Drop off 4 lowering questions..

I have a set of 2006 marzocchi drop off 4 currently sitting at 150mm. The second hand bike they're on is way out of whack, I think it was designed for 100-120mm travel... Not 150mm.
I took the forks apart and added a 35mm spacer ( a steel tube that fit perfectly) in the spot where I pulled a worn out home made plastic spacer. There's no difference in fully extended length. It's in the left upper on the internal rod.
There's a single forum thread to show where it's placed and thats where I have it..
I know if i lower it by 35mm the spring will be under tension until I can buy I new one..
Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
