Roval Components Announces Support Our Shops Program
photo

Effective immediately, Roval Components is acting to lessen the impacts felt by local bike shops across the country as operations change in response to COVID-19. Through the Support Our Shops program, Roval is sharing profits from every full-price RovalComponents.com wheel sale with their retailers while bike shop operations are impacted.

“We’re all in this together. Bike shops are the lifeblood of cycling– as riders, we all rely on them and we can’t watch our friends experience financial stress without acting to help. Support Our Shops shares the profits from online sales, with our bike shops, providing much-needed income while their sales operations are curtailed due to social distancing measures,” says Roval Brand Manager Ben Capron.

Riders making a wheel purchase can support their favorite shop by entering the name of the shop on checkout– any authorized Roval shop in the USA is eligible to receive the funds. If no shop is selected, the dollars will go to the Roval retail partner closest to the buyer.

The Support Our Shops program is only valid for US-based Roval retail partners. Roval will be supporting this program with continuing promotion until shops nationwide are able to resume normal sales operations. See further details at RovalComponents.com

'Supply Connector' launched by a group of North Carolina organisations

Supply Connector is a new venture launched by a group of North Carolina organisations that includes the NC Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry and NC Outdoor Recreation Coalition. The platform aims to provide vital information for manufacturers who have pivoted their factories towards making PPE and other important items, whether it is locating the correct materials, regulatory information or direct connections to those who need the equipment.

The site is a 100% volunteer effort from business management firm, Good Talk, and web design agency, Status Forward, with support from the NC Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry, Growing Outdoors Partnership, North Carolina Outdoor Recreation Coalition, and Outdoor Gear Builders.

bigquotesAs manufacturers quickly recognized the widespread impact of COVID-19, they began to pivot their capabilities and use their skills, resources, and talent to help meet the needs of our heavily impacted healthcare system. By pivoting, our manufacturers have been able to increase production and retain employees while remaining open as essential businesses amidst an uncertain economic landscape. This platform allows essential providers to quickly and directly connect with skilled manufacturers to get necessary products into places of need to help protect workers on the frontlines. Amy Allison, Director of the NC Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry, a division of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina

bigquotesLike any good trail system, connectors help you navigate the landscape more quickly. With COVID-19, we don’t have time for the long way around. Our manufacturers, suppliers, and essential providers need to connect rapidly to meet the urgent needs of their workers. I am grateful for the quick collaboration with Status Forward and this group to make it happen and look forward to seeing this platform help bolster U.S. manufacturing as we ramp back up after COVID-19. But until then, it’s time to put this tool to good use. Sarah Wood, Founder of Good Talk, and Board Chair of the NC Outdoor Recreation Coalition

Ibis Makes Protective Face Shields

bigquotesWe wanted to share a new product we’ve been working on - it’s a protective face shield. These shields are essential for medical workers and first responders. They provide respiratory droplet protection and help extend the life of N95 masks. ⠀
⠀
The University of Kansas created the original open-source design. We've worked with the @SantaCruzBicycles engineering team to optimize the file. After several revisions, we’ve been able to redesign the cut files to produce twice as many shields per day! ⠀
⠀
This design has many advantages. It's light, flat packs, can be quickly disinfected, and is comfortable to wear for extended periods. To make these face shields, we are using our automated materials cutter. We use this machine for cutting the carbon fiber prepreg that goes into our Carbon 831 frames.

To help maintain our social distance and ramp up face shield production, we’ve been running split shifts. Ruben Reyes has been coming in early to start loading/unloading materials and organizing the cut files. Preston Sandusky, one of our engineers, has been taking the late shift. ⠀
⠀
After we cut the face shields, another set of employees disinfects and packages them. We are cutting between 200-250 shields a day and hope to ramp up production as needed. ⠀
⠀
Yesterday, we delivered our first batch of face shields to PPE 4 Central Coast. This local organization is coordinating shipments to first responders. If you’d like to get involved, please visit their website (link in bio) for ways you can help. They need help fabricating and distributing PPE to folks in need. They’ve also set up a GoFund Me fundraiser to help them fund this effort. Please contact them if your organization is in need of PPE.

SRAM Mask Making Project

To date, the Zipp facility has sewn nearly 2,000 masks, and cut material for almost 20,000!

bigquotesDoing what we can.

Like so many others, SRAM team members recognize that in this time of crisis, the health of the caregivers on the front lines is of the highest priority. As part of the continuing effort to battle COVID-19, we have volunteered Zipp facility team members and their capabilities in the production of personal protective equipment (PPE).

SRAM has partnered with Ascension and Community Hospitals in the Indianapolis area, they have provided us materials, and we have provided manufacturing expertise. We are currently helping to produce 2,000+ protective masks per day and have capacity for more.

SRAM will continue to reach out to more potential partners, hospitals, and care centers, and we are very proud to support this effort. For anyone interested in producing PPE for their local health care systems can contact the American Hospital Association.

Yeti Cycles Commits to Producing 20,000 PPE Shields

Joining forces to support continued shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) in Colorado, Smith and Black Diamond support Colorado mountain bike manufacturer Yeti Cycles as they shift focus to produce face shields for health care professionals fighting COVID-19 from the front lines.

Smith’s donation of 4,000 yards of goggle strap material, along with Black Diamond’s donation of 5,000 headlamp straps, will help Yeti Cycles complete 20,000 face shields being manufactured at its headquarters in Golden, Colorado. Calling on the Yeti Tribe to connect with those in need through social media efforts, the initial run of face shields had been claimed by healthcare workers and first responders across Colorado within the first 24 hours. The group is looking to source additional materials to increase shield production quantities in order to meet urgent demand.

Yeti began production of the face shields on Saturday, following an open-source shield template shared by students from the University of Wisconsin. The first delivery of finished shields to doctors, first responders and hospital workers will leave Yeti HQ this week.

bigquotesYeti typically designs products from the ground up, but in this case we wanted an efficient way to make the most effective thing. Time is critical, so we’re doing it with materials we’ve pulled together from industry friends and available through our supply chain. It’s not surprising, but everyone we contacted wanted to help and their help was critical in this coming together so quicklySteve Hoogendoorn, co-owner of Yeti Cycles

Specialized Supports Covid-19 Essential Workers
Annika Langvad has accomplished plenty this year. Today the corse bit her and put the overall just points out of reach.

Today, Specialized launched an initiative to bring safe and reliable transportation to essential workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. Specialized is giving essential workers across the United States free bikes through a crowd-sourced community referral program, and has donated bikes to Transportation Alternatives, a bicycle advocacy organization in New York, which is matching essential workers with bikes where the need is greatest.

WHAT: Bikes provide healthy, reliable, and convenient transportation while practicing safe social distancing.
WHEN: The community referral program begins April 13, 2020 and will run through April 22, 2020.
WHERE: Consumers can visit www.specialized.com/essential-transportation for more details on how to get involved nationwide.
WHY: Keeping essential workers moving is critical for our communities. The impact of COVID-19 is hard to process, and the actions we can take often feel small in comparison to the scale of the problem.

Santa Cruz Bicycles' R&D Team Uses CNC Machinery to Produce Face Shields for Local Medical Staff
photo

photo

Although Santa Cruz, California is in a shelter-in-place like most of the world, Santa Cruz Bicycles’ R&D team is at work producing face shields (PPE) for local medical staff using sheets of plastic cut using their CNC machinery typically used for cutting carbon fiber as well as 3D printers used for prototyping.

The equipment is able to make up to 20 face shield lenses every 9 minutes, yielding ~1000 shields per day. Ten days were spent evaluating designs, developing multiple prototypes and getting feedback from local healthcare professionals to ensure the end product suited their needs. 3D printers are used to make reusable and sterilizable support frames using open source CAD designs. Enough material has been procured to produce 8,000 face shields in two different designs in the next week. 75 face shields from the pilot run were delivered to the Santa Cruz County Donation Center today. The team isn’t working in isolation, this is a community effort, working with volunteers, medical professionals and other local companies to coordinate efforts into effective and rapid action to address the anticipated needs.

With a little help from everyone, we’ll get through this together and come out as an even tighter community on the other side.

If you'd like to help donate to the cause you can find the Santa Cruz Community local COVID-19 response fund info here.

Acquaroli competed in 19 UCI World Championships in total with the Italian national team, winning two European Championships (1992, 1993), two UCI World Championships (Juniors in 1993, U23 in 1996) and five Italian Championships (1992, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2005) with Team Bianchi, Full-Dynamix and Sintesi Larm.

He told the UCI: "Many people I know have died or are sick. The situation is worse than you can imagine reading in the news. But here we don't cry too much, we roll up our sleeves and give our contribution."

To win the bike, you can donate as little as $10 on his Wishraiser, here.

Acquaroli said: "I would be happy if the winner is someone who appreciates the value of that object and who understood that I donated it with my heart and for the cause. I imagine the bike hanging on a wall in the house and guests who come for dinner and ask what it is, and they can discover the story behind it. It’s nice if the winner of the bike is a simple person, who just donated only 10 euros."

Santini and Kitsbow shift clothing production to make facemasks
Performance clothing manufacturer Santanti announced this week that with the falling sales of its clothing range due to the virus it was planning to instead shift its production lines towards masks with the aim to produce 10,000 a day. The masks once produced will be given to those fighting against the spread of COVID-19.

Talking to local news outlet, BergamoNews. It, the marketing manager for Santini, Paola Santini, said: “We have made the prototype, now we are waiting for the go-ahead from the Politecnico di Milano which is testing it and from Monday 23rd of March we could put our mask into work. We have already tested the machinery and we are ready to produce ten thousand masks per day. We receive many requests, but the priority will be addressed to Bergamo and its province, because we touch the difficulties of our hospitals and how much they still work in companies with their own hands.”

Kitsbow have also decided to start making protective equipment for local first responders and medical staff. They have apparently already had an order for 26,000 units that will ship on Monday. Read more on Bicycle Retailer, here.

RGT Cycling indoor training app has been made free to users

With some parts of the world on full lockdown and others asking to limit any potentially dangerous activities more riders have been looking towards indoor training apps to get in some miles. While Zwift has offered up some added events, RGT Cycling has decided to make their platforms completely free to users. The programs, which normally cost £12.99 (per month), will now be available to everyone at no charge for the time being as they want to encourage people to stay indoors and not put themselves in a situation where they might add to the strain of healthcare services.

Cycling Industry News reported earlier this week that with the spread of COVID-19 and the worries over using public transport they have found that bike shops have been seeing a rise in sales.

Energise e-Bikes has found that they are selling to people who they would not normally serve with a spike in sales at weekends. They told Cycling Industry News: “We did have a spike on the weekend sales-wise, particularly in the 30 to 40-year-old commuter demographic, which we don’t see that often.

Tring Motion’s David Barnett, hasn't found quite the same kind of sales as Energise but they have seen more people coming to have repairs on their bikes: “Mine has been mainly repairs, activity has increased despite my website being offline for a few days. I have had an uptick on lower priced units, for sure.”

Bicycle Retailer has also reported that New York has seen a rise in sales with New York city bridge counters seeing increased traffic and Citi Bike share system finding a usage increase of over 50%.

In the same report, it mentions that Bicycle Habitat which has three locations in the city has found increases of over 75% in their shops since the outbreak of COVID-19. Charlie McCorkell, owner of Bicycle Habitat told Bicycle Retailer: “We’ve been pretty busy; we’re an important part of the whole system right now and we’re doing our best to keep it going.

“We’re seeing sales in two categories: the transportation category and the other is what I call ‘normalizing your children’s experience in a time of crisis.’ We’re selling a lot of kids bikes. I think parents are trying to give kids a good experience as opposed to everything sucks out there.”

Trash Free Trails announce selfless isolation initiative with the DIY spring trail clean
Trash Free Trails were set to kick off their Spring Trail Clean tour next month, which would have seen them head to 10 locations across the UK to clean up the trails from plastic waste left behind by trail users. But with the spread of the virus and government restrictions, the plans could not go ahead but that does not mean that trails can't be cleaned. To keep their idea going, they have announced 'Selfless Isolation', which involves anyone interested to head out to their local trails and pick up any rubbish that you can find. Even if we can't have as much fun on our bikes at the moment we can at least make sure that the places we ride stay clean and healthy for when we can return to the trails.

bigquotesAt Trash Free Trails, we strongly believe that now, more than ever, we have a responsibility to provide people with ways to stay connected with each other and with nature. Over the coming weeks, it will also be vital that we all find ways to feel purposeful over this worrisome period — to feel like we have achieved something significant. As we have seen so many times, the simple action of removing a handful of plastic pollution from the places we love can be an incredibly powerful and symbolic act.

So we're not going to cancel or postpone the Spring Trail Clean Tour. Nope, we're just going to change things up a little. We’ve decided to overhaul our recently announced Spring Trail Clean Tour, and call for some 'selfLESS isolation'!
Trash Free Trails

photo

bigquotesHere's the plan:

- We were really hoping that up to 1000 people would join us in giant, glorious groups of trail loving trash hunters, but that's going to have to wait a while.

- But just as we were settling in for a little sulk we realised that we don't have to be together to work TOGETHER to #protectwhatwelove.

- Idea We're going to hijack the #selflisolation & #socialdistancing hashtags of doom for GOOD by asking thousands of you to do your own #selfLESSisolation #DIYTrailClean whenever you are able to escape into our wild and beautiful places.

- Now this is the key. Every individual positive action makes a difference. But, when we share and connect these incredible individual actions, something truly awesome happens. So, please shout it from the hilltops! Use social media to connect our dots and create a giant, noisy network of action!

As outdoor sportspeople we know you'll all have been thinking the same as us; "will we still be able to ride, run and roam our trails and wild places?". Whilst things are changing faster than Danny Hart's Champerey run the current guidance from the UK government, Mountain Rescue England and Wales, the British Mountaineering Council, British Cycling and the National Trust is that we CAN still head out into our hills, forests, trails and rivers as long as we are playing well within our CAPABILITIES. We'll be keeping a super close eye on this and will be updating our community constantly to make sure we all remain responsible with our actions. We also ask that anyone joining us from afar strictly follows the guidance and law being applied where they live!

Are you in? Ace! Click the link below to view more detailed plans and assets for our re-launch. If you’d like to join in, here are our #s and handles to get you started:

#1000positiveacts #stayconnected #selflessisolation #springtrailclean #DIYTrailClean #trasfreetrails
Trash Free Trails

It is important to remember your own country's guidelines when outside your home. If your government is suggesting 'social distancing' then please follow the rules and remain at least 2 meters away from other people (try not to visit your trails in large groups) and do not travel unless it is necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

@ashlemon: So glad the west shipped all it's manufacturing to Asia. Now, when we really need things like face shields or masks, instead of mass producing them in the needed quantities for fractions of a penny each, we can have each one hand sewn or made individually for several dollars apiece on a cnc machine usually reserved for prototyping products that will eventually be mass produced in Asia. GO USA!

Sorry, I guess I'm one of those people that sees the reality of the situation we as a country have put ourselves in over the past forty years, where the CEO of Specialized has to work his top secret Asian connections to get a hold of a product that is basically filter paper with two rubber bands stapled to it.

What are intended as feel good stories only highlight the problems in a country that has decimated it's manufacturing base in favor of financialization and globalization, and the economic shit hasn't even really hit the fan yet. Bring on the downvotes.

@smithcreek: Our government sold out to globalist interests years (decades, centuries?) ago. The process had to proceed slowly ("boiling the frog") or there would have been significant pushback. Remember Ross Perot and the giant sucking sound? Upvote.

My shop has had the sales equivalent of a mid-summer Saturday for the last 10 or so days. They sold nearly 120 bikes in six days alone. Add to that the service side which is currently at a 10 day backlog. The state just closed all non-essential businesses, but my shop owner is convinced he's essential, he also may believe that the lizard people are working with the Clintons to make this disease seem more sever than it is, but I do digress. I've decided to stay home, if it was just me, ok then, maybe if I just worked the shop and quarantined while off otherwise I could see accepting the risk. But with my wife and four-year old at home, I'd rather not be the vector for them. Especially my wife who has bad asthma.

We are rocking at our store! Sales are good and service is the big one. over 40 bikes the past two days. I am a mechanic in the back and stay busy any way all year; more so now. I just don't have customer interactions. We just stick to Texting and Email to communicate. My family would not make it with out pay for a few weeks or less. I am not going to hope the Gov't will send a BS check that would not pay much at all for a week or two at most even. Business and families are going to really suffer. We have strict protocols for the shop. Lock doors, set up appt time first, text or call when you arrive, we come out and get your bike, NO accessories like bottles on bikes. We spray down bikes with ISO and use gloves. 10 people limit in shop. No "looking" Appt for buying bikes. It's starting to work well. Scary times!!! I have a wife and 2 yrs old daughter to take care of, wife's job is closed as of TODAY!

@MrDiamondDave: fortunately my bikes shop job is a part-time gig and I can afford to go without. My full-time job is allowing me to telework, so we've just been sheltering in place.

If our shop owner would commit to taking serious steps to prevent employee exposure then maybe my attitude would be different, but since he's just going along business as usual, I can't be so cavalier. My friend who works there has indicated the same, but he is still going in against his better judgement. I told him to stay in the shop, wear gloves and wipe all the bikes with Clorox wipes before starting.

Stay healthy everyone!

At least in some areas, like in Ontario, Canada, bike repairs have been deemed an essential service. If all you do with bikes is play with them in the forest, it's easy to forget that a LOT more people use them as crucial methods of transportation.
  • 2 0
Dang! Im jealous, we got shut down just this monday and didnt sell anywhere near that when we were still open. We had more demand, but mostly tune-ups and repairs.

Our shop has been crazy busy as well, but we have reduced hours and limit the amount of people that can be in the shop at one time, we also get crazy with the disinfectant and lots of sterile gloves.
  • 2 1
Our shop has been super stressful the past couple of weeks. We have had record days for March and the workshop is as busy as mid summer. Although we are government exempt from closing, the business directors have decided to close until further notice which is a decision I really respect. We could have really cashed in on this, but staff come first on this occasion. It's a decision that really shocked me as they dont strike me as a staff first kind of business...

We've been steady throughout this... The boss gave us the option to work to stay at home.. We are letting the customer make the call.. If they want to stay in the car, we'll do the back and forth to handle them.. We've been using a lot of lysol and hand sanitizer... Ultimately, after seeing a lot of shop owners debating if staying open is a good idea, my thought is that if you feel that staying home is the best thing for you, that's what you should do..
  • 2 0
Same thing with my local shops. Yeah... they could be considered essential for commuters who legitimately need a bike to get to critical jobs. However I'd wager that 99% of the business that the bike shops are doing isn't that scenario. They're just staying open for the money. These are tough times and I sympathize with the situation businesses are facing. What should we do? I honestly don't know, but being honest with one another is a good starting point.

Heh, just last week I fired two women for applying for unemployment on company-owned computers. Just the way the cookie crumbles eh? Plus, if either of them decides to run their keyboards on Facebook we will go after them for defamation. All staff sign an appropriate use policy, all are subject to it, and the ramifications therein. Plus, we have binding non-competes so getting a job will be hard for the two.

One went to one of our NP's yesterday crying, oddly, she was the one we were going to get rid of anyway, just made it that much faster to have her violate signed company policy.

See, in business, no one ever claimed it is a democracy, simply, it is a dictatorship and those in charge get to make all decisions. I am certain that it is the same way at your employer (unless potentially you are union)

We'll see what companies take their Corporate Social Responsibillity seriously and which ones are just doing things for show.

Sorry, I'm a stickler for honestly and some of these bullshit positive spin stories just doesn't fly. Muck-off is not slowing production of lubricants in order to help hand sanitizer manufacturers source bottles. They are slowing production of lubricants because they don't have any orders because no one is riding. They are probably looking to sell off their inventory of bottles to pay their bills and try to make it through this largely self-inflicted economic disaster that's only going to get worse.

Great to see these companies rallying against this pandemic. A quick observation, on muc-offs anti bac however. Anti bacterial hand cleaners, are merely as effective a hand washing solution, as soap. To kill viruses, such as Covid-19, alcohol is the panacea. Stay home, stay safe and watch out for those, who may be struggling alone and are too proud to seek assistance.
  • 7 0
Antibacterial cleaners may not be any better at killing viruses or bacteria than normal soap, but at least they help create super bacteria resistant to anti-bacterials, so there's that.

I really do hope that these folks understand, facemasks in our facilities are disposable, as in, single-use, as in, toss it when you leave the room.....and cost about $0.01 each (due to the fact they are disposable).

These cloth masks are as effective as the many Asian masks that we see in recent history, useless. They simply are about as clean as a handkerchief, not at all. If anything, they collect more filth than not having one at all. Plus, how many folks have an autoclave at home to clean them.

We need to get some PSA's out there that when you take off your rubber gloves they are supposed to fall into the trash can, not your pocket. I really like it when I see folks in the store wipe their nose with their rubber gloves.....wow, just wow.

Certainly wouldn't be N95 masks. I appreciate their efforts though.
  • 11 14
@Brownsworthy: While I agree with the sentiment, I do not at all agree with a potentially false sense of security or protection. We, collectively would be better off NOT putting a less than optimal mask on our faces (certainly not one that is not clean), wash our hands, and continue on.

@RoadStain: not a single viable source advises to use masks. As to gloves, I tried to use gloves when using public transport in winter (those max 10 times a year that I do) to avoid other germs, like ones causing seasonal stomach flu. it makes very little sense for an untrained person. It's because it is extremely hard to remove the gloves without touching them with your finger tips (some remove gloves by putting them into their mouth - check!) then we put hands without gloves into our pockets hold keys with them, wallet, phone, and we'd still need to wash our hands directly after removing them. So for regular populace, gloves are also a one big waste. Healthcare should get them.

Also with this trend of X company helping doing Y product for healthcare. For the most part it probably works, but alcohol industry or petrochemicals shifting their production to disinfectants or gloves, they do it in an inefficient way, for more money and more importantly, they take resources that companies that tend to do stuff like that effectively and cheaply suddenly have nothing to work with. That's the case in Poland.

Big f*ck you to distilling industry, stick to making poison for people, ruining their health and family life, make more of that domestic violence stats increasing stuff. We don't need you to cause more mess, we need you to kick the bucket.
  • 2 0
Hospitals should look into ways of reducing usages of masks and gloves by running tubing and power extension to outside the rooms of patients. I've heard that some hospitals have all ventilator and other equipment in shared spaces outside of rooms so that techs can monitor and adjust without needing to swap gloves/masks for every room. Maybe it doesn't work in all cases, but perhaps there are some ways of improving the efficiency of systems while still providing care without waste.
  • 3 2
@PHeller: Um, not in the US. Unless a Trauma Center is in absolute triage mode that simply is not happening (that I have heard at any center).

The ONLY time would in situations such as earthquakes and 9/11 type events. Even hurricanes have better planning than that.

Most of the traffic at the ED's the past number of days is hypochondriacs with a sniffle wasting everyones time demanding a test. Fact is, if we check them for precancerous skin cells at the same time we could also 'save some lives'. Maybe they should also do PAP's, Mamograms and Prostate checks as well....imagine the lives we could save.
  • 2 0
@RoadStain: is there any reason why we can't do that? I mean if the problem is a shortage of masks and gloves, shouldn't doing thing to minimize those needs?

There is some discussion of this on Reddit's /r/nursing sub: www.reddit.com/r/nursing/comments/flhjjb/nurse_pro_tip_put_your_ivs_on_extension_lines_run

@PHeller: If a facility did, next week there would be commercials on TV's with the lawyers getting people to line up to sue for the "unusual" treatment that "could" have blah blah blah blah blah...and god forbid someone in walker trips...and on, and on and on. Did not say it was not a good idea, just that no facilities risk management team would allow it to happen. MOST of my job is risk management.

At my local hospital in the Rona rooms they wear a n95 then a surgical or home made mask over that since they have to reuse the n95s months on end. So the cheap masks do serve a purpose in keeping the n95 slightly less infected.

@platnum: So, the reality that we have THOUSANDS that we will use properly (as in, they are designed to be SINGLE USE) and our facility currently is well below 50% population due to allowing people (who are not COVID patients) to suffer at home waiting for procedures they should have received weeks ago makes me an ass?

I don't suppose you are aware that the masks are designed to be SINGLE-USE for a reason, right? Same with gloves. SINGLE USE. When you take off either, they are to go directly into the trash can. That is the proper way.

I did see that yesterday the USS Comfort was leaving the NYC area...seems they did not have the patient load to justify it being there. If I were to watch CNN or MSNBC one would think that people were falling off the gang plank trying to get in.

On another note, I also gave about half of a porterhouse steak to my dog yesterday. I was full....
  • 1 4
@iantmcg: "they have to reuse the n95s months on end" - that is a lie, or someone who happened to find an N95 a month ago (and does not work at a medical facility) just said what some delusional reporter wanted to hear. Period. Simply, that is a lie, I do not care what facility someone is working at - maybe if you are on Tanzania, not in the US. Just spreading lies.

And of course there’s conflicting news reports. Bias, we all suffer from it... wisdom is recognizing it.

Case in point, you’re perspective seems based on facts and observations from your experience and sources you trust. On the flip side, my wife hasn’t received a new N95 in two weeks. They’ve been ordered to reuse until new shipments are physically received. We’ve been having trouble sourcing masks, thanks to your President, in case you haven’t heard. Enjoy your surplus, every time you throw one away think of someone without a choice but to reuse theirs.

Wait, here’s a thought... since the virus is overblown and N95s aren’t actually effective, to you, why do even wear one?
  • 2 0
@RoadStain: give your n95's to the hospital then you f*cking a*shole. I imagine a dumbf*ck like you doesn't even know how to use one properly. In a medical setting you need to be fitted and tested on them.

@iantmcg: The hospitals here are all flush with them....we have more than we can shake a stick at. The only thing we do not have is a patient load to keep people working. We also have hundreds of suffering for days, waiting on procedures. It is almost like Canada and or Europe here waiting for care.

Who, do you suggest do the fitting? I mean, we throw so many away day to day. Heck, that may be a new full-time staff member.
