British 4X Series Round 3 - Redhill Extreme

Redhill Extreme, in Gloucestershire, is always a favourite on the British4x series. The fast, flowing, track always creates great racing and keeps the riders and spectators happy year after year. Coming off the back of the first two rounds of the 4X Pro Tour, In Winterberg and Fort William, the 44Racing Rockstar team were in attendance, represented in the Elite category by brothers; Jack & Connor Hudson.

The boys arrived to Gloucester on Saturday afternoon, greeted by heavy rain. The red clay dirt gets very slick with even a little moisture so the riders were slightly hesitant to get out on track, a trend that seemed apparent with all of the British 4X riders. With a short lull in rain showers riders were able to get out and see how badly the weather would affect the weekends racing. Only running a little slower than normal, and still with plenty of grip, it wasn’t long before the 44Racing pair were back up to normal pace and looking fly in their bright Thor race kit, provided by Freestylextreme.com.

The team arrived back to the track on Sunday morning, this time to the bright sunshine more associated with the laid back atmosphere of Redhill. Practice got underway with a great turn out of riders getting down on the now quickly drying track. Sadly, one of the Youth riders suffered a big crash nearing the end of practice meaning the start of racing was slightly delayed while he was cared for. 44Racing wish Alex Piper and the other injured riders our best wishes and a speedy recovery, we hope to see you back out on track soon!

Racing got underway with the qualification motos and the Pro Elite category being the last to run down. In only his second has in Elite, the every stylish Connor Hudson got his day off to a great start with a second place finish, close to the back wheel of the heat race winner. This confidence was carried on to the next moto with a win, his first in only a very short time in the Pro category. Getting passed on the last corner would see Chudson take another second place and transfer through to the quarter finals.

Coming back from last week’s 4X Pro Tour in Fort William Jack Hudson was hoping to carry his form and confidence through to this weekend’s British 4x. Jack started the days racing with a slightly disappointing third and fourth place finish, despite having led both races through the first half of the track. Any mistakes were fixed in his third heat race taking his Diamondback Assault to a comfortable win and on to the quarter finals alongside his younger brother.

With both of the teams Elite riders making it out of the motos, it would be on to the quarter finals and the knock out stage of the competition. With the top two riders going through this stage of the competition gets very close in such a stacked Elite field. The fourth final of the quarters would see both 44Racing Rockstar riders lining up alongside each, with Connor in gate two and Jack on the outside in gate four. The gate dropped with the two Hudsons and, Redhill local, James Whitby all side by side going into the first corner. The tight 180 degree berm saw a lot of contact with the two 44Racing brothers getting a little tangled and dropping back to third and fourth. Despite doing their best to chase down the leading pair, the riders would cross the line with Jack in third and Connor closely behind in fourth.

These finishing positions in the quarters would put Jack into ninth place and Connor in thirteenth overall on the day.
