Those are definitely too many tags on the front page for this article.
  • 85 6
 These tags are really annoying.
  • 11 5
I think there needs to be moar.
  • 28 20
I don't get all the hate the tags are getting. Some people claim they're distracting. Like what do you need to focus on when viewing the front page? They actually contain more relevant information (to help you decide on whether or not to click and read the article) than the title and the picture. I don't like animated ads when reading an article (but I've set my browser to not play them, so that's easy) but for the main page the tags are just fine for me. The colors have a meaning to them (green for athletes/people, blue for brands etc) so I don't like to see that go away either.
  • 11 9
@vinay: Me either... finding them quite useful. People (especially the pinkbike comment section) hate change.
  • 13 2
@vinay: They're functional, but from a design perspective it makes the screen busy with so many colors. 22 tags on this article. we don't need to tag every mentioned rider. I don't see the functional benefit on home page, but having them embedded in the article as a tag where the word appears in text may be more user friendly and allow better for the use case where a user is reading, sees a topic and wants to drill in further.
  • 2 0
These tags are making me thirsty!
  • 76 4
Can I propose the BOA tool strap for the "over-engineered product of the year" award?
  • 3 1
I have a love hate relationship with BOA on my snowboard boots but in this application it just doesn't make sense to me.
  • 3 3
rock strike = stuck to the bike or falls off. This is just dumb, especially for a pro enduro racer where quick easy access to a tube/tools can be the difference between winning or out of the race.
  • 7 3
@justwan-naride maybe is over engineered but a neat idea, safe and will last longer than a velcro in mud and dust
  • 6 0
 Voile ftw
  • 2 0
A loop connection that constricts versus a wrap-around velcro makes prefect sense on all these bikes with very little estate. I think the straps are all stupid and prefer a camelbak as it provides storage AND protection.
  • 1 0
@millsr4: elaborate on that snowboard boot situation? Im so torn as to take the boa plunge with snowboard boots. I bought boa for my wading boots to fish in and will never go back to laces...
  • 2 0
@pargolf8: They tend to loosen up somewhat regularly and they are also easy to over tighten. I'm a pretty aggressive snowboarder so I don't know if it is all the stress I'm putting in while riding but I usually have to tighten them up every few runs. That being said I've always had issues with keeping snowboard boots tight, even with traditional laces, so I do like the BOA system for the simple fact that I can tighten them back up so quickly.
  • 1 0
@millsr4: gotcha. Yeah my biggest concern is how stiff snowboard boots are. Compared to anything else ive had in boa. So do you think you will re buy boa again? Im a salomon fanboy when it comes to boots for sure
  • 3 0
@pargolf8: Oh well I may not be too much help to you because I like really stiff boots... I ride the stiffest in the market and I'm on my second pair, the Ride Insanos. I would definitely buy Boa for outer laces but never the inner, I've had issues with pressure points with the Boas that tighten the liner. I had a pair of Solomons a while back but i'm now on my third pair of Ride boots and they just fit me really well.

Considering the suspension spec on the Scott Ransoms - I would like to see a Pinkbike long term test comparison of alternative suspension brands fitted on a test-mule, for example SR Suntour, MRP, Manitou, Cane Creek and with Fox or Rock Shox as reference. How far off are the less known alternatives in terms of performance and reliability etc?
  • 2 0
From my experience with my MRP Ribbon vs previous Rockshox and Fox forks. Fox and Rockshox are very good at marketing, have a huge marketing budget and sponsor a very large number or riders. Are they better? It's very subjective... are the worse? No.
  • 1 2
I really want to try the Manitou Ribbon coil fork, ticks a lot of the boxes for me. I got talked out of it because of the spare parts support here in BC doesn't exist apparently. Fox and RS might have the market share (and be the evil empires) but they also have the parts backup/warranty support if things do go awry.
And yes, everyone has a tale to tell about how bad *insert brand name here* parts/warranty support is in their experience but on the whole, the two Big S companies have it sorted.
  • 4 0
@Blackers: did you call MRP and ask?
  • 2 0
i have the Suntour suspension shown on the bike shown. @SRSuntour has excellent service with the issues I have encountered with the TriAir which are related to a production run. As I have worked in the tech service industry for nearly 20 years, I understand that all products go through this. None are exempt.
The actual suspension performance really leaves nothing to be desired except that I have Onyx hubs and a flawless drivetrain- so the hydro-hissing is noticeable.
  • 2 0
@Blackers: SRAM offers great service. Fox is a joke. Most techs that work with them will attest.
  • 2 0
@Blackers: Suspension Werx in North Vancouver can service and I'm pretty sure you can ship parts from MRP's site to Canada (based on website, I live in CO so idk). Ribbon Coil is legit. The Ramp Control with Coil works great for me.
  • 3 0
@Blackers: MRP has the best warranty/customer service/back-up in the biz. Call them up, talk to someone on the second ring and they stand behind their product and just get it done. Plus lots of spare parts available in their online store.
  • 1 0
@yzedf: I took the advice of the LBS, perhaps I should have investigated further!
  • 1 0
@Blackers: sometimes they just take the easy way out. Depends on the shop and the people running it.
  • 14 1
Are those chunky rubber chainstay protectors (on Iago Garay's bike) available aftermarket?
  • 2 0
Was wondering the same thing. Pretty sure that I have seen them on a couple of different bike brands too.
  • 5 0
It’s standard on the MT. Can also be bought separately from SC. Cut it down and it works on the nomad.
  • 3 0
I'm thinking you could just glue a cut up automotive gear belt to the chainstay. Might try it.
  • 2 0
@acali: I feel ya on that...but belts are quite hard. I'd guess they wouldn't dampen sound much in this case. How about cutting a strip from rubber floor mats? especially the 'winter' ones.....heck, I might even do that...haha
  • 14 1
Gotta say that rocky is one good looking bike
  • 9 0
I just can't understand how Isabeau can ride a 29er. I met her in person and she is TINY!
  • 5 2
Is she as cute in person as she is in pictures?
  • 3 0
@panzer103: she always reminds me of hitgirl from kicka$$
  • 2 0
True. I met her too, she's pretty short, like 5ft1, max.
  • 9 0
The kona's bright red is magnificent
  • 16 8
That Cube bike is an ugly MF. Color theme doesn't work.
  • 11 3
Seriously? I think it looks fine. There is also room for a bottle and it even has one or two wheelsizes.
  • 2 1
Gotta do something to match that ugly FOX orange
  • 10 3
the cube is a very ugly bike...sorry
  • 6 1
We can tell which riders are higher up the pecking order in terms of dibs on the new SRAM stuff.
  • 8 2
The color scheme on the cube is horrible
  • 5 1
Where i get this BOA frame strap? Occam does only result in an Orbea bike Big Grin

Isabeau's Carbine looks huge beside her with this high stack and high rise bar!
  • 3 1
Yep, I'll take 2. please provide a link to where i can buy them
  • 2 0
Occam Designs new brand available probably soon ! Cheers
  • 2 0
I have been puzzling what strap that was for a while!
  • 1 0
The website is live! Check it out here: www.occamdesigns.com
  • 2 0
So these guy and girls on these newly released one up bars, how does that work? They were sponsored by another company before, do one up just offer them more money/ bars/ favours if they use their bars instead?

not having a go, just wondering the ins and outs of pro riding/sponsors
  • 1 0
Maybe they have component choices for each event. Kona does not spec WAO rims on their bikes yet their rider is on them. I think at this level they most have a larger primary sponsor. And then a group of smaller sponsors that allow riders to fine tune their bikes.
  • 1 0
@cheetamike: konas graity team are all on we are one this year
  • 5 3
Drool bikes! That Scott Ransom has my name on it I hope. Going to pursue when back home next week. Has anyone tried a 180mm triple Crown on one yet, been looking but found none.
  • 4 0
Its just a matter of time rockshox tries a light boxxer
  • 4 1
 Yeah I'm on 180mm Boxxers.
I bent 2 single crown CSU's and 1 set of lowers in the last 12 months. Then I realised that 180 Boxxers have similar axle to crown height as 160mm single crowns, they cost about the same and only weigh about 450g more, so f*ck it, I got them.
Boxxer Selects have a proper charger bladder damper now too and the air spring is (finally) a match for coil and more tunable.
You don't realise just how flexy single crowns are until you swap them for triples on the same bike. Massive difference and loads more grip. Now I can actually use the front brake
  • 2 2
@IllestT: Great stuff and completely agree. As I've done some insanity move's on single crowns would love to try out a 170x180 on some steep mega speed trails. Options are a plenty these days.
  • 3 1
By the way, you can't buy Boxxers at 180mm travel, but it's a 15 minute job to fit the £40 travel plunger.
Also, ignore the early spec listings for 2019 Boxxers - they're all wrong, either because RS changed their mind or the journalists were misinformed.
For example, Boxxer Selects DO have a Charger bladder damper (it just doesn't have HSC adjuster) and the different offsets are in the crown, not the lowers
  • 2 0
@IllestT: Oh ya been chopping a custom sizing forks for many years. Looking at 180 boxer for th and 160 for up and down hick sessions. Used to Avalanche DH forks so a boxxer is like a pike to me. Craig at avalanche will set up anything, 184mm if that makes your bike feel tight.
  • 4 0
Mojo rising makes Fox 36 dual crown with 180mm of travel or you could get a reduced travel 40 instead. I have seen people in Champery running a fox40 on their Ransom.
  • 2 0
@SintraFreeride: Honestly the minute I saw the specs on the Ransom immediately was thinking DH mode and enduro options. Great to hear riders are ripping on that, specially at Champery!!!!!
  • 6 1
 @IllestT: Look at mrp's Bartlett
  • 2 1
@tp12: yeah I did consider the Bartlett and nothing against MRP, but there just isn't the aftersales back up or abundance of spares
  • 7 0
@IllestT: I'd argue that MRPs after sales support is far superior to that of RS
  • 1 0
 delete
  • 6 0
@IllestT: I think you have that wrong... as a Ribbon owner I can tell you from experience that MRP's aftersales back up and spares availability is far, far better than RS or Fox. Call them right now and an engineer will pick up the phone and happily chat about anything you want to talk about.

Their suspension small parts are readily available and you can even order them online from the site here - mrpbike.com/collections/suspension/SERVICE-PARTS?page=1
  • 1 0
Luckily never had to try MRP's service but RS literally gave me a new read shock and pump free everything when old one had an issue. Pretty hard to beat free.
  • 2 0
@islandforlife: They offered to stay on the phone with me while I changed the travel in my Ribbon. Leading up to the travel change I kept calling them to ask dumbass questions over and over and they were more than happy to answer and help me through it.

I lost the LSC/HSC knob on my Hazzard and the next day they had shipped me new knobs, no charge or questions asked.

Will I switch to RS or Fox, or anything else? Hell no. At least not for a long while.
  • 4 0
 are there triple crown forks?
  • 1 0
@islandforlife: mmm, that might be the case in Canada and the US, but in the UK I have only ever seen maybe 2 sets of MRP forks on the trails - ever. I'm not willing to be test guinea pig
  • 1 0
@IllestT: ahh, yes, you're in the uk... which might obviously make things a little tougher. I'd still reach out, give them a call and ask them about parts/service/etc in the uk... see what they have to say.
  • 5 3
These michelin tires keep popping up on more and more sponsored rider bikes, but I have yet to see them anywhere in the wild. Maybe people would buy them if they weren't so terribly looking.
  • 6 1
they grow on you I guess...I would buy the wilds in DH casing at any moment
  • 4 1
Michelin Enduro range has been available for a year now, they're quite common in France in races. These are the "to be released" DH tires.
  • 4 1
The thing that gets me is how terrible their website is. You can't see a good picture of the treads.
  • 2 2
They're prototype, not available yet. I'll buy them even if they're yellow, once they're available.
  • 4 0
If I could figure out the website, maybe I’d take a chance at buying them.

It doesn’t help that I’ve never seen them in a shop or on anybody’s bike.
  • 2 0
 Michelin is always wild.
  • 1 0
Chain reaction has them for sale. Unfortunately the 2.6s have been out of stock forever(rear too) . Which I'm assuming is equivalent to the 2.5 & 2.4 maxxis I run. They gave me a free pair of riding socks at sea otter so I feel obligated to replace my sealant leaking dhf and dhr with em but alas.

MICHELIN MAAAAAAAAN
  • 1 0
I'm not sure if it's just a new sticker set for the existing Wild Enduro (which the tread looks like), as opposed to something new. Those tyres have been on A LOT of bikes at the enduro races I've done this year. I really rate them. Loads of grip, lots of sidewall support, not punctured them yet, wear is much better than Maxxis 3c. Bit heavy and draggy, mind.
  • 1 0
@mountainsofsussex: I just ordered the Wild Enduros from CRC, and I'm a little miffed that I only see the DH22 and Wild (DH casing) on the pro male enduro bikes. I'm coming from Maxxis Double Down DHFs, and many of the Maxxis racers are running the DD casing. What's the deal here, Michelin? You already offer the Wild AM.
  • 1 0
They look sick and aren't available to the public yet.
  • 1 0
@thesharkman: Me too - idiots downvoting you -smh
  • 1 0
@spankthewan: Not the same tire. Wild Enduros are good tires. however. I spoke to Michelin at Sea Otter. See my profile for a up close pic of DH22 and DH34 treads.
  • 1 0
the factory supplied ones (WILD Enduro 2.4) on a nukeproof mega aren't yellow. at least in the pics. waiting for my 2019 to get delivered.
  • 1 0
@endlessblockades: Thanks, but I think you missed my point. Michelin has a tire with "Enduro" in the name, but all of their riders are riding DH casings, unlike Maxxis.
  • 1 0
@spankthewan: sam hill rides like it is DH. Makes sense.
  • 4 0
"Bike Check" ...yet no mention of what appears to be a Works angleset for Remi.

What's the word @RockyMountainBicycles
  • 1 0
Ya good eye , I really like the 1.5deg one I put on my bike. Maybe they are experimenting with more slacker angles. What is the stock HA for that frame 66??
  • 1 0
@cheetamike: All credit goes to my buddy who showed me other photos of some RM team enduro bikes with an angleset (and ride9 chip on a BC edition). This just confirms it even more. But yea, 65.9 HTA.
  • 1 0
@velocitajano: if they put a 2deg and move the seat forward one can size up and still have similar feel.
  • 1 0
Same with Wallner's reach adjust headset on his Ripmo.
  • 3 0
So... we have tool strap with BOA closure but we cant have flat pedal shoe with BOA... Strange days these are...
  • 1 0
That red Kona is a beauty! Wish Kona sold the process in that color instead of the beige or weird greenish turquoise they offer.
  • 3 3
Like any ride I go on, Pinkbike ran in to someone with a Ripmo. I wonder if Robin tried to spend 25 minutes telling you how great it is? Probably not since he can actually ride.
  • 1 0
 YouTuber bike of the moment?
  • 2 0
 LOl what's wrong w/ ripmo?
  • 1 1
@yzedf: the kind of youtuber that makes 13 minute videos of riding their local (boring and blown out) singletrack in full armor with a soundtrack of them breathing heavily. “SO RAD GUYS”
  • 1 0
@wibblywobbly: not usually. Full timers that travel and ride all over the continent (or world in the case of bkxc).
  • 1 0
210mm dropper (size L, 6" tall), insane climbing efficiency, super light frame, low maintenance bushings. The Ripmo is overhyped, but only slightly.
  • 1 0
@cole-inman: it took a few days but my point was proven!
  • 6 3
Orange fox forks still a thing unfortunately
  • 1 0
What’s that headtube spacer between the fork and frame on Flo’s Strive all about??
  • 1 0
Maybe he is running an angle-adjust headset with external cup and painting it white so we don't notice? Would make sense considering the conservative geo of the new Strive.

Gauvin could also be running and angle-adjust headset on the aging Instinct?
  • 1 0
From the angle these shots are taken it looks like all of them ride mullet bikes.
  • 1 0
What kind of tape do they use for holding the cables together in front of the bars? Like on Florian's bike
  • 1 0
It looks like a industrial hose protector wrap , I have seen some 10mm stuff on Amazon
  • 2 0
 @showmethemountains Electrical Spiral Wrap.
  • 1 0
Any auto part store has it
  • 1 0
Where are the Occam BOA tool straps available?
  • 1 0
BTW a few of Keegan’s and Miranda pic are mixed up.
  • 1 0
Is Keegan Wright carrying a 12" tube?
  • 2 0
My wife told me size doesn't matter.... 12" is enough. Smile LOL
  • 1 0
Now thats what i'm talking about bike.
  • 2 0
 Miranda looks badass \m/
  • 5 0
If @konaworld is reading this -- maybe add that red to the bikes you sell?
  • 1 0
Love these articles , please continue this way!!!
  • 1 0
Canyon Strive is a sweet bike
  • 1 0
Scott bikes/kits looking dialed. Orbea too.
  • 1 1
 BOA SUCK....laces rule!!!Smile
  • 1 0
 Rims should be black.
  • 6 8
Please lord almighty heaven above, do not let this ridiculous dyedbro thing catch on.
  • 3 0
I kinda like it, the dia de los muertos would look good on my grey nukeproof.
