Revelstoke 3 Day - Canada's Heli-Supported Enduro Adventure

Let's face it, few things in the world really compare to riding your bike and I'm sure some people will outline that in the comment section below. Now I couldn't think of any better way to spend three days of my life, racing my bike, on what I, and I'm sure many others will agree, are the best trails in the world. The community of Revelstoke is bustling hot-spot for adventure, so why not add the ultimate alpine, bike riding experience, to that list of must-dos!

Introducing Revelstoke 3-Day (R3D)! This is a three-day mountain bike enduro race, with way more metres descending than climbing, helicopter and truck shuttles, local beer and food, all wrapped up into what will likely be the best weekend of your summer. The event is centered around a ridiculously good-time, with the culminating task of three blind stages on the last day, accessed via helicopter. There's no pre-riding, no course release and definitely no whining. This a mountain bike event for the true mountain biker, one who enjoys really 'getting-out-there'.

- Experience a mixture of the best alpine, loamy and unique trails in the world, in a true mountain town!
- Be prepared to feel #TheRealStoke on a 3-day enduro adventure through the surrounding mountains.
- Super long stages, big-days, even bigger mountains - on raw, loamy, technical, singletrack. All while competing in the 1st, ever Helicopter supported mountain bike race in Canada!

This event wouldn't be possible without the support from Tourism Revelstoke, Arrow Helicopters, Aero Designs, Boost Systems, Glacier House Resort, Wandering Wheels, Valley Retreat Lodge and of course the Revelstoke Cycling Association.

Bring on #TheRealStoke

GIVING BACK

Let's chat about riding bikes. We're lucky that there are a very small group of people all over the world, building, managing, advocating, developing and working hard so that you can smile as you ride down that brown, wiggly worm of singletrack. I'm committed to making local communities better, and as such, for this event, I'll be donating back more than $8000 in trail revitalization/maintenance. Additionally, BC Enduro Series Inc. has partnered with local businesses, from the accommodation, the helicopters, to the first-aid. We've also partnered with Wandering Wheels, the local guiding company.

Get stoked to shuttle with your bike! No long lines or disassembling here! Thanks to Aero Designs and Arrow Helicopters for helping keep your bikes safe and ready to shred

Jason Rekve, President and General Manager of Aero Design states “this event is just another example of industries coming together to share a vision of creating outstanding possibilities for some amazing adventures while expanding opportunities for the industries themselves” and adds “ the Aero Design bike rack will add safe transport mitigating damage to the bikes while at the same time allowing the transit of the riders saving money and minimizing the impact on the environment”. Aero Design a proud supporter of this event and can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.

The Aero Design Bicycle Rack for the AS350 and AS355 is just such an investment. With Canadian certification now in place (and US and Europe pending), the installation allows the transport of three bikes per side and will quick release using the same mounting provisions as the cargo basket. This will allow operators to carry a full load of bikes (up to 6 total), a full load of passengers and gear on the same flight while providing the ability to swap between basket and bike rack in mere seconds. The rack will accept up to a 4" wide tire on a short frame bike with 26" tire to the current longest frame bike with a 29" tire and no modifications to the rack.

Canada s Helicopter Enduro Revelstoke Three-Day
Arrow Helicopters is based out of Revelstoke, they provide rescue operations for Parks Canada and have a team with more experience flying in mountainous terrain than you have knobs on your tires

SKILL NEEDED

• Riders should be solid black or double black riders. This is largely due to the remoteness of trails.

TERRAIN

• Day one will be one or two long stages, approximately 20 minutes of timed riding, with about 2-3hrs of transitioning - Think steep, loam, rocky!
• Day two will be the big day!
• x2 Shuttles, approximately 35kms of Riding with 1900m of elevation gain, on black and double black trails. Think deep dark woods, loam, roots and steep, steep chutes!
• Day three will be approximately 2100m of descending, with 100m of climbing, today is the heli! Think alpine, lots of alpine.

Images from the Revelstoke Osprey Canadian National Enduro presented by NOBL
Glacier House Resort knows how to get down; they also have camping, hotel rooms and cabins to rent!

APRES

• On day two there will be a massive apres at Glacier House Resort, attendance is mandatory as this is where you will receive your helicopter briefing. My suggestion would be that you get a room here, it's also the starting and finishing point for day two. Food and Beer will be provided.
• There will be cold, local micro-brew at the end of every day, so get a designated driver, and try and hang with the locals.
• There will be delicious, locally prepared food at the end of every day - there will be a food station for day two only.

You got my up-vote! All the Helicopters and All the Enduro's! GET TO THE CHOPPPA!!!!!
  • 5 1
 @bcenduroseries: boooooooo 18+
  • 5 0
ITS ONLY 900 CAD!!! That's absurdly cheap for a multi-day heli event... cause so many exist and stuff to compare it to. good lord I'm jealous.
  • 5 0
@scott-townes: * multi-day event with one heli drop.
  • 3 0
 @mi-bike: Eh still worth it.
  • 19 0
Properly sick! I really like the application process—for a race like this, it makes sense to vet all racers for their ability to complete the race safely. Requiring somewhat recent first aid cert is AWESOME.
  • 7 0
Thanks @PeterWojnar - it's always nice to know in an event like this, that everyone's got your back! #Bromance

Yeh, f*k the environment, lets all get our Trump on! More warming I say!

Quit your whining and get an e-bike then!!!!
  • 10 4
Yea because heli skiing doesn't exist In Revelstoke... Of course you fail to acknowledge the 8k donation to the trail system. Typical Lemming
  • 10 3
I am a big fan of Revy, but a huge part of why I left is this constant douchbaggery about worlds best everything. Half you clowns have probably never even rode Penticton let alone Austria, France Switzerland, Utah? etc...
Enjoy what you got and quit trying to sell everything.
  • 7 2
Definitely not true... This clown has been lucky enough to ride my bike all over the world, and a shit ton of places in BC, and Revelstoke is still my favourite place to come back to and shred.
  • 2 0
 @dickson12155: #Revelstoked to get #Revelpumped?
  • 5 0
We are so pumped to have you guys and gals in Revy for this one of a kind race experience!! Like Ted said, we wouldn't be able to hold great events like this without the support of our local bike club, the Revesltoke Cycling Association! Check out what they are up to this year and consider purchasing a membership for only $30 if you are planning to come and enjoy the incredible riding here in Revelstoke.

If the BCES/CNES are any indication of what Ted can organize for a measly $100 registration fee, $900 for this is gonna blow people's socks off! This event is a no brainer! Ted, if I wasn't still concerned about my ability to ride tech stuff by September, I'd be submitting an application immediately!
  • 1 0
 Yeow!!!! You modest singletrack slayer!!!
  • 5 1
 I have two questions.

1. Is this race more of the fun variety or of the hardcore i-will-kill-anyone-who-gets-in-my-way variety. I'd like to come race, but not RACE. You know? (I know my pinkbike radness score just decreased significantly).

2. It doesn't sound like this is possible to do as a group. I'd like to come to revy with 3-4 of my buds. Makes more sense to carpool and split accommodations, etc. Would individual applicants have to just hope their friends also get picked? Or is there a way to signup as a group?
  • 5 0
@gbeaks33; I imagine there will be those that want to RACE it, and those that want to experience an unreal adventure. We'll accommodate both. Day 1 is 1-2 stages, and will act as seeding for the rest of the days, so those 'hardcore' guys can go ahead. Same for the Heli Day!

As for groups, there's a question on the survey asking if you're travelling with a group, just drop the names of your group in there. Would be a great event for you and 'da boys', or 'da girls'. Same goes for the heli, we'll make sure you guys/gals all get together!
  • 1 0
@bcenduroseries: Cool thanks for the quick reply!
  • 18 11
Extra good for the environment too.
  • 31 3
@vicrider - I can almost guarantee you that 110 people or more went heliskiing 8-10 laps, today alone, out of Revelstoke! And that happens every single day of the winter. This race, 110 people, one bump, is nothing! Not to mention the trail work that goes back into the trails - $8000 donated back for a three day event with 110 people - that kind of kickback is almost unheard of! Great work Ted!

How the rich do Enduro #MmmNah'
  • 4 0
HOW is this only $900cdn?! Am I missing something? Trans Cascadia (which, don't get me wrong, sounds rad) costs $2200usd and I'm fairly sure no helicopters are involved.
  • 7 0
It's priced like this because I just wanted an excuse to shred, via helicopter!

Someone posted this earlier, with the exchange rate it's only $675.42 USD!!!!
  • 1 0
I'd like to get a better understanding of this as well - $675USD seems like an affordable multi-day race. stoked on this for sure
  • 1 0
@bcenduroseries: Is it only Pro or will there be a mix or categories ranging from top level experts --> Open ---> Pro?
  • 1 0
@nicolai12: Heyo, here's the categories, sorry for not putting them in the article!

Men, Women, Pro Men, Pro Women, 40+ Men
  • 1 0
@bcenduroseries: Perfect - lastly is there a cap on the # of riders per category and is preference given to early registrants? Thanks - will be in touch soon.
  • 2 0
Maybe because lodging isnt included, and its 2 meals included total, not 2-3 everyday....great deal!
  • 1 0
Maybe someone can clarify as I'm having difficulty understanding exactly what this means: "2x shuttles, approximately 35kms of riding with 1900m of elevation gain" for day 2. Does this mean uphill riding for that elevation gain or does it mean the shuttles are shuttling you for most of that 1.9km overall gain?
  • 3 0
 Good Question:

Day 2
Two shuttles on day two taking you up, up, up.
The total for that day is approximately 1900m of elevation gain. Like 1400-1600 for your legs, I can always add more if y'all want a bigger day!
The only other elevation gain you'll do is on Day 1

Day 3 doesn't have a lot of elevation, there is some for sure, it will be a big day regardless!
  • 4 0
This is surprisingly affordable. I can't believe something in the MTB industry earned that description.
  • 3 1
Just make sure when you get on the skid of the helo that you stand tall and put a fist in the air like the guy in the photo!

(I can see that the rotors are not turning, but still...)
  • 4 0
There will be free accommodation at Greg's house.
  • 4 0
with the profits he'll rake in from his up and coming event, everyones welcome at gregs! that is as long as he doesn't get attacked with a set of extendable poles.
  • 3 0
Was that really a 10 seconds video? Shoulda just made a free .gif
  • 2 0
Shoot I'd pay the registration fee just for the experience! Unfortunately, now is not the best time with a baby.
  • 3 0
Having worked with Ted, this is going to be top shelf.
  • 7 7
1000 bucks? No thanks. I'd rather ride my bike with a bunch of my dirtbag friends for a month in a new zone, country, province, state or territory. A waste of money, in my humble opinion.
  • 3 1
oh it's gonna cost you more than 1000$ since accommodation's and most of your meals aren't provided. If you live on the far east coast like I do than you can add another 1000$ for airfare there and back.
  • 2 1
How are you and your buds going to spend a month riding in a new country for less than $1000
  • 2 2
@WolfStoneD: Well. If ti was 3 friends we could blow way less then 3000 flying to Iceland from Canada with our bikes and camping. Or I could drive down to Moab and camp for a month and ride everyday by myself and it would cost less then 1000 bucks. It just seems like a complete waste of money. There are soooo many things you could do on a bike for 1000 bucks. I've no use for buying cool.
  • 3 0
@WolfStoneD: Flights are a little more now to Iceland then the last time I went. Regardless, I stand by my belief that this is buying cool and not genuine adventure.
  • 3 0
 @freakonomics:
You could round trip from Halifax to Iceland for $636 each. Which leaves you with 12/day for the month to spend on food, lodging and fuel to get to and from the biking.

To drive to Moab from Halifax is 4767km. At a conservative 10l/100km your looking at 470L of fuel. Rounded off to an average of $1/L you're into the trip for $470 each way. So you're up to $940 in fuel alone. Leaving you $2 a day for food, camping, fuel, bike parts, etc.

And in doing all that you still aren't being heli dropped at the top of a mountain.

We've priced out doing a heli in Revy with out the race and food and everything else and it was not far off what they are charging for a weekend package.

It's priced good. Yes it may not be for everyone. But everyone should heli drop once in their lifetime.
  • 1 1
@WolfStoneD: I actually live between Fernie and Halifax. We are splitting hairs here. Run all the numbers you want. I'm not here to get into an internet fight, you can find lots of people online to do that. It's still a waste of money, like I said in my opinion. Enough said. Buying cool and not genuine adventure.
  • 1 0
@WolfStoneD: You would still need to add a couple $ for the accommodation, food, bike parts, etc on your 1000$ race...

I will heli drop once in my life but in snowboard... Not with my bike, it doesn't make sense for me. lol

So fired up for this one Ted!!!

Maybe I missed it, but whats the podium looking like? Heavy away from event sponsors? Big checks? Champagne? High fives?
  • 1 0
Is entry a lottery system or first come? Looks fun!
  • 2 0
All riders must submit an application to this event, due to the remoteness, technical nature of these trails, and the expected level of Apres, riders must apply via an online application. No lottery system here! I'll take a gander at the applications and make sure people are stoked!
