Hello,
I was thinking about a future frame for myself, and was wondering if there are many steel hardtails for aggressive cross country or all mountain. I noticed the NS Society and the Surly Instigator (pictures below). Are there many more out there? Please post them up!

Thanks.

I wouldn't get either I would highly suggest that u get a jamis dragon. I was going to get a complete but they where any in stock the frame set is super nice and light. reynolds 825(or something like that) air hardened steel. Nice frame. I f Ihad the cash that would be the frame I would get. I don't really like Al any more I love to try steel.

Erm, neither of those are steel hardtails...

In case I didn't make it clear, I'm not really looking for advice on what frame to get (when I said "thinking of a future frame", I meant that I was curious to see what would be available if I ever switched from my current one, but not that am seeking to change anytime soon), rather I would like to see what steel hardtails exist for XC and AM.

Thanks!

The Jamis Dragon looks very nice.

Is Reynolds 853 generally considered a superior brand of chromoly for XC/AM frames?

I know for sure that both Brodie and Rocky Mountain make/made a steel XC/AM hardtail, but I'm not sure what avalibility would be like in France.

I really like deep cove's hardtail frames... the hummer is great if you can afford it... the stiffie is like a santa cruz chameleon in that you can put different lengths of fork on it... the hand job is a classic steel hard tail... but is fine for all mountain as all of the above are designed to be north shore friendly...

I ride an On-One Inbred frame, they are steel hardtails designed for ups and downs and singletrack etc.

I like the Jamis suggestion. Also check out offerings from Kona -The explosif frame if you can find one, or a unit and just buy the geared dropouts
Independant Fab
Serotta
Gunnar -this is one of the more affordable custom brands
Bianchi from 2002 or so -awesome!
A myriad of small frame builders make steel hardtails here in the states such as brew racing etc.

I personally ride on 02 Bianchi Grizzly and it is amazing. I will not let it go. The Denali from that year used the same frame. Smooth ride, nice geo (I have mine set up for all-mountain, not racing), and snappy acceleration.

Hope this gives you some ideas, even if some may be out of your price range.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Like I said, I really just wanted to get an idea of what is out there, and am not really planning on buying a frame any time soon. I like the idea of steel for XC/AM and was just thinking of what I could get when I decided it was time to switch from my alu hard tail. Thanks!
