UXC II Round One Voting Began July 1

Two months ago, on the hunt for riders worthy to represent Race Face in the 2006 TransRockies XC mountain bike race, Race Face put out the call for riders with chain grease and fork oil in their blood, the unsung heroes of the singletrack, and they have answered.

Now, it’s up to the online mountain bike community to choose which two teams will represent Race Face in one of the most grueling marathon mountain bike races in the world – with all expenses paid. Rider videos and bios of the first four teams are now online at www.raceface.com, and the first round of voting has begun. Each team has its own unique story, and each its own inspiration. For the West Vancouver, BC, father and daughter team of John and Calindy Ramsden, Team Dark Horse Racing, it’s the bond of blood and the desire to share a unique life experience that motivates them to cross some of the most rugged terrain in North America on a mountain bike.

Eric Tremblay and Daniel Dube make up Team Suguenay. These guys are long time adventure racing partners from Chicoutimi, Quebec and have made the promise to do everything in their power to complete and be competitive in this years TransRockies. They also plan on bringing some much needed French flair to the UXC II with their exuberant personalities.

Boise, Idaho’s Jon Gould and Davey Moore of Team Tamarack Race Face bring a long history of XC and endurance race experience; they are mentally and physically prepared to traverse the grand landscape of the Trans Rockies. They are a real threat in the 80+ division and have a strong chance to win their category.

Bonded by similar medical conditions Robert Hill and John O’Shaughnessy, of Vancouver and Victoria, BC form Team I.D.E.A.S (Inflammatory Bowel Disease Education and Awareness Society), plan to ride to raise awareness for people who suffer from Crohns disease. Robert was diagnosed with Crohns disease at the age of 23, while John survived a battle with cancer at the age of 8 months and both of them are an inspiration to us all. Now they are prepared for their next life challenge, the Trans Rockies

Online community members will have one week to submit their vote. The winning team will be the first of two teams who will represent Race Face at the 2006 TransRockies. Next week, we’ll post another four videos and once again, our online community will be given the chance to select our second team.

Race Face’s Ultimate XC Challenge II is an online, peer-judged contest, in a format similar to Race Face’s wildly successful Ultimate Freeride Challenge (UFC). The UXC II will result in Race Face sending two teams of two riders to compete in the 2005 TransRockies, with all expenses paid – between flights, accommodations, components, clothing, team support and entry fees to the contest, value to the winners is over $10,000 per team!

Winners of the Ultimate XC Challenge II will be announced on July 15, giving the winners a few extra weeks to train and rest for the Trans Rockies.

In the weeks leading up to the TransRockies and throughout the seven day, 373 mile race, visitors to the Race Face website will be able to learn more about the teams and follow their progress through daily updates from Race Face support teams.
