Spotted: Fox's Transfer Dropper Post - EWS Round 3, Ireland

Images of Fox's upcoming Transfer dropper post began to emerge last fall, and with several athletes running the new post at the Enduro World Series stop in Ireland this weekend it looks like the production version is on the way. Complete with a Kashima-coated stanchion, the post uses hydraulic internals and is cable activated via a svelte handlebar mounted remote. The shape and light action of the remote lever will be a welcome change over Fox's previous DOSS dropper post – that post was virtually indestructible, but the clunky lever shape was in need of improvement.

There's no word yet on pricing or travel options, but the stealth routed version that Cube's Greg Callaghan is running has 6" of infinitely adjustable travel and a 31.6mm diameter.

The Transfer's remote sits under the bar where front shifters used to reside, and uses a nicely shaped, dimpled paddle.

The fixed head of the cable slots into the base of the post, and the trimmed portion tucks into the underside of the remote.

The fixed end of the cable slides into the slotted activation arm, a design that should make removing the post for transport or service a simple, tool-free affair.

There's only one repeated letter in the word Transfer, which allows it to work pretty well as a post height indicator.

Remember kids, don't throw your dropper posts in the fire.

But more much than that, is the comments-- I honestly open up daily PB articles just to see what stupidity and crazy wit our community has posted for the day! Thank you everyone for absolute nuts crazy fun, I can almost count on a good laugh everyday!!!

I honestly think a kashima coated shovel would be a good idea, some of the mud around my area is so sticky the shovel is crying out for a Kasima coated shovel head (600$ price tag included obviously.)

Now if they'd kashima coat the cable and the inside of the liner, that would make sense. Now they need something else to provide enough friction for the rebound stroke. I don't want to see anyone of these rebound real hard.

In the beginning, they said something to the effect of "we didn't Kashima coat the post because it doesn't need to be coated from an engineering standpoint". People were like- WHO CARES!? GIVE ME GOLD BIKE PARTS!
  • 20 2
and the people were right! kashima seatpost & kashima stanchions .... good god that's gonna look awesome
  • 5 0
@captaintyingknots: wholly agree but what about next years forks which (some) will come with black stantions
  • 4 1
@sewer-rat: black stanchions will be for their lower end models, kashima will still continue.
  • 12 1
Now if only they could get all the Kashima to look the same. It kills my OCD when the fork stanchion is lighter than the shock (specifically the X2).
  • 1 0
I need this to match my Eagleeeeeeeee!

"There's only one repeated letter in the word Transfer, which allows it to work pretty well as a post height indicator."

You know what works pretty well as a seat height indicator? A damn ruler like a normal post...
  • 12 3
Or you could just let companies add little things, like hight markings, to their components that make it better for the consumer. Why bitch about it? Its not a new standard, it doesn't add weight, and it doesn't look bad either. Unorganized folks, like me, have to search around the garage for a tape measure and try to remember specific seat hight numbers. Its much easier to just remember a letter.
  • 3 2
@johannensc: Except that only works if your height is bang on a letter line. Most folk would probably not be. Meaning people then saying 'oh it should be somewhere between the a and n....no, not that far.....nope too far the other way....down a bit.....too far...where was it again? If only it had simple measuring lines of mm sizing, you can be a lot more exact than just using letters'.
  • 4 0
@mgolder: There are measuring marks between each letter. Look to be about 10mm apart.
  • 2 1
@garcmol: Exactly my point. A cm apart is hardly accurate is it.
  • 3 0
I really like having markers on my dropper. My seat used to go down all the time no matter how much I tightened the clamp. This makes it easy to check and doesn't involve tape or anything if I forget to bring my ruler on the trail.
  • 1 0
They did the same thing on the DOSS. Verdict: yea, those marks are too far apart. I was left wishing I had finer markings.
  • 2 0
 @johannensc:
My command post has the "ruler" built in.
  • 2 0
I don't adjust the height of my dropper manually...I use the lever... its pretty awesome.... Even ditched the quick release seat clamp...
  • 2 0
@thrasher2: I totally thought you were scolding people for not using a rule to measure haha, my bad. Ruler is built into mine too, it's rad. But really, any marker works to let you know if things have moved.
  • 1 1
This must be huge compared to my doss, that's twice the letters and I use every bit of the doss Unfortunately I'm not looking to put a tramp stamp on my bike that says "TRANS". I don't swing that way.. Guess I'll wait
  • 2 0
@npleshek: How does a dropper post affect ones super manliness enough to be bothered by the possibility of the word 'trans' appearing. In small letters. That basically nobody would see when riding anyway.
  • 13 1
 Does it come in metric?
  • 4 2
 26 ain't dead.
  • 2 0
@JesseE: What is dead may never die!
  • 1 0
 @winko: steel is real.
  • 13 3
It wouldn't be that great to have a small frame and having the letters T,R,A,N,S coming out of it
  • 7 3
It kills me that the new Fox is a "me too" model. The DOSS was the only 3 position post that worked perfectly. The middle position was the perfect height for 90% of technical riding; low enough to be out of the way but high enough to still pedal seated.
You always knew exactly where it was dropping to. Now it's a guess.
  • 3 0
Yes. And the DOSS is so damn reliable. In 16 months of riding in all kinds of dry, wet, dusty conditions and zero service, it still punches me in the taint like on day one.
  • 11 5
When Fox decides to move from the 50 shades of Kashima to one and only shade I will consider Fox products again.
  • 6 0
I hope it is as nice as the DOSS. That thing was the definition of reliable

Fox owns Easton/RaceFace. Easton/RaceFace licensed 9Point8's mech for their droppers. Wagering the Fox is the same, just with a gold cote of anno.
  • 6 0
 Not the case.
  • 3 5
Says in the article it's hyraualic, so no. Also means this is a no-go for me. mechanical or bust.
  • 3 0
@groghunter: "mechanical or bust' Those do seem to be the two options...
  • 4 0
Who else had to read through the letters to believe there were two matching ones? ... 'T' 'R' 'A' 'N' 'S' 'F' 'E' 'R'... Damn it! Right at the end!
  • 5 1
Why don't Kashima parts ever match?!? They always seem to be different shades....
  • 20 0
Kashima Coat is a proprietary hard anodizing processing that Miyaki Company of Japan has invented, lubricating molybdenum disulfide deposited via electrical induction into the billions of micro-pores on the surface of hard-anodized aluminum for better lubrication and less abrasion and wear. Natural, raw Kashima flows from a spring on land owned by Miyaki and has seasonal variations in hue and color.

They needed to bring out a Kashima dropper for all the nerds who need to match their fork & dropper sliders. That damn Kashima gold is beautiful, but very unique. Having a pike made coordinating a lot easier.
  • 2 1
So it took how many years for Fox to figure out that cable activated, 3 position seat posts that are controlled by a monstrosity of a remote were inferior to the reverb? And of course thee only thing they could think of to make up for lost time was to Kashima coat it and charge an extra $100 most likely? Jesus H
  • 1 0
Soooo.... is Fox still so arrogant as to tell us where our middle/trail saddle height is to be set or have they swallowed their pride and realized what every rider knows... that its a personal choice to be determined by each rider?

You don't need to tell me they did it so one lever can control their forks, shocks and posts but maybe someone knows why on earth you would want any of them linked together rather than being able to mange them separately.
  • 1 0
Er..., am I missing something or have they just ripped off a ks lev integra with a southpaw lever?! Even the actuation unit on the bottom of the post looks the same! Ah, sorry I missed the usp - it's Kashima coated and they've not used numbers to mark the height - they've used letters!! That's sold it, I must have one!!
  • 4 0
oh wow that is so good looking, kashima coat all the parts indeed!
  • 4 0
My DOSS is still going strong three years later. I've never serviced it.
