well i'm the same height as you and found that the 26 felt really long, owing to the 22.8" top tube. it's your choice... a black market riot would ride closer to your hardrock though with the lower bb.

for the sub is it just two sizes, 26 and 24?

Any distributors in the U.S. have a 24'' frame? I've only been able to find a 26'' frame

I'm looking at the NS Suburban I have 24" rims. Will these be alright on the NS Suburban 26 frame? I'm 6ft4" so could do with the extra length on the top tube.

Hey, sorry to bring up an old thread but I have a few questions. So I'm looking at a ns suburban and I really like it but it's a 26" frame with 26ers on it. I'm a small guy 5ft and I'm wondering how this bike will fit/work for me. I'm only 14 so I still plan on growing :p but until then will it be to hard to ride or will I still be able to throw it around?? I'm just getting into dj so I don't think I will be throwing huge tricks but I don't know how fast I could catch on.

Thank Big Grin

You will be able to learn tricks better/faster on a smaller frame, with 24"s. See if you kind find a 24"-specific bike. Like a Black Market Contraband 24", Union Street Molly Maguire 24", Tonic Fabrications Fall Guy 24", NS Capital 24", etc.

Actually, I have an ns suburban, and despite being 9 inches taller (-and 20 years older) than you, I have to let you in on 2 things,

1. The suburban (park, although this years sub has no park option) IS essentially a 24 specific bike. I've ran it with 26 s and 24s, and 26s BARELY fit. If they start to go wobbly (26 rims) you'll be rubbing the seat stays right away. That's slammed, of course. Get one, it's a little small for me but I love it, as I always ride street with my torso over the front wheel/bars... I always thought it would be a perfect pro level bike for a small young person with decent reach and power. Light frame as well.. get it and put 24" 36 spoke wheels on it and it's a monster... Totally durable with smooth geo.

2. The suburban park actually has 'suburban 24' stamped on the frame.... If that's no indication, I don't know what is.

Yeah, good point! I have only ridden the 2011 or 2012 Suburban Dirt.

The new Suburban has 14.8" listed as the chainstays. http://www.ns-bikes.com/suburban,1166,pl.htm Pretty damn short for 26" wheels. And it has 0.2 bb rise, rather than 0.75" or 1" bb drop like other DJ frames. So, 24"s on that will not feel gross like they would on an older P.bike or something.

This has some comparison between the Dirt and Park versions:

Well the one I'm looking at getting (used) is a 2013 Dj frame. Don't know I that makes a difference but just thought I'd let you know.

Well, yeah, it would be 22.5" top tube rather than 21.8". 22.5 is a long front end for someone your height.

This is what "actual" top tube refers to. The top tube measured from center of seat tube to center of head tube.

Would it drastically effect my riding tho. I mean it sounds quite small (less than an inch)?

Not really. But then again, with dirt jumpers, the differences between Small, Medium, and Large are not that much. Yet, people are still picky. It is noticeable after you've ridden different bikes. There's no exact definition, because it varies between companies and models, but, like with Black Market, and quite a few other brands, these were basically the numbers for DJ mtb 26"s:
Small 21.5" top tube
Medium 22"tt
Large 22.5"tt
XL 23"tt

It's kind of similar with 20" BMX. Everyone would consider 19" and 19.5" top tube to be Short. 20" or 20.5" is Medium and 21" or 21.5" is L or XL. 22"tt is considered XXL. (The numbers are bigger with mtb-DJ because of the more slanting top tube and needing room for bigger wheels).

You can make adjustments by which stem you run. Like a 35mm reach stem versus a 50mm stem. That will create more than half an inch of difference. (25.4mm = 1 inch)
