I talked to one of the Specialized engineers who designed it at Sea Otter this year, he said that the 650b has always had 173mm travel. They marketed it as 165mm so as to not class it differently from other enduro bikes around the same travel.
Can the aluminum 2015 enduro manage a 170mm fork then? I am wondering Abt an 170mm lyric for it but the specialized manual says 160mm - I weigh 230lbs so I am wondering whether this would be a better setup

it can manage a 180 fork not sure if specialized recommends it though. I have run a 180 on my 2012 with zero issue. Usually only run it on park days though. Every day riding I run it lowered to 160mm.

Would like to see some confirmation of that. Certainly interesting if it's true.

This is what "fully pimped out"is? It's nearly stock, besides some blue bits and the rear shock
What are you on about?
He has clearly built it up from the frame as you can't buy that colour as a full bike.

The engineer I talked to said it wouldn't be an issue -- just slackens the HT a bit and evens out the travel.
I've thought about it as well, my Pike has the creaking CSU issue and I've been considering replacing it with a newer and stiffer Lyrik 170.
