bigquotesI met Sid years ago when we were both traveling around NZ, at that point we were basically both long haired hippies, living in our cars at night and hitting Queeny's dream track during the day. One of us races World Cups now...and one of us is writing this article, guess who is who? - K.Landry - Artbarn Film Director

Sid Slotegraaf
Sid is one of those guys. You know - the guys you want to hate because they are naturally so good at anything and everything. The guys that make 30 foot drops on trail bikes look easy - Sid is that guy. One of those guys that has a degree, yet works 40-50 hours a week banging nails so he can race World Cups. One of those guys that regularly clocks KOMs after work, in a town full of professional recreationalists who gun for those KOM's all day everyday.

Yup. Sid is THAT guy.

9point8
Nine Point Eight Inc. ( 9point8 ) was established by a group of riders who wanted more: more performance, more optimization more intelligent design. Which is quite serendipitous, as they also happen to be top design engineers in extremely technical (read: non-mountain bike) fields. Dedicated to excellence in design, and abhorrent of compromise, this group is set about designing, engineering, prototyping and testing (lots, and lots of testing) superior bicycle components. 9point8 is located in Ancaster, Ontario, and all of their products are designed, tested and assembled in Canada to the highest standards of quality.

Like Sid, 9point8 is one of those companies who with every project, naturally do better then their competitors. Case in point: the new Fall Line dropper post, which is out now! The Fall Line dropper has 150mm travel and offered in 30.9mm and 31.6mm diameters, with an intuitive thumb lever that can be mounted in many different orientations.

Available for purchase now from select dealers and direct online at www.9point8.ca

HOLY HUCK! doing that on a trail bike with a half shell? BALLS!!!!!!!
  • 23 2
Watched 6x. First time to verify, "there's no way he's on a single cro...."
  • 52 3
DUUUDE!! get a full face for huck's sake!
  • 15 3
the huck at 2.36 is definitely only possible with BALLS
  • 23 1
That tree almost got damaged by his face. No respect for the environment... :-)
  • 61 3
Nice to see a 6" bike using all its travel
  • 48 15
It's funny you say that though cause I see folk in vids on pink bike riding lovely smooth groomed trails on full DH rigs with full face helmets. When over here we would ride those trails on a 120mm hardtail with a half she'll helmet. Not saying we're awesome or anything but it's just different cultures and what you're used to.
  • 14 3
@HankBizzle Yea, I think that often too. Not all the trail features of course! but in many videos there are full DH bikes on trails we would consider a 'Trail Centre' and hit on hardtails (a bit slower though also lol).
  • 15 3
there are plenty of smooth dh trails that are very fun with a big bike.
  • 6 4
I'm not trying to argue that at all, each to their own. Equally there are plenty of trails that are horrible on a hardtail lol
  • 4 1
If he had a full face it wouldn't be trail riding!
  • 42 0
I'm riding the same bike yet unable to perform anywhere near that level - who do I contact to process my refund?
  • 2 1
kubaner- you're right, it'd be enduro at that point Wink That lost drop is insane. He came so close to sending it into that tree, wow.
  • 27 1
Amazing riding and filming. I have been ripping those trails recently....let me rephrase... I thought I was ripping those trails but apparently I must have skipped the day when they were teaching bike riding!
  • 2 0
It's hard to pedal threw the good stuff with a full face helmet and full suspension bike.
  • 3 0
Canadians always have all the fun! Outstanding riding, cinematography, location. Butter.
  • 3 1
imagine all the hours of filming ... he could've ridden instead
  • 5 4
I know what you mean. Over here hell would break lose if rocks and roots were removed and the trail was raked smooth. Might explain why the UK are so much better than the rest of the world at downhill racing.
  • 3 1
 lol
  • 2 0
 killing it sid.....that a boy
  • 1 0
@Chickenwithshovel: not even 6" 'cause I assume it's a Transition Scout. So not even 5"...
  • 94 0
Pinkbike, you guys are dropping some RAD videos in the last couple of days! Man that was good!
  • 11 9
Should've taken the first chunk of the vid out though. I kept wondering what the big deal was about this rider. The trails were beaut, but, yawn. . . Then he starts dropping off the rock faces. Wow. And that last huck? Are you kidding me.
  • 21 2
@rrolly It's called buildup.. Not to mention this is an advertisement for a dropper post.
  • 5 0
Haha yeah @rrolly I's thinkin' "best trail rider in Squamish? Based on what I'm seein' so far not too fvckin' likely" Then bruhddy sends that last hip hit & I's like "Ô.Ô"

Damn near killed a couple trees on it too. Bet he was puckered pretty tight when he rode that one out!!!
  • 56 1
I was like "Ok, it's just an other trail rider, he's good but there's many others like him" until that last drop... the man has skills and huge balls !
  • 6 1
Yeah. I was like, "I could do that" for the first little bit then it all went crazy. Respect.
  • 48 0
Sweet edit! The track is bang on, too!

I was at a DH race recently and overheard one of the big bikes state that "Trailbikes are for fags." At the time I was riding a trailbike, so I thought that the comment was directed at me. I told that guy he was kinda cute...he got real quiet. I took first place on that bike. Smile

If trailbikes are indeed for fags, then being gay never looked so damned cool.
  • 46 1
See what dropper post can do...
  • 26 0
Respect for sending a drop that size, on any bike. Beer
  • 21 0
They forgot to mention that you might want to hate Sid but once you meet him its impossible not to like him. Super humble and down to earth guy who works his ass off trying to make it.
  • 3 0
They also fail to mention that his girlfriend is the most beautiful and amazing girl ever! and loves to rip as well! Lucky man, has it all.
Guess he has even more reasons to be hated lol!
I'm sure he deserves all good things in his life though; cheers for the good livin'!

Value added-penthouse-in and out burger. Then later over to hoods in the woods for the massive air. Love it when a video shows a long link-up. Honesty, in video. People commented on the mellow start, but, that is how many squamton trails ride. Nice warm-up and uphill pedal to the fantastic descents. However, Sid does stuff on trails that I have ridden for years, that I never imagined.
  • 1 0
What is the really long rock slab at 2:00 on? Killer riding!
  • 1 0
Thanks for the tracklist. Will check it out next time I'm up in squamish. The gnar ooks a lot like the shore did before it got overbuilt.
  • 1 0
@gramboh That's 'In and Out Burger'.
  • 12 0
One of the best all round riders in Canada(trails, slope,DH he kills it at everything)

Currently at Fort William getting ready to race a World Cup. Hope he cracks the top 30 in Quali so we can see his run live.

That was sick, I want a trail bike now.
  • 6 1
 that can be arranged ...

flag Rubberelli (Jun 2, 2015 at 5:17) (Below Threshold)
What bike is he on? That doesn't look like a trail bike to me. Looks AM/Enduro, but I could be wrong and influenced by the size of some of the things he's riding.
  • 12 0
It is one of the new Transition machines. Probably a patrol I would think: www.transitionbikes.com/2015/Bikes_Patrol.cfm
  • 14 0
Ok, so that's how you're supposed to ride the Patrol...?

Seems like I need to do some minor adjustments to my riding...
  • 10 0
 The last part was sick!

Seeing these kind of videos leads me to think: is the RS Pike actually that good and rigid if they are abusing it like this, or is this RS marketing (sponsoring)?
  • 6 2
It is that good. I am riding my Canyon Strive in the Bike Park and everything is possible with it.
  • 4 3
Looking around the net - it seems so! But I do like reliability and this was my main concern with pikes. Hence the reason why I will wait for a year or so before jumping to something at the price of pikes and giving them some harsh treatment. In the meanwhile - X-fusion slant rl2 will be my partner for the next year or so.
  • 3 0
Pikes are out for two years now so I find them well tested. Any they are amazing for its price, I've been banging local park for three times in past month and performance is simply stellar! Would recommend them any day! Also these new Transitions seem to work really really well, should give those guys some credit as well!

flag ArvisgLV (Jun 2, 2015 at 5:13) (Below Threshold)
I have to admit that I have not ridden them. Nevertheless, I did have a chance to see them in person and to pump them a bit and I was not that impressed, as it didnt feel plush. Although, these were new, so I assume that they will "wear in". + I have to say that I am not a fan of the black stanchions, Kashima or gold slick ano is my bet.
  • 5 0
I put a Pike on my Reign 2 months ago. The first thing I noticed in the street was my brakes felt way more powerful. Next I noticed how curbs seemed to disappear. When I rode a trail I noticed how much better the bike steered and coped with off camber and ruts. Its that much more rigid than a 32mm fork.
  • 4 0
Well 32 vs 35mm is a big difference and you cannot compare it to a fox 32. The adequate comparison would be against an X-fusion Slant, fox 34 etc. Damper discussions is something else, this mainly depends on preference, although I can say that pre-2014 fox CTD dampers were quite crappy... All that I want to say is that I am super stoked to see the appliance and capabilities of Pike, where I hope that these forks will last.
  • 3 0
I have an XF Metric on an 8" park bike and a Pike on everything else. Pike is in all ways better. It's far more plush and I've never felt any issues with stiffness. The Metric (and other XF forks I've used) are plush initially but seem to have a very steep ramp up at the end stroke. I don't get this on the Pike. I do get to use full travel and never have a harsh bottom out though. Only one bonus to the Metric - those carbon lower guards are pretty dope for rowdy trails Wink
  • 3 0
I think the Pike is really as good as it gets, within it's category. It's the ultimate trail fork. Now, if they'd just update the Lyrik....
  • 3 0
Hey, just look at how the front wheel is glued to the ground at 1:16.
+ everything mentioned above and the fact that Sid is doing crazy things with it. I would say it's pretty capable.
  • 2 0
I think the MRP Stage could change a few peoples minds about the Pike being the undisputed king. This video shows it off pretty well! www.pinkbike.com/video/362607
  • 1 0
Thanks for sharing Jfeust! - The free market winning again (competition is good!)
  • 1 0
The only difference is - the price of Pike's has dropped signifficantly (at least in the EU), where you can grab a new set for around 550-600 EUR. That is a very good price, where the MRP cost a tad more here in EU (~800).

As Im not that HC on my enduro bike, then I Choose X-fusion slant with some gold slick ano. Half the price and should be the same in 95% of the conditions I ride. For the money left - bought a new fork for my DH sled - BOS. I must say - the plushest fork ever, totally recommended!
  • 9 0
I think the huge drop overshadowed the fact that this was a video to promote the 9point8 dropper. In recognition, that does seem like a sweet post, no doubt he wouldn't have made it without it.
  • 1 0
It's a bit longer drop than a Rockshox dropper post is it not? (sort of the standby for quality and function)
  • 9 1
Sid is the nicest and most humble rider you will ever meet. He puts all his aggression into his riding.....and he can ride any bike and any terrain including double back flips.
  • 9 0
that drop at the end felt like forever and steep as fcuk!
  • 5 0
Headed to Squamish for the first time this July. Got a week there and hoping to ride as much of the place as possible. Wouldn't mind catching a glimpse of Sid ripping down some trail. His "Up and down Squamish" video already had me so stoked
  • 3 0
Have fun, it's an amazing place. Do check out Pemby and Whistler as well.
  • 7 0
I've rolled all those slabs. Pent house huck is freaky. Hucking those slabs is insane! Nice to see some sqauamtem slab action.
  • 6 0
The PH drop is fully within reach. I ride it regularly. Enter slow-mo, big curb drop, mega on the brakes. So...not exactly the way Sid smashes it, but fully there. The run-out is the sketchy part....
  • 4 0
Yes the run out in nice and long but bloody steep.! There is a trail for every level of rider in Squish. Even tripple blacks. So to speak.
  • 2 0
Watched my mate hit that huck for the first time not long ago. As you say the huck was fine but as soon as he landed instead of slowing down as he was expecting he accelerated fast through the second roll that he had even of checked out. One of the scariest things I have seen but he did get away with it.... I posted a video of on trailforks
  • 8 1
So.... That's how one is to ride Squam trails.... I must have missed the memo
  • 8 0
All-mountain bike for sale. Slightly used.
  • 7 1
I cannot believe that hoods in the wood huck. There's no question he's the best rider in squam- semenuk moved
  • 4 0
Man alive. Great video. Great rider. So jealous of riders in Squamish...I spent a few days riding there and came out a much better rider than when I started. The place is amazing and pushes you to do more and get better.
  • 2 0
So is that a hydraulic post? Not that I hate the reverb but the price is insane and the lever kinda sucks. I'm fine with mine but my GF hates hers because she's not strong enough to press the lever with her thumbs. It would be nice to see an aftermarket hydraulic lever that is compatible with the reverb. If there is one let me know!
  • 3 0
Holy shit that was mind blowing. Some of the lines that look tame in the video are pretty fucking wild, and that huck at the end is absolutely unreal. Can't imagine doing that on a trail bike!
  • 5 0
that is a very bold title.
  • 2 0
Damn. I got home after a ride today, feeling like the king of the trails. What do I do? Hit pinkbike and the first thing I see is this. Needless to say, a harsh reality check. I tip my hat, sir!
  • 5 0
 yeow
  • 5 2
If I can jump 20 ft on a DOWNHILL bike, and he can do that on an ENDURO bike, imagine what he could do on a HARDTAIL!!! Razz
  • 4 0
He double flips. Seriously, at the te a games 2 or 3 years ago he did the best trick comp and almost won by double flipping his hard tail. I've met him a few times and had a couple beers with him and some others around a campfire at one of the downhill races in Ontario. Not only is he crazy good on a bike, but is one of the most chill and nice guys around.
  • 3 0
Great Video. 9 Point 8. If you make a dropper post with 175 mm of drop, I'll buy it.
  • 2 0
Should have entire bikes designed around a post like this! XC geometry to the top, DH geometry to the bottom.
  • 4 0
Holy Jesus. Hey, @artbarn, is that last drop on HITW??
  • 2 0
Thanks @artbarn. I've stood on that natural take off, and it's so unbelievably high. The wooden take off is no joke either, but that natural take off is another level...
  • 2 0
Well I was about to go about the talent pool in Squamish is pretty deep... But that last booter probably takes the cake. Sick edit.
  • 1 0
@ArtBarn Awesome video! I’d love to see this clip accompanied by the RAW audio however… Oh and cool product placement - good thing there was a mention of it in the intro or I would have never noticed.
  • 2 0
All seemed fairly great, fast and stylish, but normal trails and riding.. Until that last Huck.. FLIPPING HECK.
  • 1 0
does anyone know exactly where the trails he was riding are? ive got a trip to whistler soon, i would love to find out where these trails are!!
  • 4 0
 That was insane
  • 4 1
I'm speechless. Imagine what he can do on a DH bike?
  • 4 1
Holy hell, that is one of the best videos I have seen in a while!
  • 2 1
i figured that 100mm of dropper travel was plenty. Never knew I could go SO much bigger with an xtra 50mm. HOLY HUCK, Im sold!
  • 1 0
Damn!! Sid just rips it up, he is the best rider in Squamish and a super good guy to boot. Congratulations on an amazing edit.
  • 1 0
My question is: does 9point8's sweet looking lever work with a Reverb. If so, consider me sold.

9point8.ca/index.php/component/mijoshop/product/37-thumb-remote
  • 1 0
No, nothing else works with reverb since it is a hydraulic remote. All other droppers use brake cables for the remote.
  • 3 1
Yeah Sid! That got me psyched to ride. And Holy Huck!
  • 2 0
Great edit from an old Ont ripper.
  • 2 0
 That final drop, holy shit
  • 1 0
Yes and with that bike !
  • 3 1
That was some amazing riding. Great video ...
  • 2 1
I got down on one knee when he intentionally tore that bark off the tree...
  • 2 1
Haha got through pretty much the whole vid wondering why everyone was so impressed...then I got to the last huck!
  • 2 0
fuck DH I'll ride my trailbike from now on please
  • 2 0
I wonder what saddle he uses for those gigantic balls.
  • 1 0
I don't need no stinkin gloves.... I just punch through trees that get in my way!
  • 1 0
Makes me want to ride. Not that I'm near this good. LOL!
  • 1 0
Not much Hamilton Ontario bashing now eh Canada !!! rip it sid!!

  • 1 0
So nice I had to watch it twice.
  • 1 0
Has this been sped up at 1:18 just doesn't look natural
  • 1 0
Nope, that's just Sid being Sid.
  • 1 0
meh, he's a bit better than me i suppose.
  • 1 0
Where can i buy the same balls?... amazing drop!
