The Åre Video Challenge made a return this year during the annual Åre Bike Festival in Åre, Sweden, after a two year absence – the event that gave us Martin Söderström's epic
Team Douche video back in 2012. This year's contest was made up of five teams that had five days to shoot and edit their respective movies, a task that was made extra hard due to some really challenging weather conditions that shifted from rain storms, ice cold temperatures to sunny skies and dusty, blown out trails. On the other hand, the midnight sun at this time of year in northern Sweden makes it possible to ride and shoot in near daylight for 24 hours a day.
The movies were screened last night in front a psyched crowd of 750 people at the Holiday Club Arena. The winner was a no-brainer for the five-person jury, head judge Mattias Fredriksson, Åre Destination CEO Therese Sjölund, EWS racer Jaclyn Paaso, mountain bike journalist Tobias Liljeroth and filmmaker Kevin Landry. Team Whiteout took the win by a landslide with its epic storyline, creative editing and next level riding by Anton Thelander and Nicholi Rogatkin.
