The Honda RN01 DID have infinite gears in their earlier gearbox. It was replaced with the derailleur-in-a-box design after it proved to be more trouble than it was worth maintenance wise.
I'd like to see proof of this, honda had a full race team ready to maintain any part on the bike and a product what would make them a slightly bit faster/have an edge over the competition they would use, even if it required more work

It would be all right on a freeride rig to get you back to the top of a run. If they give it a few more gears and raitos it would be good.
if it was strong enougth for freeride it would be on every bottlerocket and turn into a trendwhore item lol. i take it you work for this chinamtb.com too? if so please keep me updated on the hammerschmidt and have you found out if it will be trigger or grip shift?

Will do, but don't even know if this is the HammerSchmidt, but hope it is. It would be pretty cool to have it on a hardtail for a two gear set up. I sometimes wish I had a bigger gear on the downhills when riding my single speed, could be just what I've been looking for (although it would prob be a pain in the arse to fit in my Banshees BMX BB)

haha i bet youll find a way to improvise, i expect form the term unlimited gears the device will be like the honda's system a page before this and will rely on a handlebar mounted grip shift so it may be nothing like the Schlumpf crank. anyway ill invest in it just so i can test it out and see if it suit's me.
