2015 Devinci Wilson SL - Interbike 2014

Devinci

Devinci's World Cup team has been campaigning aboard the new 27.5'' wheeled Wilson all season, and we even first showed you a prototype version of the bike way back in February of this year, but the machine pictured here is a much closer version of what the final production bike will look like. What's still to change? Devinci is still working on dropping some grams from the back of the bike, despite the 2015 Wilson SL weighing a competitive 37lb with an aluminum front triangle and chain stays. The switch to 27.5'' wheels isn't the only news here, though, as the bike is entirely new from front to back, including a suspension re-design by Dave Weagle.

Devinci

The 2015 Wilson still employs Weagle's Split Pivot suspension and a similar basic layout to last year's bike, but there have been some changes aimed at lowering the bike's center of gravity and increasing frame rigidity. The first concern is addressed by mounting the shock on the down tube rather than the underside of the top tube, as well as going from the 10.5'' monster shock on the 2014 bike to a more standard 9.5'' eye-to-eye model for 2015. This equals less weight all around, as well as it sitting lower in the frame. You'll also notice that the shock is no longer connected directly to the burly Control Link that rotates around the bottom bracket, with a short extension now used between the two. This means that the opening in the frame doesn't have to be large enough for the shock to fit through, just the extension, which results in a stiffer front triangle. Rear wheel travel has also gone down slightly, from 216mm on last year's bike to 204mm on the new model.

Optical illusion but at first glance it looks like it has a 26" front wheel with 27.5" rear. Yes I fully realize the stupidity of such a bike...just sayin'

It's hard to take a good picture of a bike. Big wheels make it even harder
  • 5 1
That bike stand in the rear kicking the rear tire up and the rock blocking the front tire definitely give it that illusion.
  • 7 3
@kleinblake I wish I could give you 100 props because I 100% agree. Big-wheel bike geo is hideous.
  • 2 1
Swap the wheels though, and I'm not so sure mismatched sizes are a bad idea. While frames aren't designed for them per se, I think there'd be some benefit to a larger front wheel (27.5") and a lighter, stronger, wider 26" rear rim/tire combo. Anybody running this setup?
  • 2 1
one of the previous BOTDs on vital was a WLSN with 2.75 front and 26 rear
  • 25 9
Why, because they both have 2 wheels? WTF are you smoking?
  • 9 2
Looks like someone from Kona leaked blueprints haha
  • 7 3
i almost laughed out loud. funny 'cause it's true.
  • 5 2
He obviously smokin the good shit..

 Don't blame the micro-dots man!
  • 4 3
This was honestly my first thought as well. For some reason I'm not a big fan of kinked down tubes.
  • 1 0
at least its not a knolly
  • 14 3
Is it just me or does that sram guide brake look way too small for the bike
  • 10 1
Not too keen. At least the second hand price of the current shape should drop which means I may be able afford one cause I love the current frame.

To be honest Devinci had for the last years always the best looking paint job, but what have they done this year. It does´t look horrible but it is not as beautiful as last years. It´s just a paint job like on every other bike.

 Raw doggin it

A single high pivot bike. A axle path like a old Kona stab. But a very complicated floating brake/shock linkage.
We slam specialized but Devinci is cool? I don't get it.

 Quityurbitchin!!!
  • 4 2
It looks like it fell off the rack while driving and where the hell are the spinners!!!
  • 4 5
 i see lots of pivots
  • 7 1
i agree - that front triangle is not pretty.
  • 2 4
4 pivots plus a shock mount, seems pretty much the norm these days. Also, isn't the main pivot is around the BB, not the higher one?
  • 3 4
No, the main pivot is the higher one. Otherwise with a main pivot lower than the BB it would have a horrendous axle path and even worse front & rear suspension axle path balance than the new Specialized Demo.
  • 1 3
I think you are confusing the pivots I was asking about- one of the Devinci pivots is concentric around the BB and one is below that. My question refers to the concentric BB pivot (not the one below the BB) vs the pivot located on the "seat tube". There doesn't seem to be a definition of main pivot that people/brands use consistently.
  • 7 2
Wouldn't the main pivot just be the one that dictates axle path? Makes sense to me.
  • 2 5
The "main" pivot is the one that takes the most load under operation. It's usually wherever the shock mounts. Akin to A-arm suspension and 3 or 4 link in trucks/cars.
  • 2 1
Front triangle seems pretty nice compared to the rear end and shock position. Looks like theres no logic in design for the first sight.
  • 7 0
I know I'm asking for neg props, but I think the older one looked better...
  • 1 0
So pumped I got a 26" Wilson this year. I wonder if they will sell both models or discontinue the 26" version.
  • 8 2
the blazing whiteness of the wheel logo graphics ruins it. black that shit out. seriously.
  • 2 3
I'll have to respectfully disagree. Blacking out bikes and cars is getting old. Throw a white accented saddle, keep your chain clean and call it good. Besides, the Boxxer has all that white in it already.

37lbs with carbon rear end WTF...lol first world probs.

My full alloy 26", OK has X0 cranks is, 34lbs stock with 40 & DeeMaxs ,

 Threaded BB? YES!

Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a Devinci, and have you ever seen a sad person on a Devinci!
  • 4 0
On my buddies first ride on his Wilson he snapped his forearm in half. So yes, I have seen a dad person on a Devinci. He was smiling up until it happened though.
  • 6 0
So he was happy on the wilson.. He was unhappy when he stopped riding it. Don't see the issue here
  • 3 0
I was happy when I got back on it again! Love the bike!
  • 1 0
Hey, I'm currently out of action after breaking the metacarpals in my hand, but I was happy up until the crash, am happy still when I look at the bike and how it escaped the crash with no major damage, and will be happy when i start riding mine again!
  • 4 2
As a massive Wilson fan, I love the new look. If you look at the Devinci website, their gallery shots show an extra brace on the left side of the swingarm. It will be interesting to see which makes production. I think the aesthetic of this one, unbraced, is better.
Internal cable routing would have been nice. I'm really happy to see premium looking swingarm protectors on both sides now. I always thought it ridiculous that they could sell a Wilson with a velcro neoprene sock on there.
All sizes now with 100mm head tubes, is that right? That's bloody short!
  • 1 0
you pretty much just summed up everything i hate about the biking world right now. Sorry. I'll take function over form every day
  • 6 1
 SEATSTAY
  • 4 1
I don't like that rear wheel travel has gone from 216 - 204mm... One of the reasons I bought mine.
  • 4 0
im gunna have to sell cocaine to afford the thing
  • 4 0
Is that a normal bottom bracket? Nice!
  • 6 3
 oh my sweet bountiful jesus
  • 2 0
correct me if I am wrong but is the guide brake just a new DH higher volume lever with the XO trail caliper?
  • 11 1
yeah 420 millilitres of dot 69 fluid
  • 2 0
From an earlier article I believe the lever is more of a complete redesign than just a higher volume reservoir... but I could be wrong. The caliper does appear to be an XO trail caliper however.

We ride at Bootleg Canyon and the Devinci Wilson really shines in loose, rocky, steep terrain. If the carbon 2015 is a bit pricey for you, I have a 2014 Large Wilson XP for sale here: www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1612187 that may well fall within your budget. $2600

Check it out!
