I can't seem to get the rear suspension on the RA1 to feel right. It either feels harsh with a ton of chain slap or overly damped, any suggestions?

Currently running 30% sag.

How do you service the Giant hubs on the P-AM2 from the Reign 2? Non-drive side has a 19/20mm cone? My largest cone wrench is 17mm. And do I need a 12mm allen as well? I found this:
http://ridemonkey.bikemag.com/threads/how-to-get-open-this-formula-free-hub.269995/

As mentioned 2 pages back the hub looks like the Formula DHT-142 pictured here:

I removed the cassete and freehub with ease but don't have the proper tools to remove the shaft to service the bearings. Please help.

Why don't Giant sell the reign as a frameset as well as a complete bike?

I'm curious, how did you remove the freehub? I failed trying to.

I think I have it figured. Just need to get the extra tools (12mm allen, 20mm spanner). I'll report back once I pick them up.

I am not understanding your post. I do understand that the width of the bb shell is 92 mm. Are there particular cranks that have a long enough spindle to work? Sram cranks also have different q factors options ranging from q 168 to q 156

I am still lost.[/Quote

I got the Raceface Turbine cranks and they are great. The majority of manufacturers utilize BB 92. So finding cranks to replace your SLX won't be difficult.
I was thinking of getting the same cranks, can you tell me what BB you using and how good they are?

A 12mm allen and 19mm cone wrench is needed for the Giant hubs. Sealed bearings - gone are the days of easy/cheap home bearing packing. Now you need a bearing press and extractor tool. How often do hub bearings require replacement on average? Is it worth buying the tools to do it?

Cool thing is my LBS installed new bearings for free. Having a good LBS makes life easier.

removed. needed 12mm allen and 19mm cone wrench

Hub bearings last for agessssssss in my experience only replace them once on one of my bikes cause I managed to destroy the bearing in a botched hub rebuild. Certainly don't wear like pivot point ones do

Do you guys know if it's true that putting 2 full turns of preload on a coil spring will make it have a similar feel to a spring with a 50lb higher rate?

Does anyone have any 30mm stem recommendations? I'm keen to hear your experience/thoughts if you are using one - especially from the short folk who have opted for a medium Reign. Cheers!

The preload collar won't change the rte of the spring, only the amount of sag you have.

For example, you can run a slightly softer spring and more preload to achieve the same sag, but with a softer/plusher suspension action. Opposite can be said for a harder spring and less preload
