Not seeing the "near disco"... Just like you tell the officer when he pulls you over for DUI. Hey all I have to do is stay between these two white lines.
@Aar0nW: yeah weird how Warner and Claudio didn't see Brosnan. Must have been looking at their notes. What did they say in the german and french commentary ?
yes they miss a lot. Rider goes through, tear off mid jump. Commentary about how it’s raining. Literally two riders later “whoa did you see that tear off midair!”
@thewasp: indeed. Blind to the fact that Gee, Remi or Bernard were untouchable too but why mention it when you can overhype? RedBull is getting similar to your averrage tv show.
@Aar0nW: brosnan and gwin both started doing this a few years back on specialized. i first saw them do it at fort william where they were basically rolling the jumps
@dovahkiin13: Maybe there's another reason. The camera op had a tighter shot on Brosnan so we couldn't see the bottom of his wheels as well, thus we couldn't enjoy the precision of what was actually happening. The op was also likely expecting him to scrub it off the top like the 30 people before him. Gwin's shot was looser, or at least lower.
I think he expected more pop and it would have carried him further left. Based on the couple of other front wheel mishaps in that run. Imo. Obviously an insanely awesome rider but that much risk in a WC run..? Brosnan move it the one he was looking for I think
Very cool but nothing new. Go to any Southern California motocross track on a pro practice day and lines like that are burned into every jump on the track. This has to be something he’s learned from spending a lot of time on a motorcycle riding with fast guys.
I commented down below but Ryan Hughes came out to my home track in the 90s & did the same thing. People were blown away & lined up to watch him do it lap after lap.
He actually said it was an old moto move in his interview with Sven Martin (over on Vital). Never looks anything but in control though.. gonna go look for Troy’s one now!
@dovahkiin13: He did indeed! As did many others, but only Gwin gets the 'love' for what ever reason? Don't get me wrong it was pretty slick, but he wasn't the only 1 on the mountain...
@m1dg3t: not one of those guys went as low or as right as Gwin did, and Brosnan did something similar but again it doesn’t look as low (might be the camera angle though)
So this must mean all those XC racers have been scrubbin masters for years now! Congrats Aaron that was saucy! I think I watched that clip 10 times so far
BS would have done it off the top of the jump. Nr would have double back flipped it and Josh bender would have tried to double it to the next jump. Lol
@freeridejerk888: I can't find a video - unfortunately Red Bull have removed the full replay of the 2016 Leogang finals - but here's a screenshot someone took from the live broadcast. If only the next few frames were available, as the way he got fully sideways and kept so low (while at warp speed too) was pretty amazing.
Are we all getting a little too excited at watching someone rude off the side of a jump... this used to be common on the motoway jumps at Fort William until they rebuilt the lips to stop it happening and tape off the "miss the feature" line. #strava (thanks for the negative props in advance).
Every expert racer or coach will tell you : you have to keep jumps as low as possible to be fast ! Gwin rear wheel was lower than the jump he scrubed. It's a new move, the next generation of scrub it's an UNDERSCRUB ! Now kid you have yo train and learn the ultimate technic, let's jump lower than the jump !!!
I raced moto growing up in the 90's. One time Ryan Hughes came to race my home track (he didn't live too far). He did the same thing on the finish table, almost clipping the announcers box. it was wild, people lined up to see him to it lap after lap.
Racing all comes down to tactics he was in the tape and going faster than a stabbed rat good enough for me and any other race find your line or find a faster one while racing
Typical Motocross move, keeping low and power to the ground helps you to gain or make up valuable positions during a tight race. It doesn't work on all jumps though. Sweet move just the same.
"Saving a near disqualification, or redefining the tactic? You decide." Hmm, might've been saving himself there, but whatever it was was completely intentional. Absolutely masterful. Just watch the way he controls that with his upper/lower body.
Can we dub this "Buffing"....Gwin Buff" , "tyre buff" , "jump buffing","side buffing" etc....? Its not technically a "scrub" and it sort looks like he's buffing the tyre on the jump...
When he knows, he don't have great run just make sure you are down with style. too bad for him and the rest elite riders cant make great run at la bresse. Congrats for Maes, he did magic!
That was pure magic, i actually thought my screen had some source of distortion. Lets really appreciate this man, Gwin is the Pele of mountain biking or Michael Jordan.
Bmx all the way... cool but not big deal ..... then you wonder why nowadays kids, can’t handle a bike and need 29er or a plus bike- if not an ebaike, but then you are hopeless.
@freeridejerk888: for clueless kids like you that never seen a bmx or mx video? Two/three other riders did the same excat thing as gein in the race-vergier and his old team mate.
I cant help but think he was making the best of a bad job and it wasn't intentional ,why was this any faster ? Gwin didn't look that comfortable on the big wheels and rode the rest of the track a bit stiff , Not hating here I always enjoy Gwins race runs
He landed further up the landing so rolling down more of the landing generates more speed. Also he didn't go as high. Going up and down is distance and a shorter track is faster
Fake News! “Saving a near disqualification”? F*#king plz... New bike coming back from injury with conditions that don’t normally favor... Gwin doesn’t have to win to earn his paycheck he has to make people want to ride the equipment he rides. Well done! No disrespect to everyone else but really I have a lot less interest when he’s not racing.
I am just an average dude and have had the opportunity to chat with him on the shuttle at bootleg canyon. My impression is that he is a really down to earth, humble guy with a good sense of humor. Just because someone isn't trying to be the class clown doesn't mean they "have the personality of a block wood". If you had the responsibility that has been entrusted to him by the brands that rely on him to help develop and promote their products you might better understand why he acts so professional.
@src248: lol ... I didn't expect that much butthurt from them ... imagine if I said what I really think that he is an arrogant prick and always has been and always will be.

Yup. Seems to often apply.
It even looked cleaner
What did I just see?

Very impressive, but more showboating that purposeful?? ????
