Don't care that ultimately it's an ad...with content like that...I'll watch all day long!

Most every edit we see on Pinkbike is in some way an ad. And good for it! The money behind them produces awesome videos! Stoke.

Classic Riga black and white, love it.

Nice video! It had the suspense of a hollywood car chase from the 70's or something.
  • 2 1
I was thinking that too, or like the music in the story mode missions in COD

Nice DH tyre. They do roll slower than some of the competition. Very good up front. Love some black chilli up front for the wet winters. Kaiser or mud king. Still run others out back though. Shame you can't pick them up for great prices like you can the competition.

I just put der kaisers on my dh bike and they grip better than my high rollers but they are slow! What do you run on the rear in the dry?
  • 3 0
Put the high roller on the rear or a magic Mary. Magic can be run at the lowest pressure without getting a puncture but high roller has a better edge for cornering and better braking. Save your 2nd kaiser for the front.

 Ok thanks.

Well very discussible about the rolling speed, on my case rolls fast (98 km/h in the andes mountains) and helps a lot to accelerate fast. Maybe the Baron rolls bit hardly, but is a tire designed for soft wet and a bit of mud I understand gains grip scarifying a bit of rolling.
About the price... Well... You won't get best tires for cheap.

What the hell kind of trail are you riding where you're going 60 mph?!
  • 6 0
Someone needs to calibrate their cyclometer…
Still Schleying it!!
  • 1 1
Dunno man, my buddy went to Morzine and clocked 52mph on his old Orange. Said his brake discs never mind his pads only lasted one day! So there are plenty trails out there where high speeds can be hit, especially in the Alps.

So much wood, North shore terrain and black and white I thought it was the first collective film. Nice riding by Schley too. Great to see he still has the skills and as always knows some great trails. As for the product well they did just win Rampage.

My 2c... Conty Rubber Queeen (now Trail King), Black Chilli, is the best "enduro" tyre i've ever had. Fantastic grip in all the conditions, rear one lasted 1500km and 70k vertical meters, front one still in use after 2500km. Worth the money.
  • 1 0
Yes, my Rubber Queen/Trail King has lasted forever up front. Great front tire. I've deformed many in the back though.
  • 1 0
Just purchased a set of Trail Kings after having used mountain kings for a while, and the difference is massive! Trail kings are indeed brilliant!

 i want the details...

I feel the same way. I love watching edits but I would rather listen or read about how its designed or improved upon previous models. Until then Schwalbe can have my tire budget!

That is a very nice video. It really is, but I don't get the idea of the commercial. This rider, and probably most of us here would ride the trail on almost every trail tires or dowhill tires available. So what is the feature that the Kaiser offers to be better in any way? Some tires grip more in the corners other tires grip more while braking, but generally most tires with a fresh thread would do the job. I find the video idea like a presentation of the product and what it could be used to, but not really a convincing point to buy it before trying other tires. I ride dh tires and I don't think tires are the part where I should save weight. I like double cord and agressive thread on wide tire. This is what keeps me in contact with the ground, so there is no point in buying a posh suspension or brakes if the tires are skinny. Most tires grip very well in corners so when I search for a new tire, I focus on the middle part of the thread, to judge if it will rotate easily and brake efficiently. The sweet golden spot between the two is my preference and then the looks.

I've been running these for years on 26inch (since the Athys developed them and us locals tried some prototypes). I've currently got a harder compound 650b prototype Kaiser Projekt on the rear which is superb and rolls fast. Apparently there are two options for casings in 2015, one for DH and one for enduro, (one about 1350g and one under 1000g) dunno if there will be compound options too? I find that I destroy the black chillis on the rear, but love them on the front and actually think they are faster rolling than a minion 2 ply supertacky which was my old favourite.

Here is a brief article about the 650b version. Can't wait to get hold of some 2015 enduro 650b versions!

That moment when you realized you can identify most of the trails/rock faces as this is your backyard and you are thankful to live close to the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Big props to the builders for making it [one of] the best places on earth to ride bikes!

Awesome up front. I use them with a nevegal johnnyT. Works a charm. I don't have the impression they roll slower than high rollers. But they do corner better and are more predictible. Works a charm in dry and dusty as well.

I keep hearing about great wet traction of the Black Chili Compound of the Baron and Der Kaiser. After a day on slippery boulders at Whistler, I'm curious if anybody can compare Conti's Black Chili with Maxxis' 3c and Schwalbe Vertstar.
  • 2 0
They are all very similar really. I ride 3C, Supertacky, Vertstar and black chilli, depending on wet/loose/dry. I think the wear rate of the vertstar is the biggest disadvantage, I've had the black chilli on the front for ages without wear, but with similar grip. Supertacky/3C is somewhat similar in wear and grip to chilli.

I've been running a cut mud king in the back and a der kaiser proj. in the front for a year or so now. The Kaiser is great on everything except mud, where it fails to grip to any off camber due to the paddle style center knobs. The cut mud king is the best rear tire i've ever run, and it works in all riding conditions. Hey Continental, Two years ago I requested a pair of Baron 2.3 2ply black chili tires, the ones that were represented in your catalog. What I received was a pair of Apex casing baron 2.3 tires that rode fantastic, but blew out the sidewalls after 3 months of riding. Just this year, our local Conti rep came by with a tire that he said was going to be a game changer, the 2.4 Baron project apex casing. I am still waiting and hoping that you will release a 2.3 or 2.4 Baron 2ply black chili, to match up with your 2.4 2ply der kaiser.

Margus Riga. This is a spectacular film. Some very dynamic shots capturing the Shleyman riding to perfection. I dont know what camera you are using but it captures detail in grey scale beautifuly!

Here's an old one. I don't know how much the tire has changed since '12.

 great to see schley shredding

Sweet video, but I don't see any terrain in it that needs a tyre this meaty.
  • 1 0
does anyone know where the music comes from

should be for sale in December along with the new baron 2.4
  • 3 1
 Best tire ever!!
  • 1 0
Mint film but I wish Maxxis and Schwalbe made more videos.
  • 3 6
I had them on a Dh bike I bought new this year, they didn't last very long at all, after the first couple of rides they lost there edge. I had a rear flat one day and when I changed the tube I noticed the wire in the tyre had pierced through the inner tyre skin and shredded my tube. Never had that with a maxxis.
  • 2 0
Did you have the Der Kaiser project or regular Der Kaiser..The regular version lasted me for a season and a half on the rear tire but the projekt is almost spent after only 3 weekends.. The projekt tire is listed as a limited use tire..
  • 2 5
They were the Der Kaiser project.
Limited use??? So what they are saying is that I have to either only use my bike some times or buy other tyres to use and only use the Kaiser on birthdays, Christmas or bar mitzvahs ??
  • 8 2
No mate. Basically it's a race tyre. Super high grip but not made to last to long. Abit like your car tyre compared with an F1 tyre. Car tyre 20,000 ish miles. F1 tyre about 60 miles.

Trails looks bombastic! In Whistler land?
  • 1 0
Same comment and question from me!
  • 2 0
They are tubeless ready, just add Conti Sealant and it works perfect. That is what I run on all of bikes.
  • 1 0
Revo Sealant… works like a charm and no STANimals rolling around inside the tire when it dries out.

Low mileage tyre – a true competition product! “Handmade in Germany” World Cup tyres with reduced mileage!

Sold!

A bit grippy for a enduro style trail tire, isn't it?
  • 3 1
 Great video Richie!

Meaty tires on CrankBrother wheels no less.
  • 1 0
I trued up those wheels when I was riding with Schley a couple weeks ago. They look good but the dents were so bad I couldn't get them to point straight again - and Richie is as smooth as it gets.
  • 1 0
Great tire! Wish they had a tubeless option!
  • 1 0
Tire smire. Where is this trail? Does it have a name?
  • 1 0
Does anybody know the Trail / Trailname?

Looks like North Shore.
  • 3 4
Continental make nice feeling tyres, but they just don't last at all. They perish and crack only a few months into use!
  • 3 1
A mate of mine has a conti up front. Its been to the Alps twice (total of 4 weeks) and done a number of races. Its been on his bike for nearly 2 years now and just the other day I was commenting to him about how it still looks almost new. Its incredible. If yours are perishing after a few months then something is very wrong.
Sun or chemical damage maybe?
  • 3 1
I dunno, I've disfigured the sidewalls on 2 trail kings under pretty normal riding conditions in. My rear blew in a berm, creating a massive hop and the front decided to go as I started boosting a jump. Yeah, that sucked. You owe me a new helmet conti!
  • 1 1
I also shredded the sidewalls on trail kings, they turn into fuzzy rubber, then the cords blew leaving me with a wobbly tire, only a few months old with a good amount of tread left. Back to Maxxis for me, High Roller II's.
  • 1 0
 That was so Enduro.
  • 1 0
 What a gripping video!
  • 1 3
hummmmm, think Continental could change their catch phrase from Get the Grip to Get a Grip or something else
  • 2 3
 fascinating story
  • 1 2
 but does it wobble?? LOL

 Now E-bike compatible...
