As we celebrate 25 years of Hans Rey's career this week, what better time to run his classic trials-fest: Level Vibes. In honesty, I'm running on old-fashioned, steam-powered internet right now, so haven't been able to watch this little gem for more than a few juddery seconds. It definitely opens with some smooth jazz and is surely packed full of Zaskar-based trials action and good, old-fashioned German humour. Part two also opens with a pretty girl in a bikini, and what more can you ask for on a Sunday? Enjoy! Hopefully next week the server fire which took out my internet connection will have been sorted and I can resume normal service of being condescending about Canadians throwing themselves off cliffs.
I am still riding a 1992 GT Zaskar frame with the adjustable trail fork. These bikes are awsome. The only other bike I wanted more as a kid was the Xizang.
I was fortunate enough to see Hans Rey do several demonstrations at The Edmonton Sportsman Show, back around the same time as this vid was made. The local GT dealers sponsored him to come. I wonder if this had any influence on my next bike being a GT?? (which BTW, I STILL HAVE
AWESOME! I sent Matt a PM with these video links the other week. Great to see this classic posted up, this was THE film that got me into biking and at the time "trials riding" which as we know progressed into what we have today with modern riding.
Such a timeless move at 1 min 52ish secs. There was another early vid with him in which I can't remember the name of, but at one point he's in his house, and he gets on his bike and drops into a steep trail which headed straight down onto the beach, which I thought was totally rad when I was a kid.
