Maybe Fairclough DNF'd because he has the lamest nickname in the world! Brendog is terrible! He is a great rider but that nickname has to go!
  • 11 1
^Facepalm Facepalm please get out of here
  • 6 0
This is a contest about riding, not cool or uncool nicknames
  • 3 3
So bummed... that gap was going to be Legendary... Psyched to See Cam at the top, but sad to see Brendog DNF... SO SAD!!!! maybe he'll just send that gap for fun and get some footy cause I'm DYING to see where he was gonna go with that one.
  • 4 0
I know this isn't the easiest form of conversations here on PB, but how do you not see that an hour ago they posted Brendog is the #12 qualifier from today with a second run that got him in the show? lol
  • 1 0
Brendog crashed on the first drop on his first run. His second one was clean. And Kenny Smith crashed so hard.
  • 1 0
What happened to Semenuk?? I heard he had a pretty gnarly crash. Also where is Zinc?? Did he get heat stroke or something?!? I can't wait to watch the highlights!
  • 1 0
 aggys got a bummed leg.
  • 1 0
 @zyzz
Semenuk and Zink were pre-qualified.
  • 2 0
B Dawgs suicide line, before the carnage:
mobile.twitter.com/search/?q=%23rampage&s=hash

I tried to warn him with a cautionary tweet on twitter, but to no avail. Hes still healthy though. Even Bender wouldn't send that.
  • 26 2
Isn't there 2 runs? I think these are results after run 1 so maybe those guys can pull their 2nd run together?
  • 3 0
yup, Every rider gets another run at it.
  • 34 1
They should be posting unedited clips for runs or at least practice!
  • 4 1

  • 5 4
No hate on Tyler, he's a crazy good rider, but how is he prequalified and Cam isn't?
  • 7 2
I think Cam was injured or just not competing in 2010 and Tyler got something around 10th place in 2010, that's why he's prequalified and Cam not.
  • 2 1
cam sent the 60 and broke his bike and didnt have any replacement parts, im pretty sure. and tyler did quite well, cam crashed during the qualifiers.

i really like gee as a racer, but... dafuq is he riding rampage?! he is a DHer and has probably never flipped a bike in his life.......i mean, yes, he has balls, but surely another crazy rider who can actually trick could have been pre qualified instead of him.
  • 4 1
@Angryham So did Cedric, and we all know how that turned out. Smile
  • 3 0
Angryham hes ppre-qualified due to coming second at the previous rampage, you have to remember rampage isnt all about tricks its about line choice getting gnarly and going Big!! and Gee did that last time hopefully if he's riding again we'll see that again
  • 2 0
@Angryham if you have ever seen Gee ride rampage your mind would be blown, he rides it amazingly and makes the toughest lines so clean yeah sure some riders can do a few tricks that he can't but his run from 2010 was incredible.
  • 4 0
ok ok, i take it all back........
  • 4 0
Even though he was pre-qualified, Tyler was pissed on Twitter that other riders are using his lines he built. "If you didn't build it, don't ride it", or something to that effect. Rampage keeps getting more intense!
  • 3 0
@Angryman. You've been drinking too much Iron Bru. Gee finished 2nd at the last Rampage for a good reason. It's rampage not Crankworx.
  • 3 0
Also - Gee can actually backflip, it was in one of the Atherton project videos (on youtube somewhere at least!)
  • 2 0
I'm pretty sure Gee has been to several rampages in the past as well. Peaty was in 2002 for those who watched the video posted on here.
  • 1 0
he came 2nd at rampage last year. not every rider tricks at rampage! And not every rider at rampage rides the dh circuit.
  • 1 0
 Rampage isnt just about tricks
  • 1 0
OK OK so in the comments on the rider list article a ways back I started ripping on this bullshit about pre-qualified riders (which shouldn't even exist, ever, in any contest unless all are pre-qualified) & how a hack (by todays standards) like Bourdo & a punk like Pro get pre-qualified yet a f*cking FMB Jedi like C-Mac doesn't? First place qualifier. f*ckin' A!!!! Take it all the way Cam! You're the man, you deserve it.

Wouldn't mind seeing Pilgrim, Soder, Genon or Claw up top either.

not sure what the story is with genon but i know pilgrim ate shit then tweeted about hating rampage

How did Tyler McCaul pre-qualify but not Cam McCaul?
  • 1 2
 Typo maybe?
  • 2 0
 tyler did well last time
  • 9 0
Tyler has been competing all year and putting up pretty good results, I believe that's good enough to prequalify. Cam has been out all year until Crankworks.
  • 1 8
flag togood2die (Oct 5, 2012 at 13:04) (Below Threshold)
I'm guessing it has to do with the FRWS standings and how each rider has fared over this season, as @golden says...

But at any rate, both are in now.

Now how exactly does Gee pre-qualify when he's not a freerider?
He spends all FR season racing... and it can't really come from WC standings either...

Srsly, how they do that for the racers?
  • 3 0
Cam didn't ride in 2010, but Tyler did.
  • 17 0
Gee pre-qualified...most likely because he got 2nd place at the last rampage...

The great big red bull on his helmet might help too

Plus the racers get more respect cause they have way more overall skills.

Did Trek pay off the judges? Same way they helped pay lance who "allegedly" paid off the UCI to cover up his positive drug tests when he was racing for Trek and wining 7 tdf's? Lances words, not mine, and Trek still stands by him....

Where was Bender?
  • 22 0
@Protour, why is every single one of your comments ridiculous?
  • 1 0
um protour trek seems to keep their noses clean in mtb... in road I'd assume UCI would just chuck the result after a lil bit of a raise from lance and bruyneel not trek
  • 5 0
Pro tour, bender is a judge, but cool story bro
  • 1 0
 I just asked a question...
Other than Gee's finish last Rampage, how do the full-time racers get placed or invited?
  • 4 3
"other than Gees finish last time...", so placing second at the last rampage isn't enough in your eyes? Fairclough is going to attempt one of the gnarliest gaps at the entire event, you're thinking he doesn't belong their either?

  • 4 14
flag Protour (Oct 5, 2012 at 20:59) (Below Threshold)
What's ridiculous about my comment street walker? The FACT is that Trek has a long, storied, much-publicized dirty history of associating itself with dirty rider, going all the way back to 1998 or 99, I forget cause I'm drinking Ninkasi tonight. Anyways, Trek associates itself with dirty athletes, then sticks with them after they've been proven guilty (Lance, Hincapie, Kloden, etc....). How do we know they aren't a dirty corporation, the kind Mitt Romney would like to give a tax subsidy? Face it, they have a shit-ton of money, and questionable ethics based upon their own track record, paying off these judges is like firing BigBird, a drop in the buckt! You need to grow up and face up to the facts, this is a brutal world where money buys results, and things like the environment that sustains our existence suffer as a consequence of quick, easy profits. Get used to it, things are only gonna get worse...real quick! Enjoy the Rampage while the moment is decent.

As far as I am concerned ALL of Gwin's results the last two years are now in serious question. Is it any coincidence that as soon as he signed with Trek he started dominating, yet before that he was an average rider? And we all know outspoken Christians are the biggest hypocrites, that's a bright red flag right there; remember Tammy Fay and Jim Baker? How about "conservative Christian" George Bush, does that ring a bell?? Thousands killed in Iraq just so the military-industrial complex could take in easy billion$$$? Trek probably supplied Halliburton with military bikes. Get a clue, people!
  • 5 0
I don't know what your smoking protour, but either share or stop!!!
  • 1 0
Why is protour using an mtb website as an anti establishment eco platform? I dont think any of us care. He might want to read lance armstrongs mission statement too. Which i cant even be bothered to supply the link for as he can clearly google
  • 2 9
flag Protour (Oct 6, 2012 at 0:23) (Below Threshold)
Why not tell the truth, Mr. "Establishment"? Bad prop me, I don't care, diss me personally, I don't care, diss my bikes, my bro's, and my track I posted on my profile, I just don't care anymore....just don't try to debate me or I will blast you into the high heaven's like a Cam Zink backflip, only higher and harder! You will have a flat spot on your brain that is worse than any of the rims after Rampage, you don't know what you are dealing with here...like holding high grade explosives in one hand and a lit torch in the other, back off!

Gwin is probably clean,.so are the judges (esp. Bender), but Corporation Trek does have a questionable past, starting with their original pogo stick suspension design and continuing through the Lance years. And we still don't know what happened to Gwin at World's....
  • 1 0
So much hate. You sir are a poor representative for our sport.
  • 1 0
So basically you're saying that you're a psycho and you're probably on google earth right now trying to find out where we live so you can come get us? Why can't you just make an on topic comment and not go off on some tangent about stuff nobody really wants to hear about and is questionable as to whether or not it's true. I'm pretty sure there's a forum for guys just like you.

Dude,Gee is plenty badass and so is Brendan, I'm asking HOW Brendan got on the list. What was the justification? All the other riders are FRWS regulars (or rookies, my point is that they ride in the Series), and therefore they have a reason to be considered.

I'm so glad to see that he made the final quali list though!
  • 1 0
Are you children too lazy to use GOOGLE and simply find out the info yourself?

I found the info in eight seconds...

"Cam Zink and Brandon Semenuk, the 2010 and 2008 champions, will automatically be placed into the October 7th final. The top 12 finalists from 2010 are pre-qualified, excused from competing in today’s qualifying battle. Invites to the qualifier went out to the top 12 ranked riders from the FMB World Tour, as well as the top two finishers at the Chatel Mountain Style in France in July. "
  • 2 0
Protour, are you seriously thinking that trek are paying-off every single other top rider to not beat him? Are your trying to hint at drug use here? If you are then please name a drug that would in any way affect his performance in downhill. I'm also pretty sure that he crashed early in his run at worlds.
  • 1 0
'Get a clue, people!' I think protour has a raging clue! haha. Protour please go ride your bike, for all our sakes. Also do you feel satisfied with yourself at the end of the day? I bet you feel crap.
  • 3 8
flag Protour (Oct 6, 2012 at 15:36) (Below Threshold)
No, but I feel felt a little hung over this morning...couple too many beers. I'm satisfied at the end of the day, though I went a little overboard on Trek last night...but it's all ok, this is just an internet forum, we're all just talking bout bikes, not savin lives.

BC films: Testosterone boosting would absolutely increase performance in DH racing, not a doubt in my mind. But Gwin is clean, so is everybody else in DH, probably. The testing is pretty stringent. But MX & Supercross racing is another story, no testing and more money at stake, there are definitely people doping in that sport...probably testosterone, epo
, cortisone, amphetamines, etc...

Euan, where is that forum? Lol...still laughing about "anti-establishment eco platform" that was awesome, maybe the best summary of my writing I've ever heard. Thanks for the compliment badger!
  • 1 0
The AMA drug tests, there is no one doping in mx
  • 3 0
Protard? Shouldn't you be sitting about 8" deep on a tree stump somewhere & twirling? Racers have more skills than guys who have all the skills required to race AND the skills to be competitive in slopes & DJ's? Yeah I'd love to know the logic & reasoning behind that one.

Protard are you possibly related to CopperCab?
  • 3 0
I'm not sure wether to take that as a compliment off protour. It is a forum and we all have an opinion but I get the impression that protours passion or obsession for certain subjects is making him drift off topic. It also comes across as offensive to many on here. I'm sure his points would be interesting in the right environment but this is a post about rampage, not corparate dominance and the shady underworld of doping. My tip to protour would be to tone it down a bit. Think would you say what your about to say to your mum. If you don't people will just end up reporting you

ok callin it, Zink, Sorge and Semenok..with McCaul pulling close to a third.. either way. I have watched all the videos and wish I could have been there for all but to me it seems like the element of natural hits is kinda almost fadeing away. Not realy but I liked it when they where just hitting and dropping all the big natural drops . They had a kindaI don't give a fudge attitude and hucked everything. It would be kinda killer to see someone not hit anything wodden and just kill a line that could possibly kill you. I wish all those guys the best of luck and man If I was only 20 years younger (42) I Am , I would try . To finish and ride away is a victory to me. Back to the natural lines , Bearclaw I think still think is the best rider to do all those hits.. Pulling for the Claw and Vanderham though. now go ride your bikes and killkillkill

  • 4 5
Your probably right, but this is possibly the most subjectively judged event in all of sports. Who the hell knows what the criteria is? Biggest air. Most creative line, craziest bmx move, sickest, steepest line? Who knows! I guess that's part of what makes it interesting, the judges decisions are as unpredictable as the competitors lines.

Rampage is still the #1 event in MTB! Thank you Pinkbike!

  • 1 1
I don't know is it just bad luck. Fairclough seemed like a superb racer who was opressed by Hill when he was at Specialized and he talked about that as a reason why he cant get good results. And now he's at Scott and he is the main racer in the team and he's not better at all.
  • 1 0
Well he did have knee surgery at the end of last season, and moving teams and all sorts is going to take some getting used to. I feel he's only just coming back to form from all the commotion last year, be prepared for big things from Brendawg
  • 1 1
I don't think he will go anywhere now to be honest he has missed his chance, shame because I think he is awesome every time you see him on a bike he is smiling he does it for the love of it not the competition, I do think his knee has played a big part in it I think it was a wake up oh I can get really bloody hurt doing this. shame i hope he gets back soon and proves me wrong and smashes the shit out of it next year but with up and coming talent like Troy and Danny he is fudged now.
  • 1 0
I personally think he's going to be back up to top 10 at least, if not, a podium contender next year. But everyone has an opinion on it, none of us can really predict it
  • 1 0
I hope your right mate I really like the guy and think he is awesome, I said G would be no good this year on the GT look what he did bloody hell stormed it well impressed with him this year Smile so don't listen to me HAHAHA

A few of the riders sponsor names are wrong. They are wrong on red bull.com/rampage as well.

There is alot of good weed floating around...things get foggy after awhile.

choked to see Buehler not advance. His film segments show he's as good as anyone at this style of riding.

Please post video of Kenny's crash
  • 1 0
His crash was so gnarly. I was glad to see him walking around later in the day.

Yeeaah McCaul and Fairclough! I hope both of them will be on the podium on Sunday!
  • 1 0
So im guessing that since Pilgrims And Thomas Genons names arent on the list, they didnt qualify?? help?
  • 1 0
 what means Pre-qualified Riders?
  • 1 0
I think, there are the "protected" rider (as in wolrd cup), they had good results in the past on the Rampage, so there're already qualified for finals, they didn't run today.
  • 1 0
Either that or they had 'massively contributed to big mountain riding' i heared it someware a while ago
  • 2 0
 Really, then how come Bender isn't pre-quali ? :p
  • 4 4
 Cause he's old as fuck
  • 2 4
Probably becuase he's a sick rider but he's still a rookie compared to the guys that pre-qualify. Also, his standing is more in racing and not so much in "big mountain" riding.
  • 4 1
Bender doesn't compete anymore, he helped with the course design. He would stomp all over your tween ass Conor-Smith!
  • 1 0
Bender is one of the judges
  • 1 0
That comment wasn't about Bender. I was trying to reply to a comment about Fairclough not in pre-qualifiers
  • 1 0
This is Fairclough's first rampage right ? So no wonder why he isn't in prequali ! But he qualified for the finals ! I want to see his gap !!
  • 1 0
 Andreu Lacondeguy??????? :o :o
  • 3 0
 pre qualified
  • 1 0
Pierre E. Ferry on Specialized ???
  • 1 0
Misspelling Brendan's name on the qualifying sheet?
  • 5 4
Have you never smoked a shit ton of weed, then tired to post results on the internet? Plus some beers....it's alot more difficult than you might think, give these guys a break, this is a party and a competition.
  • 1 1
What would you know? Going by that comment, you obviously weren't invited to the 'party'.
  • 1 0

  • 1 1

  • 1 0
Hell yeah, so stoked Brendog got in!
  • 1 0
Wait, if it is just run 1, do the DNFs still have a chance?
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
So stoked for this mannn!! Cannot wait to see Berrecloths run!!
  • 1 0
 How do riders become pre-qualified?
  • 1 0
Either a high ranking in the fmb world tour or being infamous enough (in the world of big mountain riding).
  • 1 0
 And a redbull contract.
  • 1 0
I don't think a high ranking in the FMB world tour has anything to do with being pre qualified. Neither Soderstrom nor Genon were pre qualified so that kills that theory
  • 1 0
Do well at certain other events and you get a pre-qualified spot for the rampage. Its the same thing that happens with the world championships. The "nation" team members are pre-qualified for spots in the field, but there are open qualifiers at the event also going on before the finals, for racers who didn't make their national teams, but chose to attend the worlds anyway. When the worlds were held in canada (bromont or saint-anne), practically every ontario and quebec racer showed up who could afford to take the weekend off to race the qualifier and hopefully make it into the finals. I went to the 1992 Bromont Worlds as a spectator, a friend who was an expert-elite level quebec DH racer went to race and qualified for the finals, then a young and then mediocure british racer cut him off during practice runs saturday and he crashed which took him out of any sort of contention for sunday's final. I can't be sure, but I think the rider that did him in was Steve Peat.

You also see this in other sports... hell in Poker you can win a local tournament and get a qualifying pass to a major event someplace else, which covers your buy-in. You see that for the WPT events, and often hear the commentators mentioning how "such and such" made the final table after winning some $50 satellite event in his home town.
  • 1 0
Why is Brandon Semenuk pre-qualified?! He's hardly better placed than Soderstrom in FMB, and didn't even get a full run at JoyRide... this makes no sense to me. or is it just that he is #1 right now?
  • 5 0
You don't understand why Semenuk would have pre-qualified? Give your head a shake mate

Yeah, his comment is worse than the worst of the worst of my comments.
  • 1 1
James, he actally WON the Rampage 4 years back and was good last time, and he was consistently good and winning almost every fmb event eversince. If that does not makes him pre qualified what will?
  • 2 0
You mean 3 times world cup champion, 1 time world champion, 8 times national champion, with 17 world cup wins, mediocre Steve Peat!
Sorry, thought i better represent the brits Smile
( really hope wikis facts are accurate or i'll look very silly)
  • 1 0
RandyBadger, bear in mind this was back when Peaty would have been just starting out racing at a higher level, he wouldn't have any of those titles at that point... I assume... But Peaty is the man, end of story... He signed my shorts Wink
  • 1 0
I know manchicken, it was all mean in good humour. That doesn't always come across well on here
  • 1 1
@Randy...yes...if you look at his early career...he SUCKED.... he had little or no real success outside of the UK races until the millenium happened. Hell his first "teammate" Rob Werner when they were sponsored by Saracen didn't get the first world cup DH win (for a brit) until 1997. In any case, I said I "THINK" it was Steve Peat racing at Bromont in 1992. He's the right age to have made the senior men's event having been born in june 1974 and the worlds were in september. He's only since become so successful because of his experience from over 15 years as a professional bike racer, and the retirement of many of his more skilled peers during that time.
  • 1 0
As I said, all meant as lighthearted. He has been representing his country at thechamps for 20 years too so yes I can see how many of his peers have retired, and been replaced by equally capable riders. I know what you meant in you origional, just messin is all
