"Running 26 wheels which are actually way better."
- Lacondeguy
  • 21 3
Wish I could get that special rear end for the Yt and run 26" on it too.i wish they were in stock to buy..that preorder shit is stupid unless you can pick what components you want.haha
  • 10 0
That will bring the price right up to regular level. You can have the bike cheap but you'll need a custom rear end to be able to run the proper wheels. Now I see how they're making money to pay Gwin Smile .

Height and wheel size are totally appropriate to relate. 29er feels great to me and I believe it's in part due to being 6'3'', but 29er doesn't feel great to my 5'3'' friend. There's plenty more that goes into this, but I think height plays a major factor in what wheel size one should roll with. I fully intend this to recognize that some people could benefit from running 26'' wheels based on their discipline and height.

 @Pastafarion: 6ft1 and still rcoking 26.
I know someone with a capra who runs 26 out back and likes it much more than 27.5.
I suppose it depends on what you ride, for the majority 26 is going to be far more fun, physics of centraflugal force, angular momentum and inertia don't care if you are 5ft or 7ft. 29 is always going to carry small holes better if you hit them (as proven by Tracy Mosley).
On the end of the day... they are all bikes... have fun on whatever you ride 20, 24, 26, 700C, 275/650B, 28 or 29.

And just sit on the bike and scream - waaaaaah What a Lacondeguy!

@mtbakerpow: or just buy any two year old dh bike for bargain price...
  • 7 0
"Same setup for couple years just because it s too good " !!! Yeah Andreu thats it!! Smile
  • 8 0
Every bike company should make a 26 rear triangle option. Trek and YT already have one for their sponsored riders, why not just offer it for sale, even if it's preorder.
  • 6 2
@yerbikesux: Cams not that little and he runs his Tues with the same rear end. Smaller wheels are less stable but more manuverable. Right tool for the right job.

@vinay: they have various specs,I'd just like to be able to choose between the stuff they have already from all the different builds.i like options
  • 5 0
@thestraightline: ya,I'm still riding 26" for that reason.im not sponsored nor do I compete.so buying shit on sale makes sense to me
  • 4 0
@cmkneeland: I agree, and wheel companies and tire options need to be available and still progressing
  • 1 0
@betsie: ya,I'm down to ride whatever.im all about more options as long as I'm not missing any we already have/had
  • 1 0
@vinay: I've been looking into buying a Yt DH rig for about a year, every time I check the website the model I want is sold out,and gives a date for when it's due back in and then I check after that date just to see they have updated the website with a date further in the future..I've only seen two yt's in person where I ride locally and both had some negative stuff to say about the waiting and one had been damaged in transit.i hope Yt as a whole and opens a storefront in North America to show that they actually believe in our huge market.and do more tours so people can actually ride various models/specs before buying

I just don't get why he chooses to run a softer setup in these muddy conditions. Wouldn't it make more sense the other way around?
  • 3 0
@gostraight: more supple suspension= wheels spend more time on the ground=more grip
  • 2 0
 @piersgritten: thanks man!
  • 1 0
@mtbakerpow: YT wasn't about options initially. They just had one build for every frame. A build good enough to be competitive and still affordable for younger (talented) riders (hence the name) to actually get hold of. A "shut up and ride" approach. So despite being relatively small, this gave them the advantages of economies of scale (that is, getting discounts for buying large quantities of a single component). Then after a while they had an amazing build once a year which you could pre-order. Still clever because at least they wouldn't buy too many expensive components. In recent years they started doing several builds on the same frame and I think this way they lost some of the advantages mentioned above. And in turn they're getting the disadvantages that come with offering so many options. The forks may be out of stock for the base level build and the brakes may be out of stock for the top level build so you can't assemble neither of them. Of course offering options attracts other customers as well (like you) who may be a bit more picky about what's on their bike exactly, but this way they may get a bad name if it doesn't work out. A jumping right into such a huge market (the US) probably wasn't something they weren't ready for. This may be the reason some of these other German direct sales brands are a bit more cautious about entering the US market and probably once YT have their stuff sorted, they'll admit that too.

Personally I believe they're best off going back to their original, communist if you will, approach of having only a single build for every purpose. There are so many brands already offering several builds that that is already catered for. But so many people just need a bike and go out and ride, not arsed whether it has a Fox or a RS rear shock, there will still be a huge market for their original model.

@mtbakerpow: Just order it man.... i have one and its sick.... well worth the wait!!
  • 30 2
Much better than looking at pics of the bikes.

I liked Schley's body language when he describes why he designed the bike with short stays.

"Classic?" "Plastic"

Mud Party!

@Protour: don't smash em and they will work fine.
  • 8 0
@Protour: Shit I might have to get me a set. I imagine he is not too nice to those cranks and they are still kickin'
  • 4 0
@Protour: I have 4 years in my X9 crankset and they are fine, smashed on to the rocks 100 times or more and you can pedal it,ride it no problem...
  • 16 1
YT are gonna love him for saying 26" wheels are betterer...
  • 3 0
Even if everyone already loves this guy!
  • 10 0
 26" is the bestest Smile
  • 4 0
Makes no difference to whether you buy a YT or not - every other manufacturer is punting 650b now anyway, so buyers haven't got any good 26" choices to turn to.
  • 15 1
Love this sh$t!!! Ropo is so chill.
  • 5 1
 ya! what a rad dude!
  • 8 1
Haha "I start off with putting air in the tyres" lol

The girl with Richie Schley was so pretty i couldn`t focus myself at the bike .
  • 10 0
I didn't see Schley at all in that video, where was he?
  • 8 1
Always get a pretty girl in the pic with your bike, classic, and he did most definitely have a pretty girl in the Clio with the bike:P

The riders interviewed seem like a fun bunch of guys
  • 8 1
26" is the best and always will be for hooligan riding, which is how I ride. I'd get 29" if I was interested in xc racing, what was the point of 650b?
  • 9 0
26" for sideways airborne freeriding riding
26" for life
  • 9 1
That Hydraulic Brake for barspins blowed my mind!
  • 10 0
Isn't it just a gyro? But hydraulic instead of cable
  • 4 0
 ^ indeed
  • 3 0
It's been around for probably 8 years now, but I understand that if you don't ride dirt / slopestyle you haven't seen one before. Also not many people used to run them because they had many problems leaking back in the day (no idea if they solved it in the meanwhile?)
  • 1 0
@Mattin: I think most of the C3 Trek guys ran them for a few years but they all went back to a conventional gyro with a cable brake because the hyrdaulic gyro's we're difficult to keep bled and running perfect. Seems to be a good mix of riders riding with either a mechanical or a hydraulic gyro now.

Right, now I get it, David Hasselhoff, studly and popular in Germany, like RItchy. Totally an all time favourite comment .
  • 7 1
...and what does Schley do exactly? Just look good?
  • 19 0
This was cleared up in the comment section of his Mercedes rig write up.

"The David Hasselhof of mountain biking"

Still one of my all time favorite comments
  • 13 0
 @kubaner: that was so funny...I was there..haha........"

Schley is being a legend. One of the main guys behind freeride mountain biking. Don't think you can find many people more passionate and more active in the scene than him, and he has done so much for our sport.

Also he does well at being a presenter, for example at Rampage. The guy knows how it feels to be part of competitions like this and thereby knows what to tell and what to ask during the interviews. Many other presenters just ask cheesey questions, call tricks the wrong names or say weird things that aren't true (especially other presenters at Rampage).

Schley is a legend, does his job well at the moment and really deserves to still be around.
  • 2 0
he actually looks pretty fast in those nasty conditions in the just the tip vid...
  • 2 0
glad to hear and see some pro riders/legends still using 26 and getting the bike company's to make new backends/swing arms/linkages in 26 format that have been designed for 650b/27.5 geometry ,I think the bike company's are missing a trick there are loads of us that still ride 26 and for reasons ,stronger more compact wheels less likely to buckle/bend and 650b not that much quicker than 26 ,that I have felt maybe on dh track cupl of secs ,iv always thot it was like adults stabilizers lol

Ahh, the well-known Chaoyang ________. Everyone should have a fleet of 'em.
A good friend of mine once said something really smart.
'Just because it's free shit, doesn't mean it's not still SHIT'
Would you rather spend money on your equipment and have a chance of winning, or get your shit for free,
and be lucky to finish top-20?
  • 4 0
26" ain't dead!! Oh yeah. Still rockin 26" here too.
  • 2 0
Yeah what does he do to deserve the Mercedes rig? Laurels and looking good, I guess ...
