Pinkbike's 35 Most Viewed Videos of 2013

Pinkbike's Video of the Day (VOD) feature debuted on September 29, 2007. The very first VOD features Derek Lahr, of Lahr Cycles, describing the infinitely variable transmission of his Lahr freeride bike. The video is a product of its time: the camera work is a little shaky and the footage was shot in 480p, the same resolution as a VHS tape. In 2013 we're saturated with 1080p motion pictures from cameras on our helmets and in our phones. DSLRs like the Canon 5D Mark II have made it possible for almost anyone to achieve a Hollywood-esque shallow depth of field in their images. But what about the content? As cameras have decreased in physical size and sticker price they've also made it easier for more people than ever to call themselves filmmakers. This democratization of technology gives us more videos than ever before but also more crap to filter through. Whether filmed with a $300 GoPro or a $30,000 Red Epic, these films showcase mountain biking as art. We have no doubt you'll be seeing some of these films again in Pinkbike's Video of the Year contest.
