The basically the same as 16/44 or 25/9 gearing.Alot of the new frames made today,a 39 tooth sprocket will not clear the chainstay.
The best overall gearing I have found so far is 28/9.

I've always had rock hard gear ratios. I started with a Haro with 44- 12 gearing then went to an Mtb with 36 - 13. Now I run 30 - 9.
