Monster Energy Specialized Sam Hill Injured, Out For MSA

Jun 27, 2011
by Tyler Maine
Wildomar, CA- Team Monster Energy Specialized rider Sam Hill was injured this weekend while training back home in preparation for the upcoming World Cup rounds. Initial observation is that he’s re-aggravated his shoulder injury sustained at Fort William during the 2010 season, but Sam will undergo an MRI first thing this week to get a proper diagnosis. At this time, it looks certain that Sam will miss the Mont Saint Anne and possibly Windham World Cup rounds.

News of his injury comes with personal disappointment for Sam at a time when he was looking forward to turning his series around. “We place a high value on his contribution to the program, wish him well and hope to see him back on the bike soon” said team manager Sean Heimdal

We’d like to thank the following companies for their continued support: Monster Energy, Specialized Bicycles, Mad Catz, SRAM, Truvativ, Rock Shox, Avid, DT Swiss, SDG, Renthal, Troy Lee Designs, Contour Cameras, Maxima, Cane Creek, e-thirteen, Five Ten, Alligator, Obtainium, Freestyle, Kicker, KMC.

Monster Energy supports the scene. Be it MTB, trials, boardercross, MX, SX, surfing, BMX, go-karts, pit bikes, mountain bikes, PWC racing, off road, rally, insane distance jumping, MotoGP, road racing, supermoto, FMX, skate, rock crawling, wake, surf, ski – name it – seems athletes and bands are rockin' Monster Energy more than anything these days. www.monsterenergy.com

Dude, 60% of the article is not about Sam, but about his sponsors!
I was looking for Sam's injuries info, not Monster Energy info!

 Agreed ;/

Even Sam can't ride without his sponsors. I think it's a great thing that sponsors stick with their athletes even when they are injured for a long time. That's how it should be, not only with a big gun like Sam. He's not able to promote them as much as he use to do probably, so good thing they where named here. Heal up well Sam.
  • 5 8
To start, Sam can ridewithoutsponsers, he just wouldn'tget as much money (only prize money), and secondly, his sponsers still get promoted, infact they have just got a articleall about themselfs because of his injury. So maybe he can't win his races, buthe's still a hero, and it's not like people forget who him and his sponsers are, just because he's missing two world cups. All riders get injured, and if the sponsers just ditched them when they did, nobody would be on a team fora full season. I don't see it amazing that his sponsers have stuck with him, they did last year with no fuss so why not this year?

Dude - riding without sponsors? You know the costs of riding around the world with a professional mechanic? The baggage fees alone would kill you.
  • 2 1
Riding without sponsors is impossible, unless you have a lot of money. I agree that they can put some ads on Sam's page, but something like: Sam is sponsored by: etc...
Not half an article about drinking monster...

"Monster Energy supports the scene." They do anything else for the sport other than sponsoring riders? Honest question here. I mean, you might consider it enough already... and it's nice if you're one of those riders... but I call that marketing more than "supporting the scene". I really don't like energy drinks, whatever brand it is but I feel like redbull is actually the only one investing into the sport with those crazy events instead of just paying for ad space on riders.
  • 2 0
Monster actually sponsors many bike events. Kona White style for example.
  • 1 0
What I meant is that their claim seems to be empty. They rent ad space at events and on riders to get publicity, hoping to get more market shares. It's ok, it's called marketing and I have nothing against that. My point is that unless i'm wrong, I haven't seen them go out of their way like redbull does to actually create events and give massive visibility to sports that are often unknown by the general public. One might argue that redbull also does it as marketing stunts but as far as I'm concerned, I find it nice that the sports get something from it by pushing it's limits even further. THAT is supporting a scene.
  • 1 0
PLCO7. Red Bull is doing a great job your right about that, even small events and projects they sponsor. Monster focusses more on organizing sick parties and stuff I guess, but they still do a good job for the scene. Not only Monster wants to grow... the sport wants to grow and everyone tries to benefit from that. And that's just fine as long it's all in balance if you know what I trying to say. Cheers.

People start a business to make money. I have no problem with that. It's cool they help out events and riders with sponsorships and we're all thankful but they aren't fooling me when they disguise marketing as philanthropy.
  • 1 0
Your argument is a bit silly. The main differance between them and redbull is redbull events share their brand name, monsters usually not. It is not the redbull guys who build rampage or think of it, they just sponsor it.
If monster contracts included a name clause and you had a monster white style you would think they go out of their way and support the community? Dude did Kokanee create crankworx? Ive actualy heard there were some dick moves at monster some time ago but in case of what you are talking about redbull simply dishes out more money as they have more money.
  • 1 0
Correct me if I'm wrong but I used to speedboard and we had a race called top challenge in montreal and the organizers needed more sponsors as the sport is/was not very known. They told me they checked with redbull but it didn't happen since they just don't spend money to have their name on an event. They create it and run it themselves from A to Z or at least are largely involved into the process or it just doesn't happen. That's what I heard/read for various other events too. Since everything was already organized they ended up having bud light spend money to stamp their name on the event. While it was nice from bud light, I'd call this buying visibility more than "supporting the scene".

I know of certain red bull events that didn't go that way. i wonder what they meant by full controll.

sick rider, hope he's back on it ASAP Smile even if there was a massive monster ad on this page

So I check back an hour later and it seems a whole paragraph telling me to drink every single type of monster made has been removed? That should never have been put up, glad someone from pinkbike had the sense to edit this "injury report"/press release. Oh yeah and .... heal up Sam!

  • 2 2
Wrong! The article was written by Tyler Maine.
  • 8 1
Come on monster, try spending a little less time promoting yourself in an injury report next time for fucks sake
  • 8 1
He'll get back soon, mans a god damn champ
  • 1 0
 True that.
  • 2 0
Id actually want Sam to do a proper long recovery and some training instead of rushing it and injuring himself again.
  • 1 0
I agree. Dan Atherton was talking about that, saying that if you get back into it too soon then it's easy to re-injure yourself.
  • 1 0
maybe he'll come back swingin' at worlds like he did last year!

so its same as last year then miss most the season and come back to win the champs
  • 3 0
Sam will be so pissed that he will win worlds champs 5 sec up!!! just like before!! heal up Sam!!
  • 1 0
@shishka, somehow I think it would be in his contract to have to ride all rounds of the world cup, I highly doubt Specialized and his sponsors would let him sit them out if he could ride easily with no injury.
  • 1 1
Ya I never heard of a pro athlete doing anything shady. They always follow all the rules and obey all contracts. This really is a perfect world and you are like the perfect stranger balkie bartakamouse.
  • 1 1
What argument, lol you have wallabe for brains down there. I made one comment about if he really hurt or not and you did a backflip and wet your pants. Are you sam hill? Who else would care this much about such trivial nonsense? Either way I discovered how easy it is to upset you guys, really have to toughen up. Giving dhers a bad name acting like bitches and shit. I expect roadies to cluck like this you guys get your feathers ruffled sooooo easy, its really too easy.
