So my brother has been running pegs on the drive side of his BMX and afte a few weeks the hub will be freewheeling and then just go silent for half a minute then just return to the sound as if nothing had happened before. Is this due to the wheel being untrue or has grinding on the drive side with no hub guard caused the hub to drop out? Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

Does the driver still engage when it's gone silent? I clicking you hear is the pawls engaging inside the hub shell. If it's silent there is no engagement. Which means the hub is unreliable. Pull it apart and inspect it for damage and replace if it's messed up.
