with it. Sure, lots of people deserve new rides, but lots of people haven't created their own cheering section as Filipe has done. It is very rare for the right thing to be the popular thing as this is. Send it! Make a commercial! Please the boss! Please the community!
What could be more inspiring than Felipe's story?
The shot and Edit means nothing without the heart and soul of content....Just sayin'!
Give it to Felipe!
If Filipe wins, all of the kids who dream about a proper DH/FR bike will get their hopes high and will keep riding. Thats what really matters.
R.I.P. Supermarket bike.
i also liked Kurt Shimada's vid and also RG Productions' work and the "The Luca Lucas Experience" ...props to u!
They all deserve a bike for sure, but right from the heart...If I wasn't being kept racer poor by my own Son I would buy Felipe a new bike myself. If he doesn't win the trip to Crankworks he surely deserves a new bike...And a few set of skins .
Peace out!
